Labor won't win, nor should they.

I don't know how you can say that when it will take a 12% swing for Labour to win.  There will be a big swing towards Labour and that won't be an endorsement for Tony Abbott and his team, more the opposite.

it was always going to swing back rosie, ....

the trick is to do a good job to hold government for the second term...

a third term will be even harder but if the Liberals stay on course, they'll have the budget back in the black by then...

Hey Rosie. Don't worry about these rusted ons. You can tell when the LNP conga line are desperate, they make up the most foolish arguments.  If there is a significant swing against the LNP and esp if Newman loses his seat Abort will have a hard time surviving.

You poor delusional fool.No matter the result in qld. nobody is endorsing the monkey. If he'd fronted up there and faced qldeers and argued his case you would have some claim. He hid under a rock re qid. and his party will be suitably punished. Still a win, vastly reduced majority, newman gone, a huge endorsement for the man who did front, bill shorten.

Well, if Newman loses his seat and someone else takes over his job they may manage a third term.  I'm afraid the man is too arrogant for my liking but I don't know who I would put in his place, I'll have to have a think about that one.

I do have to laugh at times.  This forum is full of people who can't see the good in the other side.

I always wonder why that is. Maybe they are all like me.  I am a Conservative by birth as you might say.  My dad drilled it into me as a kid that I should never, under any circumstances, vote for Labour.  As a kid I didn't ask questions, he was my dad and what he said was law.  I'm afraid I have never been able to quite bring myself to go against him but I do see the good in the other side and I have come close once or twice.

Two of my favorite Australian politicians were Labour, one was Bob Hawke and the other was Don Dunston.

- to kick off the weekend !

Why do you think Toxic Tony was "banned" from campaigning in Queensland,
along side "No Can Do" Newman ?

ONE hated Liberal leader was quite ENOUGH !

The combined "fruit" of Abbott and Newman "captainships" is expected to be a loss of between 20 and thirty seats to Labor

That's weapons grade BullSht.

Abbott hasn't even been to Queensland during the entire campaign, by request of Newman. How can it be an endorsement of the Federal Coalition if Abbott's been told to stay away?

Queensland election 2015: Labor's Ashgrove candidate Kate Jones could re-write history

Fri 30 Jan 2015, 4:33pm

Labor candidate Kate Jones could re-write history on Saturday if she unseats Premier Campbell Newman in Ashgrove.

Never has a Queensland premier lost their seat and the party won power.

If recent polls are correct, Ms Jones has a comfortable eight percentage point lead over the Premier and is on track to regain the seat she held for two terms.

She has run an almost opposite campaign to Mr Newman under the banner "Team Kate".

It is low-key and grassroots compared to Mr Newman's strategy to focus on fiscal "reform" and pork-barrelling

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-01-30/labors-ashgrove-candidate--kate-jones-could-re-write-history/6057308

... so I'm calling a narrow win to the LNP - with Mr "No Can Do"  getting his well deserved
-  John Howard style - "tar and feathering"

I DON'T see the LNP parachuting him into ANOTHER safe seat with a by-election

He became their GREATEST liability

At this stage I'm sticking with my dad but you never know, Labour may come up with another leader like Bob and then I could change my mind.

I can't change my mind unless I have good reason to.

I've met a few politicians over the years and I must admit it's the ones with what I call charisma that I like the best.  It must be the female coming out in me.

At this stage neither Tony Abbott nor Bill Shorten have got what it takes to inspire me.

WTF  :-? . Not one of the smartest posts I've seen. But that is no surprise.

We are talking about a state parliament with a total of 87 seats and Labor only holding 7 of them. Of course when the LNP do worse than expected you can guarantee to hear the chorus of "It was fought on state issues"

Forgive me but just because you may recognise that your dad drummed into you to vote in the way he liked doesn't mean that you have escaped his dictates about how you vote and how you think about politics. It seems to me like your still making excuses for "coincidentally" voting the way he would approve.  Don't get me wrong. I don't vote because i don't believe that the system works to benefit the 99% anymore. It's just there to make us believe that we have a democracy. A win is a win is a win in politics, as I'm sure you would usually agree. It's by no means certain though, stranger things have happened though not often.

