Title: Cocktail Hour Post by Neferti on Apr 21st, 2015 at 3:20pm
Does anyone remember when we had Cocktail Parties?
Obviously it was a long time ago (Mid-Late 1970s). Ladies dressed up (long skirts, elegant), males came in at least a suit. We'd have cocktails and some nibbles. Lots of chatter, all very amusing. One cocktail meant you could still drive ... not that anybody worried about that. ;D Do you remember: 1. what Cocktails were around then? 2. what the nibbles were? |

Title: Re: Cocktail Hour Post by greggerypeccary on Apr 21st, 2015 at 4:17pm I remember the nibbles. A cheese cube on a toothpick, with a tiny red (or green) pickled onion. |

I remember devils on horseback. My mother made them all the time. I loved them! |

I used to have/attend dinner parties but we never really had/attended cocktail parties.
Devils on horseback were prunes weren't they? Yuck lol. Angels on horseback were oysters wrapped in bacon I think. Also yuck. ;D I do love the occasional cocktail though. There is a thread here somewhere with cocktail recipes. Frozen Margaritas by the jug. Yum. Maybe not in this weather though :) |

I guess that people don't entertain at home any more but we did a lot in the 70s when I was very young and first married.
Here is something nice to have with a drinkies. Crab Fritters with Avocado Dip 500g crab meat 2 cups fresh breadcrumbs 1/2 cup mayonnaise 2 spring onions, chopped 2 tablespoons fresh coriander (chopped) 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 eggs slightly beaten oil for shallow frying Avocado Dip 1 small ripe avocado 1 clove garlic, crushed 1/2 cup plain yoghurt 1/4 cup water Preheat oven to 180C. Combine crap meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, spring onions, coriander, lemon juice and eggs in a large bowl. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan. Drop tablespoons of mixture into pan. Cook over medium heat for around 2 minutes, or until golden. Turn and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from pan and drain on a paper towel. Keep cakes warm in oven. Repeat with remaining mixture. Add more oil to pan, as necessary. Avocado Dip Place avocado, garlic, yogurt and water in food processor. Process 10 seconds until smooth. Serve at room temperature. NB for Aussie. No Internet picture as this is a "secret" recipe. ;) |

Why? Since you are constantly LURKING in this thread, how about giving us some GENUINE INDIAN CURRY recipes, instead of criticizing everything everybody says? |

Lurk? How does one lurk on a Forum one is a Member of? I do read most the place and you can be sure my attention will be attracted if my name is mentioned. You want genuine Indian curry recipes? Do what you always do? Fake it with google. Here's a tip. "Add according to taste." |

Here's another tip "be nice to your wife". ;) Take your angst away from the Food arena. There is no need for you to lock horns here with me. I am just CONTRIBUTING to this site .... ACCEPT that I am just another member of society and get on with Life, Aussie. |
