Title: Cooking on a Yacht in Sydney Harbour
Post by Neferti on Apr 13th, 2015 at 6:55pm
Way back, we used to go sailing every weekend on the Sydney Harbour.

Here is one recipe I did in the Galley. ;)

Yes, Aussie.  The yacht had an oven in the galley.  It was a 42 ft Yawl, similar to this.  It also had a toilet and shower.  :D  It was moored at the Cruising Yacht Club (CYCA) Marina, Rushcutters Bay.

Don't worry about Aussie. What would he know?

His life entirely consists of driving cabs and driving people up the wall online.

Now...wanna hear something scary?

My neighbours have a yacht like that. And it's moored at the same place.

And we're going yachting soon.

And we're' cooking on board....they told me not to cook anything in advance.

Wouldn't it be funny .. if you knew them lol.

What do you think? Marine Stoves come in all types:

* LPG Gas
* Electric
* Diesel
* Alcohol
* Natural Gas
* Solid Fuel
* Kerosene

Read all about it and learn. ::)

I did the google before I asked.  What powered the oven you were referring to on that particular yacht?

Cooking on a yacht sound like fun making the whole trip very comfortable.

I would expect you would use it when anchored in a flat harbour.

Be a great way to eat fresh fish or another goodies you catch.

I don't care how it's powered......

What did you do that was really special on it beyond the 2 mentioned.

Sea Fever
John Masefield

      I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
      And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
      And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
      And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a gray dawn breaking.

      I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
      Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
      And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
      And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

      I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
      To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
      And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
      And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

With a yacht of that size, we didn't just putter around The Harbour. We regularly sailed up to Palm Beach and anchored there for the weekend.

The weather could get a little wild at times, I had to pull my weight (stuff the hairdo and fingernails).

Never actually caught any fresh fish to eat. A lot of alcohol was consumed.  Old Salts are like that. ;D

Lots of fun had by all. Those were the days!

Actually, when I moved to Canberra, a chap I met learned that I used to go sailing in Sydney.  He offered to take me out on Lake Burley Griffin on his "Gwen". ;D ;D A "Gwen" is a 12' Dinghy.  After I recovered from collapsing from laughing, I declined the offer.  ;D

Why.  You can't handle a trapeze?  (I used to race one as crew on the Burnett River, Bundaberg.)

Ferk off with the petty insults.  This is the Gwen 12 I was referring to...as was probably that bloke.

That thing you put up was a skiff.  You are talking shite, as usual.

I can't swim very well.  ;D  I have never had any intention of drowning myself on a "Gwen". Nor would I go up in a Hot air balloon.

Besides, I prefer LUXURY to exercise.

What is your Golf handicap, Aussie? Mine is pretty good too.  ;)

Best I got it to was 9 (might have squeezed an 8.)  It is no longer that.

That's good. My sister was a natural Golfer, she is still a Member of this Club. Played off 4 at one stage. Her son is also a golfer and turned professional way back.

I used to love Coquilles St Jacques but haven't made them for years.

Sydney harbour is awesome on a boat.  I used to tag along on a friend's massive catamaran for the Sydney to Manly races many moons ago.

I actually get really seasick on large boats so my kind of sailing is where you're part of the rig (windsurfing).

This may be my toy for next summer but not sure where I'd put the oven for the Coquilles St.-Jacques. :)

Take a beaded seat cover which has been used by an Indian taxi driver for at least 1 month, soak it in a tub of hot water over night then boil the liquid until it reduces to a thick paste.
This is the base of our award winning Butter Chicken.

I wish i had a yacht.     [....well, in a past life.    ;D  ]

Long, long time ago......

I did buy a Mirror dinghy, in a 'flat pack' kit.

I assembled it [in 5-6 weeks], and when it was built, i went sailing in it [for about 12 months].

It was really, really enjoyable, sailing that little dinghy.

It seems like it was in another life now.

When i was a young man, i always dreamed of owning [and sailing] a cruising yacht.

But it was only a dream.
