Title: Toyoyta Hybrid Vehicles as Taxis
Post by Redneck on Mar 12th, 2015 at 8:31am
Oi Aussie

I caught a cab home from the club a couple of weeks ago and it was one of the smaller Toyota Hybrids Prius?

Do you have any in your fleet and how do they compare in reliability and running costs as a taxi compared to the usual Holden/ Fords?

I thnk they'ld be very good.
Hence cabbies use them

A friend of mine got a camry a few years ago as his new company car to replace the commodore.
He was dubious it would do the job.

The camry was cheaper to buy, cheaper to run on fuel, cheaper to service. Never had a problem with it.
It won everywhere.

I was sceptical at first, but they have now proven to be tough, economical and reliable beasts of burden.  It is costly if the batteries go (and they do) but taking everything into account, it is no surprise that here on the Sunshine Coast, 100% of the non maxi, non multi fleet of 110 Cabs are now Toyota Hybrids, either Camry or Prius.

I've never been inside a Prius, so I don't know from personal experience but, from the outside, it looks like the roofline is a bit low for use as a taxi.  Is there enough headroom inside?

Plenty.  There is one driver here........he is at least close to seven foot tall....and at least 250+kg.  A very big fat bloke/giant.  While he has to reverse in and out of his Prius Cab, once in, he is fine.

I was thinking more of the headroom in the rear.

Oh......dunno, but I've never heard of any complaints.
