Title: The Real Cowards
Post by Dsmithy70 on Sep 8th, 2014 at 5:06pm
Mr Weekend has been throwing this word(Cowards) around a lot lately.
Specifically at anyone who dares question the Drums of War.
Well after reading this little gem over the weekend I think we know who is truly cowardly.

Oh & yes Longy it's by the SMH your other little project for the week, let me use the same logic you have for the past 6 years.
SMH editorial came out in Favour of Abbott in 2013 so just as Murdochs rags are vindicated by support for Rudd so is Fairfax.

Quote:
Australia is crying out for a stable government that can be trusted to deliver what it promises. The Herald believes only the Coalition can achieve that within the limited mandate Tony Abbott will carry into office should he prevail on Saturday.

Quote:
Cutting someone's head off on the internet is not a reason to go to war.

It is a heinous crime. Mediaeval barbarism. But the only reason to go to war is to secure the nation or its most vital interests from an existential threat, and those grotesque snuff videos don't come close. They don't even qualify as a challenge to civilisation, merely a squalid offence to civilised norms perpetrated by the sort viciously moronic janissaries the Nazis employed as death camp guards.

The Herald reported this week that both Abbott and Bill Shorten "took a common position in declaring that Australia and its allies and partners could not stand by while innocent people were slaughtered".
Why? We do that every day, and always have.

Seriously. Every day, good men do nothing, evil triumphs and innocent people die. Every day. Some are beheaded by deranged jihadi on the web. Some are hacked to death in refugee camps not so far from here. Hundreds bleed out in what are laughably referred to as hospital wards overwhelmed by Ebola. Thousands die in hellholes like Gaza. Millions rot in concentration camps. Again, with some of the smaller boutique gulags funded by you, through your hard working tax dollar.

The world is horror and madness. So why is the horror and madness of the Islamic State our concern? Consider their fanboy coreligionists in Nigeria, Boko Haram, infamous kidnappers/slave traders of 300 school girls. These murderous clowns look good for the sort of stern correction that can only be delivered by a squadron of heavily armed F/A-18F Super Hornets. Not content with knocking Justin Bieber out of Twitter's trending topics for a day with that kidnapping caper, Boko Haram declared their own Caliphate in northern Nigeria in late August, pronounced themselves best friends forever with the Islamic State, and celebrated with the usual round of mass executions, including the reported beheading of a six-year-old boy.

Not a grown man who took a professional risk and paid a grim toll for it. A little boy.

Horror enough, you would think, to justify a tiny bit of bombing. Just a little touch of special forces magic in the night, perhaps? After all, the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is that good men and women be distracted long enough by celebrity nude photo leaks that evil has plenty of time to get its mojo on.

But of course, we won't be going there. Perhaps Nigeria, in spite of its oil wealth, is not our strategic concern. Where, then, are the battalions of those who should be concerned? The Saudi King warns that IS will be in Europe and America within months. The Saudi King, the closest thing we have to an absolute monarch outside of North Korea these days, has at his convenience an army of 75,000 men, including a 1000-strong tank armada which might even give Vladimir Putin a moment's pause if he found them sitting astride some patch of turf he might like to place within his possession. The Royal Saudi Air Force, deploying from bases somewhat closer to the Islamic State than Williamstown, boasts more than 300 combat aircraft, including F15E Strike Eagles and shiny new Eurofighter Typhoons, barely out of their bubblewrap.

And yet, in spite of King Saud's fit of the vapours about the threat of IS, there is no suggestion that these formidable war machines might do anything like deploy from those conveniently located Saudi air fields. No. His oil slaves will do that work. And many in his Kingdom will go on quietly supporting their Sunni brethren in IS.

So why are we going to another war? Surely not because the last one went so well? And why is Tony Abbott banging the drum so much louder than his American commander?

You might imagine it has nothing to do with some infantile crusade against mediaeval barbarism. You might think a certain PM sees an opportunity to pull out of the death spiral his government's been in since it handed down the most unpopular budget in living memory. You might think that one blunder after another has forced him to an impasse where nothing is left to him but blood and circuses. You might think that. But I couldn't possibly comment.

Senator Sue Lines was happy to comment, though. Almost alone among her Labor colleagues she had the courage to call Abbott's pompous bluster for what it is, a desperate diversion. She didn't excuse or minimise the atrocities of IS. She didn't even argue against a military response. She merely pointed to the way the increasingly unpopular PM was using the prospects of military action as a shield against domestic criticism. She was, of course, traduced and belittled for it, by friend and foe alike.

