Title: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by Armchair_Politician on Sep 9th, 2014 at 2:44pm
A poll of around 1200 people has found that the majority are supportive of the Abbott governments' decisions relating to IS and Iraq. This news will further isolate the lunatic Greens and their supporters, as if they weren't already alone enough!

Howard was the same for much of his time in the big chair. and if to underline the value of this poll value, remember that Rudd has huge popularity. now... what was that connection between popularity and effectiveness again????? hmmmm????? |

What's 1200 people? But still, it wouldn't be a surprise if it were representative.
People are disturbed about this IS mob. However, dropping arms to the good guys is one thing, putting advisers on the ground anywhere west of Perth is another. |

Yes our pollies and freedom-loving interventionists are just bursting with altruism.
So remind me, when will the great intervention to help the Nigerians stop Boko Haram's reign of terror begin? ...oh yeah, I almost forgot - we don't give a rats arse about Africa. |

when he was opposition lead the Bulleting Mag ran an article 'Mr 18%.. why does this man bother?' I remember it because he became australias seoncd-longest serving PM. Personal popularity is not a very important measure. surely the Rudd experience sould have made that abundantly clear. |

Title: Re: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by St George of the Puissant HLT on Sep 9th, 2014 at 5:27pm
That was 15 years before he became PM.
The LNP was in negative poll support for most of Johnny’s terms, he managed to bribe enough to wine the elections, until he overstepped the mark with WorkChoices. That isn’t the same as saying his approvals were mostly negative—I call bulldust on that! |

Whatever.
Essential Research shows Labor still 52 to LNP 48. Abbott about as popular as leprosy (deservedly) and his Iraq policies disapproved off. When his persecution of Gillard comes to nought tomorrow he at least will sink further in approval. Somebody—get rid of this mob of clowns and baboons before too much harm is done for goodness sake! http://essentialvision.com.au/category/essentialreport |

yes, yes, but for how long was Howard been Mr 18%? Tony's been Mr 18% or worse since he became opposition leader. ;D That's now 4 years of not once getting a positive approval rating. |

Title: Re: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by St George of the Puissant HLT on Sep 9th, 2014 at 5:57pm
The odd desperate fanboi (very odd one here ;D ) drags out Mr 18%. That was not in the mid–90s tho.
Monkey has no chance of repairing his standing: he has little intellect or sensitivity or empathy and has made a terrible debut. They need to totally withdraw and redo their Budget just for starters. |

for goodness sake? who cares??? if the past 15 years haven't demonstrated conclusively that popularity of a PM has zero correlation to electability then nothing will. Howard was unpopular and won. Gillard was almost always more popular than Abbott and yet was never even close to beating him. Rudd was sky-high popular and was a total dud of a PM. why not stick to a topic that has some actual relevance? |

We are talking approval not popualrity.

Title: Re: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by Team Knight Errant Grappler on Sep 9th, 2014 at 6:20pm
We're talking approval of the handling of one issue.... that is not an all-encompassing mandate...
The same result would appear for Bill Shorten or Julia Gillard if he/she were in the hot seat and took the same decision. As always - what were the questions? What was the target audience? |

Title: Re: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by adelcrow on Sep 9th, 2014 at 6:21pm
If we are going to govern based purely on what is popular then based on the polls since the election Abbott must resign

It is relevant that while people may support Tony's warmongering they absolutely hate him with disgust. And of course it's relevant because it leads directly to why this government has never even slightly enjoyed a period of approval. They won on the back of Labor being disfunctional and are now staring down a complete reversal come next election. Why? It's not just because their budget is crap. It's largely because no one really wanted them in the first place, but ultimately there was no choice. It's a completely different scenario to Howard who had his natural peaks and troughs, and won elections on the back of at least having positive approval ratings. Tony has never had one positive rating. You would think that on the back of the warmongering he's now done for 2 months that people support he'd at least get some boost to his own personal standings? Na ah. He's still hated. ;D |

Title: Re: Poll: Majority support Iraq decision Post by Andrei.Hicks on Sep 9th, 2014 at 6:27pm
It's not war mongering though is it?
Have you seen the situation occurring in the region? A stand simply needs/needed to be taken otherwise we in the western world will end up swamped by terrorism - which will end up calling at our doorstep if left unanswered. Nothing more clear than that given the anniversary of 9/11 coming up about the dangers of not addressing fundamentalist terrorism. It's probably the one area where I'd have to praise your man Putin in his iron fist on dealing with Islamic terror in Chechnya. |

Of course people support us mopping up the mess Howard, Bush and Blair left...but once we do it there needs to be a Royal Commission into the lies and deception used to justify the three amigos Iraq invasion.

Andrei... mah man - it is already at our doorstep. Canada is sending military advisors - how long do you think it will be before Oz does the same? 'S a bi' like Norven Ahland - whenna goin' ge's tough - sen' in The Regiment. Looks good inna papers an' all. OFTEN (do not misquote me here) the introduction of advisors is followed by an escalating need to offer them support and protection, often in the way of close air support, which then generates the need for airfield defence and so forth. OFTEN sending in the clowns (ya wanna ping me for that - go talk to a real grunt - some do talk that way, you know) is the beginning of escalation. It is VERY difficult to apply just enough force in such a situation, drawing the fine line between endangering your troops and escalating into full on conflict. You cannot fight a war with one hand tied behind your back.... which is why many feel that full intervention is the only way. I fully anticipate a full blown conflict shortly. Be prepared..... |

Essential Poll shows more disapprove of action in Iraq than approve.

Giving weapons to any minority group who are fighting for their own autonomy is a bad idea.....The Kurds are fighting for their own state within Iraq, Iran and Turkey which has the potential to blow up in Abbott's face.....Once Abbott gives these people weapons he will be responsible for who ever they turn them on next....Once IS are eliminated the Sunni's and Shiite will not stop fighting each other and we are arming the Kurds to make things worse.....Anyone would thing we want to destabilise the region and provoke an even bigger civil war.....Iraq and Syria are torn by civil war and Australia should stay out of it IMO!!!

With the Liberal/Nat vote collapsing since the day after last years election after the Australian people realised that they had sold their souls to the devil its about time Abbott and all of his Ministers resigned.
