Title: ban the burqa...
Post by General True Blue on Sep 11th, 2014 at 6:01pm

Quote:
Christian Democratic Party leader the Rev Fred Nile is again trying to ban the wearing of the burqa in NSW.

Mr Nile's private members bill, introduced in state parliament on Thursday, would prohibit the wearing of the burqa and other face coverings in public.

It follows similar bans in Belgium and France and comes after his failed attempt at blacklisting face coverings in 2010.

Mr Nile denies the bill is anti-Muslim, saying his concern lies with national security.

The MP sought to align his bill with Wednesday's arrest in Queensland of two men allegedly linked to terrorist groups in Syria.

'We also face the new Islamic State (IS) terrorist threat, whose black uniforms for both men and women include face coverings to prevent identification,' he told the chamber on Thursday.

Under his plan, a person who covers their face in public would face a $550 fine and a person who forces someone else to cover their face would be hit with a $1100 penalty.

While Mr Nile stressed that his bill's text does not include the words 'burqa or Muslim', much of his speech to parliament about the plan focused on the burqa. The plan allows faces to be covered under certain conditions, such as during a parade

it should extend to the "hoody" as well..

Yeah, you've seen lots and lots of bank robberies I bet.  Since when has the australian way been to place a general ban on wearing certain items of clothing.  The one that needs to leave is you.  And p!ss off soon please because your hatred really does cause a lot of unnecessary tension and angst in this country.

yes,

and it doesn't look good in Australia especially when tony abbott tried to reach out to the Islamic community only to be snubbed by some in "that" community...

it just shows their support for the beheading and extremist way of life that they love...

I blame Labor, the most, for letting our boarders get out of control allowing thousands of these terrorist into our country...

banning the burqa would be the first step for our security.. no, second step.. the first step is to secure our boarders like the Liberal government has done..  :)

How many times does the community need to meet abbott?

Muslims have families and work to, you expect them to drop everything for a meeting.

Most of the government advisers who meet the muslims are always late for the meetings and have quick meetings, they hardly give the muslims fair time and consultation.

some muslim leaders met with tony.
Some refused the meeting, citing grounds other than 'my 8 year old had his soccer training that night'.

where is your evidence on the allegation of 'government advisers' ?

The strange thing about this issue is that Muslims will ask you to take off your shoes before you enter a Mosque. But asking a Muslim woman to take off her head scarf before entering a bank or a store? Well, some might accommodate the concept. But not all. Even the police in England will take off their shoes when investigating a mosque related issue. Don't know how much more kowtowing they have to do before they finally become the Islamic State of Britain. Anyone else want to draw the line here before we suffer the same fate?

wally - thanks for your link to Mr Brandis being 1 hour late to one meeting.

I don't think that is hugely significant, but thanks.

Quote:
.............Leaders left the meeting in Parramatta with the same concerns they had at the start about the Muslim community being unfairly targeted.........

........Last week, a handful of Islamic leaders refused to attend meetings with Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Sydney and Melbourne........

http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2014/08/29/muslim-leaders-unhappy-with-a-g-s-meeting.html

the muslim community is where all the extremism is coming from.
It is not coming from rock climbers or tea drinkers.
the muslim community is obviously the area to target.

muslim leaders deliberately refused to meet Mr Abbott in 2 different cities - that is an insult.

Right so let me get this straight.  You're offended by the "apparent" inconsistency of being asked to take your shoes off before you enter a mosque (one really has to ask how often you enter a mosque but lets leave that for the moment) and therefore lets enact a law that tells everybody that they can't wear a burqa.  Tell me how long did it take you to dream up that lame excuse for telling people they cant live their lives as they please.

Do you walk in to a bank with a hoodie or a helmet on your head that doesn't give people a good indication of who you are, and then expect the bank to accept that? But being asked to take off your shoes at a mosque, that's okay? Like, if you worked for an ambulance, I would assume that the imam's and such would obviously turn a blind eye. But an investigation by police inside a mosque, the officers are asked to take their shoes off. I know it happens in England. But I don't know if it happens in Australia. Anyone know?
Oh, and I haven't set foot inside a mosque. The closest I came was to placate some non-Christian people (mostly Muslims) by attending a community centre for prayer. The question on whether I should have removed my shoes was addressed as a concern. But politely overlooked.
Whilst you asked, the public don't have a right to live their lives as they please. There's a thing called the "laws" that people live and abide by. Assuming you meant the question in terms of in conjunction with reference to the law. Spartacus, you can't go around violently protesting some cartoon depiction of Muhammad, and claim religious persecution, either.
I think my theories regarding double standards for ethnics (ie, non-whites) evolved ever since a run in with a religious Muslim father who thought he had a right to label "the infidel" as pathetic, and later tried to run me down with his car, when I was riding on my bike home from school. Fairly influential life altering experience, one might think.
