This money is to be used to pay down debt they created which they expect us and our grandchildren to repay for them. 4.      Politicians will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Politicians pay will rise by the lower of, either the CPI or 3%. 5.      Politicians lose their privileged health care system and participate in the same health care system as ordinary Australian people. I.e. Politicians either pay for private cover from their own funds or accept ordinary Medicare. 6.      Politicians must equally abide by all laws they impose on the Australian people. 7.      All contracts with past and present Politicians men/women are void effective 31/12/14. The Australian people did not agree to provide perks to Politicians, that burden was thrust upon them. Politicians devised all these contracts to benefit themselves. Serving in Parliament is an honour not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so our politicians should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people, then it will only take three or so days for most Australians to receive the message. Don't you think it's time? brilliant post .... agree 100%. Pollies should not receive any government benefits after they've left office. Most of them will easily secure lucrative positions anyway.

Dr Dale Kerwin.Griffith University.. didnt mention his own salary and WHO pays it...I wonder what super package he has attacked to his contract???....

its just a thought.,..Pollies are easy game.. and yes the gravy train needs derailing at all cost....but we do not have any power....and the pollies are not the HIGHEST PAID in the land either....check your local councils....

we have a huge burden of bureaucracy  in this country...

John Howard abolished the old "salary for life" pension scheme for new MPs as of the 2001 election. It only affects the MPs who were elected prior to then.

These days they're like the rest of us and have to rely on super.
Even the Gold Pass for travel was abolished for new MPs a couple of years ago.

Politicians are paid peanuts compared to some in the public service. University chancellors get around $1 million a year.

Curiously the author didn't mention what Dr Dale Kerwin School of Education MT Gravatt Campus salary is?  :-?

Strange that you would both choose academics to compare salaries with. Considering they get paid peanuts compared to those in the private business world it is a bit of an ideological own goal.

Ian Narev CEO of the Commonwealth Bank gets paid $7.8m a year. All for running a Bank with a 100 year old brand that thanks to a government guarantee has pretty much a license to print money.

Why would a university chancellor get paid twice as much as the PM? What the f*ck is so important in a university that it warrants twice as much as the top job? At least politicians can be voted out by the people. Chancellors don't.
