Title: Australians Take Action
Post by australianstakeaction on Sep 25th, 2014 at 12:05pm
There comes a time when we have to face the fact that the people we elected into government have completely lost our trust, and if there is no trust left in our government then the government no longer represents the people of Australia. In such times, action by all of us is required.

Thankfully, the Australian Constitution provides us with a Governor General, to whom we can communicate our distrust and request for a new government to be elected.

We, the Australian people, can exercise our democratic rights in a civilized, peaceful and modern way to compel our Governor General to remove the Prime Minister.

Who are "Australians Take Action"?

Why do you need a copy of the letter to the GG?

What assurances do we have you aren't from ASIO and this isn't a means of identifying those who oppose the present Government and providing the Government with a nice easily accesses list of people to be apprehended and interned?   ;D ;D ;D ;D :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D

Take action?

No thanks. Leave Tony where he is.
I want to see how this all turns out.

In tears probably, but it's sure to be entertaining.

Sorry, mate, you're naive. "Democratic rights" are worth shite. because both sides (left and right) serve the same masters. They are just like Coke and Pepsi. They all agree with the major policies and they don't dare to interfere with the banks, the Reserve Bank, ASIO, ASIS etc. because those are all controlled by higher global powers... ;)

Thank you all for great replies.

The Governor General does have the power to dismiss the Prime Minister whenever he has a reason to do so, also he has the power to nominate a replacement Prime Minister and pretty much anything else he wishes to do. It is all in the constitution - section 70.

He needs a good reason to do so. And the reason is the massive amount of letters that he is going to receive. Without the action of individuals like us we will wait for the next election in impotent ramblings about how terrible the current government is, without actually lifting a finger and sending one simple letter.

Your move.

We've approached knowledgeable people in the academia that do know about the constitution and what we propose is one of the very few legal and peaceful ways to correct mistakes of an election in Australia. In fact our constitution, by providing the Governor General, ironically, makes the change possible.

We are not here to debate the fact that the constitution provides with a change lever, this is already known.

We are just letting people know, and not only on this forum, that there is a tool available to be used should they wish to use it (as opposed of sending dead-end messages around the internet or standing on the streets obstructing traffic) and we are here ready to administer and coordinate.

Section 70: Certain powers of Governors to vest in Governor-General

In respect of matters which, under this Constitution, pass to the Executive Government of the Commonwealth, all powers and functions which at the establishment of the Commonwealth are vested in the Governor of a Colony, or in the Governor of a Colony with the advice of his Executive Council, or in any authority of a Colony, shall vest in the Governor‑General, or in the Governor‑General in Council, or in the authority exercising similar powers under the Commonwealth, as the case requires.

I very seriously doubt that.  I am calling it a bald-faced lie.  NAME YOUR SOURCES.

PS the constitution doesn't even reference the Prime Minister, only Executive Council.

I have an image of Peter Cosgrove arriving at Parl-e-a-ment and uttering the immortal words:-  "Methinks the birds have flown!"

You should be writing a book that will open the eyes of the Australian public and educate them through the media of fiction :-  The Australian Civil War (a companion volume to The Never-ending Civil War Between Government and People, Grappler University Press)...

The governor-general operates on the advice of the prime minister and only him. His reserve powers are well codified and he cannot order a new election just because he wants to or even it a whole lot of people do.

it is the historical singular exception and is why it was called a constitutional crisis.  the GG had to deal with an unprecedented situation, not a petition from loser whiners who don't like Abbott.

incorrect.  the GG does not have to power to sack a govt.  but anyhow, the entire thread is about the ludicrous proposition in the OP that he has 'secret knowledge' that some kind of petition can get a GG to call a new election. even in 1975, the GG didn't call a new election. Fraser did.

Look up "reserve powers" of the GG.   The GG can and has sacked a government using them.   While legal, it was not the correct moral choice and as we now know, Kerr was unduly influenced by Barwick and Fraser, which ran counter to the word of the Constitution.   Kerr would have been better off accepting Gough's advice, ordering a half-Senate election and Gough then holding a joint sitting of the House and Senate to force through the Supply bill.

don't replay 40yo events.  the OP states that the GG can sack an existing govt on no more than the basis of a petition.  he cannot. That is the issue

No, but Whitlam, if he'd had his wits about him would have sacked Kerr first.  The GG and the PM both have the power to sack the other, under our Constitution.

incorrect.  the GG does not have to power to sack a govt.  but anyhow, the entire thread is about the ludicrous proposition in the OP that he has 'secret knowledge' that some kind of petition can get a GG to call a new election. even in 1975, the GG didn't call a new election. Fraser did.

Look up "reserve powers" of the GG.   The GG can and has sacked a government using them.   While legal, it was not the correct moral choice and as we now know, Kerr was unduly influenced by Barwick and Fraser, which ran counter to the word of the Constitution.   Kerr would have been better off accepting Gough's advice, ordering a half-Senate election and Gough then holding a joint sitting of the House and Senate to force through the Supply bill.

a PM cannot simply order a half-senate election and then hold a joint sitting.  if that were possible, don't you think Abbott would do exactly that?  Don't you think most PMs would do that when blocked by the senate?
