Title: SURVIVAL SECRET: Family bogged for 10 days?
Post by ColdFact on Dec 23rd, 2014 at 7:43am
"CLEVER survival tactics by father Steven van Lonkhuyzen have emerged as the key to his family’s ultimate survival while trapped in the Australian outback for 10 days."

But it looks like ol' Stevo didn't carry a shovel in his "survival" kit.  A shovel (with 10 spare days to dig) and letting down the tyres (probably didn't have a compressor to re-air them either) would have quickly got him onto terra firma.

Last time I checked there was a 'made-road' from Brissie to Cairns.  So if these weekend cowboys really want to risk their families on off-roads -- perhaps a little research and not go with a 2-way with a "broken microphone".
Maybe try carrying a winch -- and like I said, a shovel, compressor etc.

He sounded a really decent sort of bloke when I heard him being interviewed.

Nice too see a dad wanting to take his two young sons camping!

I am sure he has learned from the experience.

It was a camping trip?  I didn't read that bit.  I suppose a tent would have been handy then -- could've chocked it under the wheels even.
