- " We are not only working towards this change. We are witnessing this change. We women KNOW we are done with competing, done with comparing, and done with playing the ugly/beauty game. We are waking up from the crazy beauty hypnoses we have been under. We are determined to Stop The Beauty Madness in our ourselves, our mothers, our sisters and our daughters. Part of this includes calling out the ugly truths hidden in our culture and our own minds. That's what this campaign is about. It's about strong words that reveal the ideas that need to be seen for what they are. It is not always pretty to see what is hidden deep in our psyche (or even just slightly under the surface), but it is important to see it clearly so that we may call it out and change it. Do we get cultural push back? Yes. Does that stop us? No. Welcome to a new world - one we are creating right here and right now. In this new world, our beauty is defined by whole-self qualities, not eye-to-nose and bust-to-waist-to-hip ratios. In this world, we KNOW we are more than our appearance, our size and our shape. In this world, we are throwing off our role as sales-hypnotized consumers and getting on with the task of changing the world. Now more than ever this world needs us to stop shrinking behind ideas that are too small for us." << ...sounds intelligent enough! ;) ;) Good Luck I say :) |

I dunno! All that we, we women stuff sounds unlike real life. Women are their own worst critics. It's their perception of what they think men/others want, not the reality, that drives them. Do you really think "We women KNOW we are done with competing, done with comparing, and done with playing the ugly/beauty game" is true? Gimme a break. |

They are so mixed up: sure they like being beautiful but I think they are sick of being predated upon from the advertising to the walk home from work where mentally retarded men have images of endless high cheek bones in their heads and start following women they haven't introduced themselves to because they have been taught what to look for at all costs! Sex sells, or haven't you heard? Women are being used as pawns to make the stock exchange fatter i.e. the worlds wealth depends on abusing women! :o :o |

Easy to say, much more difficult to do.
Women will keep trying to impress other women 'til the cows come home (no pun). If it's not with beauty, it will be with some other such as how supposedly independent and powerful they are. Men will keep looking at women in a sexual way because it's just what men are. Business will exploit any human trait in order to make a dollar, and they do it well. The "biggest loser" followed by "master chef" formula works well at perpetuating profits. More subtle conflicting massages are all around...including the above article. Quote:
And you might also say, "It's time to give away selfish grandiose ideas of ruling the world". |

Sad but true. I am certainly no exception and to compound the problem, there's a certain amount of shame that comes with striving to be beautiful. I am turning 40 this year. Conversations with friends inevitably turn to aging and the various degrees to which it bothers us. Such a silly thing to be concerned about because it's obviously better than the alternative. I have many strong, successful older women in my life who should be a reassurance that quality of living doesn't decrease with the appearance of wrinkles etc, but they really aren't. Shallow and superficial, I know, and I'm working on it. Until then, there's always the comfort of knowing Mr Botox will be there when I need him ;) |

Proverbs 12:4
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. 5 The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit. Where is virtue found, in the concerns of the modern woman ? Read the book of Proverbs. |

Whilst I like most of the bible's words that I've read, I think that it falls short of getting the message across in today's language.
I think the message regarding a virtuous woman needs to be followed by what a man is to a woman, otherwise it's sounding as though a woman is like a man's fashion accessory or a trophy. |

Hi Amadd, But of course, today's modern, sophisticated woman would never regard her husband or boyfriend as having such a demeaning 'status', in their relationship with her. ::) :) +++ Paul [the 'woman hater'], said this; Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. |
