Title: Clinton praises Julie Bishop
Post by labor are corrupt on Jul 23rd, 2014 at 3:58pm
Former US president Bill Clinton has paid tribute to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop's efforts to get the UN Security Council to agree on a resolution on the MH17 disaster.

Ms Bishop has been widely applauded for her effort in securing the resolution, which also had the support of Russia.

"I was very proud yesterday to be in this country when the Australian foreign minister spoke at the UN," Mr Clinton told an AIDS conference in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Funny Clinton's opinions mean nothing every other day.

Then again 4 days ago the UN was a waste of time & money.

Go figure :-?

the UN is still a waste of time and money and that hasn't changed.  Just interesting that 'Nigel No-friends' or the 'travelling embarrassment' as labor loves to say is picking up kudos from pretty much everywhere. I never expected Abbott to be particularly good at diplomacy or international affairs but he doing a really really good job and frankly vastly better than the labor hacks and even much of Howards term as well.

At least the world knows we have balls and knows what we think.

Nice try at the Bullshit, Russia supported its resolution which was handed up the steel chastity belt.

Clinton was happy to be in Australia while Bishop away at the UNSC says it all!

I notice you've begun questioning people's ........what courage?

Courage is required to voice a differing opinion to the majority, not blindly follow & clap along.

And as has been pointed out to you in numerous other threads it's about your hypocrisy, now you want to quote Clinton, last week you would have poured scorn on the man because he womanises.

Last week the UN was.... well its been covered & yes you still say its a waste in a roundabout way but gone is the inflection, the contempt, now its just a shrug of the shoulders.

And frankly until this tradgedy you were MIA, I appriecate business ebbs & flows but not a post for months(the bad/hard months) yet now your here.

Some might say "Fairweather" ;)

Yes it's amazing how they think the UN is pointless, but when Bishop does something in the UN they are thrilled.

What the? Do you think they realise they make no sense?  I really hope that 90% of the time they are playing devil's advocate.

It would be of interest if we could see what Clinton said.  I was watching his speech, and he did not, when I was paying attention, especially single Bishop out.  He certainly did mention her, the Dutch bloke and the USA Rep.

with a post count higher than anyone else on here I think 'fairweather' is a rather ludicrous assessment. taking time off from here and concentrating on business would make a lot of sense, wouldn't you think?

inflection? contempt?  nothing has changed one iota about my opinion of the UN. Do I really need to reiterate every time what a worthless, pointless  waste of time money and effort the UN is?? The Australian resolution at the UNSC was as worthless and pointless as every other one it has ever made.

having a different opinion isn't the definition of courage. 'Light' has a different opinion on virtually every topic and he is merely insane. You can share the majority opinion and be courageous while being a small minority and a fool. or vice verse.

Courage is when you stand up for your beliefs and for those who cannot stand up. It is when you stand up to be counted for those lying in bits in a field on the other side of the world, their lives destroyed by a country that invades another and arms idiots with missiles. Courage is when you step out of your comfort zone to defend the rights of those unable to defend themselves. it is not courage to criticise those that defend those that cannot do so. That is true cowardice and we have seen that in spades here over the past few days.

Uhmm from what I recall there was no forceful putting of anything.

And words must transition into Action. So once again, please tell me, to what purpose have Tony's words served?   It appears the Dutch and Malaysians are themselves sending forensic help and repatriating the bodies, but without beating their chests nor calling their assistance, "OPERATION BRING THEM HOME"

I'm not the one bringing politics into it, I'm simply commenting on the politics that has been brought into it by Tony.

You of course wouldn't have known me during the Bali Bombings, but when there was no politics in play by Howard during the initial stages of that tragedy I was in full support of his actions.

Just like I was in full support of BOTH Campbell Newman and Bligh during the floods.

But Tony... well, "OPERATION BRING THEM HOME" speaks for itself.

And I don't mean to lecture you, other than to tell you that you are defying your own definition of courage.

So I'll expect to see post condemning Morrison for his imprisonment of Iraq's & Afghan peoples.

USA for arming numerous rebels throughout the world.

I will start when I read you condemning Russia...

well that ended quickly, didn't uit???

Did Russia shoot then plane down??

