Just so you know, "bullshit" isn't in the swear filter. I think it should be added.

Neither is the M word that rhymes with "boron" but it gets bowdlerised to "nice person" whenever it appears.

This is a bullshit thread.

Swearing is a major part of what is the rich f-ckin' tapestry of the English language.

Swear bears unite and defeat the evil filter - the evil filter is for c-nts.

This thread reminds me of this card that was scanned and sent to me by someone in Canada a few years ago:

Feel free to use and distribute it.  :)

I've even printed and laminated one for my wallet.  8-)

(It sure would come in handy around here every day).  ;D

While we're on the subject, these words should also be censored/banned:

Leftie
Righty
Ignorant/ignorance
Dumb
Islam/muslim
Homosexual/homo/fag
Dyke/poof/lesbian
Christian/Catholic

Anyone care to add to the list of *potentially* offensive words? Should we all exchange the above listed to "nice person".?

I imagine it is the initials F U that is the problem ... the filter has tried its best to stop posters using the "f" word.  Aussies are ever inventive and have been able to avoid the tender eyes of posters who cringe at the sight of the "f" word.  Poor babies.  ::)

I think that whatever "language" you hear at the local pub should be allowed.  Wimmen (and gay blokes) who are too prissy for their shell pinks to hear such stuff should be banned from visiting .... or they could just ACCEPT the Aussie vernacular and turn a blind eye.

We do NOT have to swear, but it is what Aussies do ........

Anyone who doesn't like having their swear words, particularly those F & C words, converted into something less aggressive, then I suggest there is an easy remedy.

Don't use them!

There are also those using this & other forums who don't like it &/or who "shouldn't" be exposed to that sort of language, irrespective of what you may think!

So, just don't use the swear words!

The best Political Forum I was even on was one that had NO MODERATION, whatsoever.  You could say what you liked. FREE SPEECH.  We MODERATED ourselves.  IF someone wanted to swear, they did,  if the word was unacceptable, the rest of the Members said so. We were all grown ups.

Filtering swear words that we all learned as primary school children, for goodness sakes, just encourages people to create ways to avoid the "filter".

Remember, as children if we weren't allowed to do something, we found a way, anyhow.

It never ceases to amaze me that the 2 words that denote something that has given/gives me an extreme amount of pleasure, over a fair amount of my 70 years, is used in such a derogatory manner.

But then, the 'shock effect' quite often reinforces what one is trying to get across.

FCS you FI we have TPUW this nonsense!

At least change the bad ones to something reasonable!

F    U = Fornicate You

Arsehole = Rectum

Aussie = Prick!! LOL that was a joke...sorry Aussie!

Or Prick = Aussie  .... Sorry Aussie another joke!

etc.

Perhaps we should start a swear filter word replacement topic!

FCS you FI we have TPUW this nonsense!

At least change the bad ones to something reasonable!

F    U = Fornicate You

Arsehole = Rectum

Aussie = Prick!! LOL that was a joke...sorry Aussie!

Or Prick = Aussie  .... Sorry Aussie another joke!

etc.

Perhaps we should start a swear filter word replacement topic!

Go for it.  Relationships needs a jolt!

Don't use them!

There are also those using this & other forums who don't like it &/or who "shouldn't" be exposed to that sort of language, irrespective of what you may think!

So, just don't use the swear words!

It never ceases to amaze me that the 2 words that denote something that has given/gives me an extreme amount of pleasure, over a fair amount of my 70 years, is used in such a derogatory manner.

But then, the 'shock effect' quite often reinforces what one is trying to get across.

;)

Swearing is a sign of laziness and ignorance. If you remove the swear filter - then half the members will substitute expletives instead of English and the standards here will drop further.

As it is - too many people manipulate the filter.

I didn't say the statement was incorrect ... I said you can try and justify, what in my view amounts to prudish censorship, with whatever excuse you like ... in the end it's still prudish censorship.

Well John, if the statement is correct, then nothing else need be said, no "justification is required!

And, the statement is correct, "everything does have limits & there are both "Human & Natural Laws", that ensure those limits"!

That's why there are Human Laws, which for example restrict what can be "seen & heard" on Television & Radio & restriction what we can "say & do, by way of Defamation Laws & Laws of Nature which say we can not endlessly pump Oil out of the ground, nor endlessly grow the Global Population.

Yes, as I have said, everything has limits and so to what can and can not be said &/or done, on forums such as these, no matter if you or others may think to the contrary.

That does not mean there will not be disagreement on the level of those limits, clearly there often is.

Some may think Moderation goes too far on somethings, whilst others will say it doesn't go far enough, But that's life.

Cheers!

Fortunately you and a few others who love swearing and want it splattered all over this board are a minority. If the owner/administrator doesn't use profanities here, then out of respect for him and this forum, why wouldn't you make an effort to follow the rules?

If you think this is prudish censorship, you need to find other forums where swearing is acceptable. Try PA where there is only light moderation rather than trying to change the rules of Ozpolitic to suit a minority.

Because this isn't the owners home, the owner has set up a public forum, open to all members of the public, to have their say.

So you think people should only comment on a 'swear filter' thread if they agree with you? Maybe you should go to PA or start your own forum? That way you can run it according to how you like and only allow those who agree with you to post ?

How did John try and change the rules? Is there some kind of campaign? A petition perhaps?

Annie, are these Rules of any importance whatsoever?  Are they to be enforced at all, and if so, by whom?

Link.

If you're concerned about any breaches of the rules, feel free to PM me or another moderator or even the Big Kahuna himself.

That does not address my question.  Would you please re-read what I asked?

Bwahahahahahahahahah, Aussie you have no credibility banging on about rules when you break them with impunity in your fiefdom and not adhering to the ruwelzzz when you ban people.

Oh......Annie ~ what about attempts to get around the swear filter?  I know I have been guilty of doing that but I have tried recently not to.  This is the relevant freediver edict.

That was Perc, not FD ...  The only rules I've seen from FD are:

Swearing

'We have a swear word filter activated. If you would like to have specific words removed or added to the filter, please raise the issue on the feedback board'

Which by the way was the purpose of THIS thread

and didn't Perc resign as a mod?

Perce tried to resign, but his resignation was not accepted.

Sorry....my error Mr Smith, you are quite correct.  But...it is a pretty sure bet that PN would never have done that without the endorsement/blessing of freediver.

Yeas, PN did tell us he was not doing any moderating any more but I think he still has access to all the GMod buttons.  He can explain that as I am just speculating.

I didn't realise you had much choice, you can give him the title but if he refuses to act what do you do?

It's good news that Perceptions still has access to the buttons - in case of an emergency.

The swear filter was implemented years ago prior to the appointment of the current moderators.

Speaking of the swear filter, I find it in bad taste that "rn0r0n" and "<unt"  both become nice person.

They are very different words with very different meanings, so should be differentiated.

Don't know why "rn0r0n" is filtered in the first place.

Being a global mod does not come with an obligation to do anything.

Bugger

Nice person

Nice person?

Neither of those sound particularly offensive to me.

Oh, I see Honky. Maybe the "M' one you've got listed should be removed from the filter, and the C-bomb be replaced with "fool" or "scumbag" or the like.

This is a bullshit thread.

Swearing is a major part of what is the rich f-ckin' tapestry of the English language.

Swear bears unite and defeat the evil filter - the evil filter is for c-nts.

I don't really mind the censored forum. But having the main swear words out, but leaving the not so annoying words like "sh*t" in, should be where we draw the line. I'm all for a censor free forum, but I am okay with some censoring.
