Title: India Rejects Morrison Deportation Request
Post by Abbott Lies on Jul 24th, 2014 at 12:39am

Quote:
Delhi: The Indian government appears likely to only accept the return of Indian nationals among the 157 Tamil asylum seekers who have been held on the high seas by Australian customs officials since late June.

Immigration Minister Scott Morrison, along with Lieutenant-General Angus Campbell, met with India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Delhi on Tuesday to request that India accept all 157 people who were intercepted by Australian authorities on a ship that departed from the Indian territory of Puducherry around June 13...

...in an apparent rebuff to Australia’s request, India only agreed to send its consular officials on board the Australian customs vessel to determine who, if any, among the asylum seekers is of Indian origin.
The Indian government has so far refused to accept that any of those on board are Indians, maintaining that the asylum seekers are all of Sri Lankan origin.
Indian media reports on Tuesday said that Mr Morrison had advised the Indian government that some of the asylum seekers may be Indian because the ship that was intercepted by Australia was flying the Indian tricolour.
“These people could also be from Sri Lanka or any other Asian country,” said one government official quoted by The Indian Express newspaper. “Just because they had an Indian national flag atop their boat does not prove their nationality. They only look Indian. We have asked Australia now for consular access to these people.”
Describing Mr Morrison as Australia’s “embattled Immigration Minister”, India’s biggest-selling English daily, The Times of India, reported that Australia had earlier attempted to convince Sri Lanka to accept the 157 asylum seekers “but Colombo blew them away”...

To be fair to India, they are likely right here.

The vast majority are likely to be Sri Lankan.

Sri Lanka has in the past requested that Australia and Canada not provide asylum to Tamils given they are security concerns for their country.

I think the best bet is to convince Sri Lanka to accept them and deal with them.

Hmmm - right or right.. it's all in the eye of the .. beholder (for want of a better term).

That is why I prefer to deal with individuals rather than........... units in some bean counter philosophy that has short-term results and no regard for long-term deficits, and does not include the human factor.

Andrei The Robot - consider this your education in life.

The recent history of the West is replete with disasters wrought by bean counters and social scientists who count beans by any other name.

Which side are you one for the Future? You and yours will vanish under the tsunamis of popular resentment like so many others.

Is it not better to NOW get on board the proper wave of the future?  Trust me - your genetic strain will die out unless you do.... unless you have children illegitimate with any number of tramps.

Footnote:-  If I did not see a glimmer of hope in you - I would not say these things.

Send him to Sri Lanka on a 'study tour'.. as an indigent refugee.

Let us then await the outcome.....

Where are the 153 asylum seekers?

Held captive on Australia's newest detention centre, somewhere on the high seas, by Morrison the maniac.

Oh dear.....

I don't think holding these people for a long term, on a boat at sea is the right thing to do.

These are two separate issues.  You can disagree with their mode of transport and also think that what Australia is doing is "not the right thing to do".

Exactly, i'm no fan of the asylum seeker industry.

But sometimes compassion over-rides political argy bargy and slinging sh!t on a forum.

So what do you do?
Let them come to Australia and settle?

That'd send a superb message wouldn't it?

Morrison has a problem, unless he drowns the prisoners on board, that boat never come to an Australian port again!

It's like you didn't even read my response.  My point was that you can hate on the people smuggling business as well as Australia treating innocent people like cattle.

The rational answer here is to convince the Government of Sri Lanka to accept them and do with them as they please.

They are not Australians, they are not in Australia, they have nothing at all to do with us.

Yes but I was also asking you what you think we should do?

The answer is not to let them in.

Then perhaps we shouldn't be putting them into Australian custody. Doing so means we have a duty of care at the very least from a moral standpoint.

I agree.  What are they doing on our ship?

India is like Indonesia...  They don't want them there, they don't want them back, they want to be rid of them... send the Indians back to india and the rest to Sri Lanka.  Where they came from and belong.

Scum probably pirated it. We should send in the SAS to recover it.