But she was right, and she was right to speak up. What she did took more courage than anything Abbott has yet done. She is the sort of politician who really protects her country.

so the solution to not enough action everywhere it is needed is none at all?

wow. how impressive!!!

So let me be clear here, the SMH is saying because we don't go to war over Nigeria (which is false since the USA and UK sent forces specifically to that task) we shouldn't go anywhere?  it is EVERYWHERE or nowhere?

yep you were right. it is not cowardice.  it is far worse.  It is ignoring all problems because you cant solve all of them.

I give to a lot of charities. But not all of them.  in fact I don't give to most of them but in line with the SMH's thinking I will now withdraw my sponsorship of a couple World Vision Kids, Red Cross breakfast for kids and special appeals.  If I cant do it all, then I should do nothing. After all I am only giving to charities that appeal to my preferences.

I will certainly have more money now.  Thanks SMH and thanks dSmithy70 for showing me the error of my ways.

ps tough luck kids in Africa.  looks like you are going to just have to starve to death instead of taking money from compromised people like me.

LOL, in your haste to post vitriol against your perceived enemies you got it all wrong

The Cowards I was referring to are the Saudi's & their impressive military that does nothing.

no. I didn't get it wrong at all.  you act all pompous like if the rest of the world wont help then neither should we.  yes, the Saudis are slack.  so what?  we let people die because other people are lazy or indifferent.  Ive written before of the moral imperative, that drive that pushes you to do the right thin no matter what anyone else does.  Ever heard of it because it don't sound like it.

SMH is looking for a way to attack Abbott and is using this as a distraction.  It is pitiful but worse still that you would get on board an opinion that puts abbott-hate above the welfare of disadvantaged and dying people ANYWHERE.

yep, the USA and others (including us) can be painfully biased where we project force and military might, but it craps all over those that do nothing and those that criticise what we DO do.  Like you.

do not be so presumptuous as to call 'truth' that which supports your opinion.  the claims that Abbott is doing this for political advantage is many things but one thing it absolutely is not is proven fact.  I would hope that is not something you need to have proven to you.

btw any news on who paid for the ISIS Flag that was auctioned off in Sydney???... wasnt one of our greeny friends of ISIS was it?

she was alone in the ALP because even they know that going to the aid of people is what Australian govts do.  and yes, they probably benefit from it politically but that is not the motivation and never has been.  I think some people on here have forgotten what real leadership is all about and presume that Abbott is like Rudd who never made a single decision if it didn't benefit him politically.

you are right... you cant know for sure.  but the presumption of malicious reasons is pretty lame.  If Rudd or Gillard were doing it I would not presume evil motive.  Helping people out in distress is what we as Australians do.  Or we used to, until the little weedy cowards came out and declared that no one ever does anything for altruistic motives - becayse they don't.

Well here is some news.  Tony Abbott is a good man. He wants to help people.  Bill Shorten is a good man who wants to help people.  what the hell are you?

Abbott wants to help people???

Well, I suppose he does: Pell, Gina, Twiggy, Murdoch.

But hurt lots and lots of other people: low income workers, students, pensioners, the sick etc etc.

Guess Abbott hates and wants to hurt Australians but wants to crawl to a few.

your cynicism is disturbing.  But worse you use it to justify doing nothing.  we often act out of no ones benefit as does the USA.  Sure sometimes it is our own benefit, but also often not.  You seem to want this utopian star trek kind of universe where everyone is good an everyone acts like Mother Theresa.  grow up.  that wont ever be and in its palce are flawed people often actually badly but also often acting good.  you apparently cant tell the difference.

probably the real truth of who is a coward is found in the poll.  the largest response by far is 'don't give a crap about anyone else'.  So perhaps the real problem with Abbott going to the aid of other people in the world is that such actions do not resonate at all with so many people on here.   No, you are not cowards as that would require an emotional response.  You are simply compassionless cretins.  Harldy an improvement.

If ferals want to behead people and post it on the net, then i think it will be a lot of fun to go and turn them into toast.

We got drones to rain down the terror from the sky on these fools.

i wouldn't even make it a responsibility of the department of defence.
i'd put the minister for "sports and recreation" onto it.
Buy a few drones, toast a few ferals and show it on the news mixed in with the sports reports ;) ;).

