MONTHS after Kevin Rudd was deposed as prime minister, and in the wake of Labor’s disastrous 2010 election campaign, he wrote a blistering assessment of Julia Gillard, arguing that voters saw her as a “backstabber” lacking legitimacy who had led the government to near annihilation.

Mr Rudd described his toppling in June 2010 as a “Shakes­pearean” plot-line riddled with falsehoods about his government’s performance, Labor’s re-election chances and the notion the coup was in the “national ­interest”. He said those excuses were designed to mask Ms Gillard’s overweening ambition.

If Gillard had such overwhelming ambition she would have taken over from Beasley late 2006—she had way more support than Rudd did.

The last Labor government was a tragedy and disaster, but Labor supporters are looking forward to the future.

Rudd was an OK PM but over all he was always toxic for the party because he drove his personal ambition too hard.

He was undermining and leaking on Latham right through the 2004 election campaign an had significant impact on the Labor vote his follow up work undermining Gillard once again had a significant impact on Labors election chances in 2010 and again in 2014.

I am sure Gillard and Rudd's memoirs will be best sellers for years.  Howard's one started off OK, then found it's way to the $2 Shop where I bought mine.  They are giving them away at Woolies Servos now if you buy $1 worth of fuel.

It has taken him 10 years to admit that he was disappointed to find there were no WMD's, you can only wonder how the 600,000 people who died because of it felt about his little error.

Most of his original book probably needs to be revised with this years revisions.

A surplus or deficit is neither good or bad too many is a problem because of debt levels.

Deficit from a government which spent 6 years complaining about them and promising to deliver Surpluses goes to their credibility or honesty and drastically accelerating the rate expands on their untenable political situation.

After all the responsible economic managers or the adults are in charge and going economically backwards as expected.

The damage was worst than they thought, i predicted they were never going to achive a Surplus, the damage labor had done was too severe, We will never again have a  Surplus, and both parties will slowly forget the deficit issue.

And we will go bankrupt like everyone else blaming capitalism for the failure of our nations ignoring the fact we have broken every rule of capitalism since 1950.

Not really before the election they quietly admitted that their first projected surplus would be in 2024. They started back peddling towards the truth when it looked like they would be elected.

Things got a lot worse because of two factors one has been the continuation of declining income and the second and reason for acceleration has been drastically increased spending. This from the opposition who told us that it was important to live within your means. Then of course we look at their budget and see that the only fair liberal solution is to take from the poor in order to balance the books.

Oh good grief!

Firstly, the shambles SET OUT to push back the return to surplus, then outdid themselves in incompetent economic management. Part of it is a recession is now on the cards and that will further blow out the deficit. But if it destroys unions than apparently that is OK.

Nah, a steady return to surplus has been disrupted. As I said in my Cognitive Dissonance post the MYEFO is going to be a game changer because it will be a clear and incontrovertible sign of how badly monkey, Hokey & Co have stuffed up our economy.

Yet the tax expenditures offer a large boost to tax revenue—funny how all the Libs have done in regards to those is to wind back the first step Swan made to cut them back. Very funny that since the shambles are, supposedly, keen to return to a surplus.
