Title: ?? HELP Please advise how to catch a...
Post by Emma Peel on Sep 11th, 2014 at 8:26pm
Anyone..?

I have a (singular) Asian Gecko camping outside my front door and general vicinity.

Until about 6 mths ago I only had native geckos and skinks etc..
..but someone brought me one accidentally. ..  in a backpack.  I knew about it almost immediately.. OK a day..
I heard the f'er..!!  I knew where it was from ..  .. and tried to locate it by sound.  Nearly got it early days..  got its tail only..

since then .. well.. it shuts up  for a while and I hope something has eaten it..!  but,, nope  churping away... then over colder mths  .. quiet..  but now its warm again it sits outside my front screen and chirps it's head off.  REALLY ANNOYING..  I can't see it .. it sees me first.   >:(  I only have ONE...   thank goodness... so far...  it calls out .. but never gets a reply..

SO

HOW  can i catch it and put it back somewhere else.. ??

Please anyone..??  do I lure it somehow ??  it knows me ..now that I nearly got it and missed... ..how can I catch it  ANYONE..??

EEK
Baygon is worse than a cat.. almost... it'll kill all the good geckos and skinks as well.  :(

No  I was more thinking of like a wee trap.. or  source that'll lure it inside..in to something..    reckon I could get it then.. butwhat'll  attract it..??  hmmm ??  this is the hunting and fishing topic right..??

How do you catch a gecko..??  unharmed..

You want it unharmed? So you can kill it? Or do you want to start breeding them?

Your urine suggestion is interesting.

::)

I'll take it back to where it came from...

these Asian geckos are likely to cause significant harm to native geckos and skinks by taking over their habitat,  .. it is now impossible to stop these little imports, which have been  spreading  significantly in recent yrs but I can at least try to prevent them establishing in this little piece of the world.

Might as well just get used to it. How far from the 'front' are you?

I am the front line.  I have a small LandforWildlife property and continually strive to keep it as natural as poss..  as I can ..  so that the native local habitat is available to survivors of Qld's rampant development in regional./ish areas..  its a riparian corridor.. so I guard it jealously.  >:(

Get it pissed.......then the good ones will only have a hangover when they sober up  but you may be able to catch the one you want........no joke.

But it is OK to deliberately release invasive pests on other people's land?

not what I said... don't make a meal of it..  ::)

No.. the house it came from is already infested.. ..  I could kill it.. I suppose, but that seems pointless... not something I would choose to do.. altho.. ??

now you mention it..  I should treat it like a cane toad.

I catch them on wet summer nights, or whenever they make themselves evident..  ...a  hand in a plastic bag,  grab 'm ..  then..   cool'm off in the fridge for an hr or two.. then.. into the freezer. Bye bye lots of toads..

OK  you've convinced me... IF  I catch this wee pest I'll freeze it to death.     [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Why not? I think that'd solve the problem quite neatly. As long as it isn't poisonous.

Although, I'm curious about this wee trap. Just make sure you get it the right way around:

Emma I agree with Sprintcyclist.

One way to catch a gecko is to put a light behind a window, this will attract both insects and the gecko.

Do not try and catch by hand but a large piece if cloth (sheet size if can be handled.) approach extremely slow so little movement can be noticed,  the cloth is litteraly thrown and this envelops the gecko! Good luck

Use a shotgun. Every time you hear a noise, shoot in that general direction. It sorts out all kinds of problems.

SpecialCharacter,

Gun control, means being able to hit your target.              :)

Which is precisely why we need to keep them out of bad peoples' hands.

SpecialCharacter,

Epic fail!!!!!

Because even in many nations like Australia.

Even with stringent 'gun control' laws [in many nations like Australia].

Criminals [your 'bad people'] have ready access to [and possession of] firearms, as is witnessed in the frequent news reports to that effect.

SpecialCharacter,

QUESTION;
If 'guns' are so very dangerous, why are members of the police allowed to possess them ???????

Do you believe that there are no CRIMINALS among the ranks of the police community ?

Hmmmm ?

But i do agree, that we [Australians] should be doing everything that we can, to keep firearms out of the hands of 'bad people' [i.e. criminals].

And no one can tell who are the 'good people' ['not' criminals], among the police community,     so [for the protection of the Australian community] all police officers should be disarmed,       because guns are too dangerous, to risk them falling into the hands of those police officers who are criminals!                :o

So you agree with me, and you call it an epic fail. An epic fail because I shouldn't want your concurrence?

Sure, if that's what you want. It seems to work well enough in the UK. Not to mention our coppers have OC spray, tasers, and the good ol' nightstick (as well as the other nightstick, but that's a whole other story!).