What interests me is whether we will have an unconstitutional Premier for a period and has a deal already been done - is the Pope a Catholic? - for some safe Lib to stand aside.

I'll have to start taking a serious look at some things around here.

If I'm not mistaken it was Anna Blight who started selling off the State assets.

I have, on occasion, done as you do and not voted at all, mainly because there wasn't a candidate I thought fit for the job but lets be honest that's not the way to fix things you believe are wrong.

By the way one of my first "boyfriends" after I left the UK ended up an Australian Labour politician - ended up leaving in disgrace.  He was a sweet boy at 17.

As you age, Grasshopper Rosie, you will learn that at the base of every politician is an arrogance.. it's just that in some it is well hidden for public consumption.  That arrogance is manifest in the very real idea they have that once elected they have some total power in our 'democracy' and some absolute 'mandate' to do as they wish even if it means breaking promises and launching policies never discussed before election, and then dictating those to the 'masses', which is why they can never be trusted.

Good idea - that is a serious watering down of the Grappler Party policy initiative of ONLY leasing public assets for a limited time, and subject to stringent requirements, including  a proven track record of NOT raising prices beyond CPI.

An interesting question.  A similar thing happened to John Howard when he lost his seat.  He remained the "leader" until the new government was sworn in.   My understanding is that Newman could remain as premier for a short period, but within that time could be parachuted into a safe seat with a byelection

I thought there were. Sure there's lots of name calling but there's also lots of exchanging of ideas. Don't tell me you haven't noticed. And whats it matter to you anyways. But if I was in Qld and tempted to vote it would be to get Newman out and at least delay the controlling elite's plan to steal your state owned assets for themselves.  See you should have worked that out for yourself but because your justifying voting the way your dad did 50 years ago (when the politics was different) your missing a lot of whats going on. Your all growd up now. Be yourself.

Well if you were bedding as labor bloke you would know it all, right! Your reasoning? Anna Blight started the privatisation band wagon so so its not the LNPs fault for continuing it and so Rosie will vote for them just like Daddy said she should.  BTW why are you looking for a leader to vote for, Sounds like you found one in your Dad.  You know i know this may be difficult for you to comprehend but there are some of us who think that's its time to stop looking for leaders and start having confidence in yourself. But then again we get back to your dad right.

He became their GREATEST liability

how is it 'rewriting history' to regain a marginal seat you had for 6 years previously in an environment with a large swing to your party?  the only 'history' of any relevance will be if Newman wins against the odds, not someone who shouldn't have even lost last time!

Queenslanders would all remember the embarrassing spectacle of Joh refusing to resign his commission as Premier after losing the election.

And elections don't actually change governments.  The Governor/governor-general does.  The Premier/PM resigns his commission and directs the G-G to invite the opposition leader to form a government which - if he can - is sworn into office.  Until then the previous govt continues.  MPs do not gain or lose their seat on the night but rather when parliament sits and/or the new govt is sworn in.

Howard remained an MP after the election until the Rudd govt was sworn un and not before.

a few percent hardly changes everything.  Clive has spent a fortune (of what it probably other peoples money if history is to be repeated), outspending the majors and still gets a few percent.  Kinda indicates what people think of him and his stupid candidates.

Soooo.....you want another go?  What % will it be?

Federal politics is very different to State politics.

Campbell Newman was seen as being an insensitive, uncaring, incompetent who wanted to destroy workers rights and was in the pocket of big business and big coal in particular…

Actually - I was agreeing with the Mechanic.  Normally fed and state are different - but in this case - I believe "2 peas in a pod" was the phrase used on telly many times tonight.

The only difference is that Newman is probably a far more competent person than Abbott is.  Sure - not saying a lot, but - don't let the door hit your arse on the way out Tony.

Katter still has two seats.  But that LNP prick Hopper (who left the LNP to join KAP) has lost Nanango. Was that what you were referring to?

So far there are 2 KAPs and one Independant.  They may well have the balance of power.
