Im calling bs on the "only 74 mill " claim. Its in the Indian govt interest to claim a low price tag thereby avoiding some of the criticism levelled by people who cant understand that a country which cant provide its own citizens with  basic amenities like toilets and which lets a good portion of its people starve in the streets because of cultural racism is spending hundreds of millions on sending a rocket to Mars.

you forgot that wages in India are a fraction of what they are in the US even for highly skilled people. The mere fact that India being only one of a few countries has built it's own cryogenic rocket engines on their own because the yanks and russians wouldn't supply them with the technology makes this story even more plausible. Not many countries can build rocket engines.

You have to face the facts that India is going to whip our arse one day. They will send all of the taxi drivers here whilst keeping all of the talented people for themselves because the penny will finally drop that even if you have qualifications you will most likely end up a taxi driver in Australia :(

We have a large proportion of the world's Thorium but how much do we spend on research?

Thorium reactors can't melt down.
It would be a safe form of power generation.

heard all of the same outcries during the american space missions in the 50's and 60's but look how far the US has advanced because of it. It has created a massive technological industry and prosperity from it.

and look at our own heritage as a colony of convicts and still are if you ask me. Australia is full of crooks and con men.

Yes, they are far ahead of us, since they built the space launch facility in 1969, that of course is the bit you and nails seem to forget. For Australia to launch our own space or orbital flights, we'd need to build a launch centre which would cost BILLIONS of dollars, and take years to do.

It creates prosperity for their country in terms of new industries spawning from technological advancements. The initial investment is returned back to the people many times over.

But he would use archaic hand tools, take 6 weeks to do a 1 hour job and bring his mates around later to pack rape your missus. i dont get your envy of these 3rd world countries. they are sh!tholes. theres a reason why they all want to come to australia.

Having a launch centre doesn't make us a 'high tech' country. The fact that lots of different countries get Australia to design and build  satellites is what makes us 'high tech'.

It's 4 to 5 billion a year of uncollected tax so that the light shoe brigade can write of interest payments and maintenance on their property collections against the income from their day job. You can spin it how much you like but as far as I am concerned not collecting tax is giving that money away to people who don't deserve it.