Or do I condemn then for supplying?

OK sure I condemn Russia for supplying armaments to rebel armies.

Your turn

Lets start with the USA

Iran's shar
Pinochet in South America
Taliban & then Northern Alliance in Afghanistan
And thats just off the top of my head.

it has taken nearly a week to get you to offer a piddly antiseptic comment about this incident. do you want a medal?  When you want a serious debate then start by being a serious person and making a serious statement.

So I like the USAs actiona overseas at times? No.

No I want nothing.

And what's there to debate, I think Tony is farming for domestic political purposes & you don't.

You're not changing your mind no matter how the argument is broken down for you & mines a personal opinion of events.

Let me refer you to my VERY 1st post on this subject

On a personal note this collective grief & hand wringing is puke worthy, the way its being reported & sensationalised is pathetic

I don't know anyone personally so my care factor is the same as when I hear of a road death.

I'm saddened for the family, happy they are anonymous to me & move on with life.

The Media & sadly IMO our PM are worse than ambulances chasing lawyers, Tony for relief in the polls(which would have come anyway) & as USUAL the media for sensationalizing to gain further advertising $$$.

I'm sorry you feel deeply upset & will be mortified if someone close to you was on that plane, but seeing as you haven't divulged that I'm assuming you're caught up in the moment for your own reasons.

The two are mutually inclusive and completely compatable....except no other Nation has Operation Bring Them Home.  It is only Australia and Abbott which/who sees repatriation as a priority and gives that a zingy military name.

"Mr Abbott said Operation Bring Them Home would be coordinated from Ukraine by former Australian Defence Force chief Retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston."

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-07-22/operation-launched-to-recover-and-identify-mh17-victims/5615332

He's turned it into a military exercise, in order to boost his numbers in the polls.

Total scum.

Not surprising though, coming from that sociopath.

I think the best example has already been offered, John Howard and his handling of Bali, to provide further clarification compare his actions with bali and the Tampa.

Tony is JH Tampa when he should be JH Bali.

And look I fully admit I'm currently an empty cynical vessel, so am jaded and a harsh critic.
Not for any party political footy team reason but because, I see no forward thinking from any of our so called leaders.

Not that I blame them, hell we reward them for it.

Dsmithy,

I'm with you.

At times I have a twinge of guilt that for some reason I don't feel the same devastation like others do when hearing of such events.  To me its just a reminder of the harsh world we live in.

In a way I am happy with my lack of empathy, because with the pain, suffering and death that happens on a daily basis around the world my life would be a total misery if I was constantly affected by such events.  It would mean that I would need to avoid watching the news on TV, listening to the radio and reading a newspaper.  I would need to avoid talking to friends just in case they mentioned the latest atrocity.

Yes these events are terrible, and in a perfect world they wouldn't happen, but we don't live in a perfect world, and many face such horrific acts by humanity on a daily basis.

While Abbott and Bishop are milking this event for all its political worth, people seem to forget that this is the daily life that many asylum  seekers are fleeing.  But we see no outrage for their suffering.  Instead we reward them with more suffering if they attempt to come to Australia.

While Abbott and Bishop are milking this event for all its political worth, people seem to forget that this is the daily life that many asylum  seekers are fleeing.  But we see no outrage for their suffering.  Instead we reward them with more suffering if they attempt to come to Australia.

Spot on.

Clinton and Bishop were twins, separated at birth. I can imagine the joy those two would have at plotting ways to start WWIII. Sinister biatches, they are.

I'm sorry you feel deeply upset & will be mortified if someone close to you was on that plane, but seeing as you haven't divulged that I'm assuming you're caught up in the moment for your own reasons.

I want to hear you defend the highlighted statement and explain what Abbott has done that any leader worthy of the title would have done.

Not that I blame them, hell we reward them for it.

jaded and cynical... been there, still there.  try being a liberal voter in SA where the electoral system virtually gives labor every election despite actually losing the 2PP every time.  or watching that complete 'tard Ricky Muir in the senate on the basis of no more votes than most peoples facebook friends.

but even with that, I still recognise strong, if flawed, leadership.  I like Abbott's style.  If nothing else, you cannot accuse him of being weak.