Heres a great shot on goal by the drone team, That looks like mohammed from Lakemba being fried. Can we go to the video ref.  Yes a perfect head shot. Stay tuned for tomorrow night when Mustafa from liverpool goes head to head with the Drone team. ;) ;) ;) ;)

She is the sort of politician who really protects her country.

protects from what???  all she did was seek political advantage, the very thing you accuse Abbott of doing.

I couldnt be bothered reading it to be honest... did she say what the left want us to call terrorists when we are not talking about beheadings and nasties like that?.. I am still waiting for the left to explain what their new name for these people are...

as this lady is so courageous perhaps we should send her to Iraq where she will stand up in all her glory eyeball to eyeball.with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and tell him to lay down his arms.. I am sure she will impress...

btw any news on who paid for the ISIS Flag that was auctioned off in Sydney???... wasnt one of our greeny friends of ISIS was it?

"as this lady is so courageous perhaps we should send her to Iraq where she will stand up in all her glory eyeball to eyeball.with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and tell him to lay down his arms."

Now there's merit in your idea - let's send Tony for an eyeball to eyeball... after all - he's got his hands in on the controls.... that oughta terrorise them nasty IS people into surrender..

"greeny friends of ISIS"

Now that, poppets, is what is called a 'left fielder' using a grab bag of personal hates.  It's in the same vein as saying "Hitlerite/Aminist friends of LNP"..... which I'm sure dear cods would NEVER consider a viable statement...

This may come as a surprise but I’ve reached “don’t care” level.

I’d be happy if I never hear the words muslim or Islam again. I’d be happy if we never accepted another muslim into our country.

Hack heads off, machine gun 100’s of unarmed men in the head, cut people’s heads off for breaking the law, kidnap 100’s of innocent young girls. Let’s just turn a blind eye and leave them to it. Let them have their caliphate across Nth Africa and the middle east.

If people in the ME want to live in peace then let them rise up and defeat them

God surely is great.

The “muslim spring” is dust.

probably the real truth of who is a coward is found in the poll.  the largest response by far is 'don't give a crap about anyone else'.  So perhaps the real problem with Abbott going to the aid of other people in the world is that such actions do not resonate at all with so many people on here.   No, you are not cowards as that would require an emotional response.  You are simply compassionless cretins.  Harldy an improvement.

That's right.  Starting a war is an act of compassion.

so you mean that committing genocide ISNT an act of war???

It's not an act of war against us.

Not sure where genocide comes into it though - that word is used far too freely these days.

"So let me get this right, if we don't "do what we can" to act against one specific group in one specific civil war, whilst doing nothing about other significant perpetuations of human misery we are cowards.

So just a little bit of an ironic twist then, one of the main arguments against the carbon tax was that the rest of the world was not doing their bit, so why should we?

Cowardly position?"

This is part of a post I made in the flag banning thread, however, this specific question would seem pertinent in this thread as well...

They sure seem to have done alright off it.  That they can claim it was altruisticly motivated is a cherry on top.

I agree, dear. Our boys can have a jolly time fighting Arabs in the desert for another decade. They will be like your prized stallions against those swarthy camels. Australia will be brave and strong again, and we can come home each night and watch it on the telly.

Win or lose, it will all be a hoot. At the end, we can hand Arabia over to some despot and start all over again somewhere else.

karmal.
sometimes i go out with my golf driver and belt a few cane toads.
I'm under no delusion i'm going to rid the country of cane toads.  it probably only makes a small dent in the population of these undesirables.
Now, everyone would agree that anyone driving in a convoy with the ISIS is just as undesirable as a cane toad. so, we might not get them all (in fact i'm sure we wont) but it will provide some satisfaction to fry their asses. i cant see why we would risk putting anyone on the ground except to call in the targets for the laser guided missiles to hit.
Yep, it will be ineffective, but its a tiny bit more effective then UN hand wringing  and it would go some way to discouraging bullies when they know they might be vaporised.
its a win/win

Of course. But dumb sheeple WANT it to be like they're told on TV. That's much easier for them. They couldn't deal with the truth. The truth is way to difficult for them. They prefer the easy lie. Hating a fictional group of people they have been shown on TV is the easiest thing in the world. One doesn't even need an IQ above room temperature to do that.
