Title: Battle of the Boyne Parade Today
Post by Andrei.Hicks on Jul 12th, 2014 at 11:38pm
July 12th is the most important date on the Summer Parades calendar.

The parades through Northern Ireland today mark the defeat by King Wliiiam III of the Catholic King James at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.

Last year following the decision to cordon off parts of the Crumlin Road (which separates Catholic area and Protestant area) - there was what become "The Night of Fire" - clashes between Catholics and Protestants which Police struggled to contain.

High temperatures today and again a decision to re-route the Loyalist march will make like interesting this evening.....

Interesting how Christians acting like this, inspired by their differing interpretations of their version of their shared religion go unremarked upon by the many religious commentators here.   :o

Indeed - no stopping this conflagrationist Loyalists, is there?  Maybe the Brits should walk away from NI and leave it to the Irish.

Countless years of Norman and English invasion and abuse, one million Irish dead from being dispossessed of their homeland in Ulster to put in these same Protestants (including what must be a huge number of my clanspeople since we once ruled Ulster), Anti-Irish Laws (look them up), countless deaths in oppressing and suppressing Irish national sentiment, internment without trial etc......

Yeah - I'd say the Irish have something to complain about - and let me remind you - it's not the majority Catholics who are doing this marching....

Me?  I'm partly Irish Anglican, but the majority of the Clan are Catholic and my lot are considered apostate.. yet a clansman mortared the police training academy at Enniskillen.... and the Clan were the  last to give up Gaelic as first language.

Argh - truly a fractious lot!  You have to be here to know.... the only people my clan fight more than the Sassenach is each other..... truly an Irish national sport...

So true

Even in Australia we had a similar (although fortunately less violent) divide between Catholics v Protestants. It used to be a big issue.

Is there any way we can blame the Muslims for this?

I got it. The Irish are fighting each other because the Muslims did not build a mosque there that both sides could focus their hate on.

Perhaps you could establish a new religion there?

You'd be easily hated by both sides

thus leaving Muslims out of one thread for once.

Hardly.
Though I think the Orange Order have every right to celebrate their history and shouldn't be prevented walking down a public street because it's residents don't like the history of the battle result.

I thought you frowned on demonstrations and marches, Andrei.

It's a march to make a point. Don't dress it up, you know why they do it.

It faded with the arrival of Multiculturalism.  The Islamophobia will fade as well, as Muslims become more integrated in widestream society.   We are seeing the last dying screams of the Islamophobes before they realise they need to focus their efforts on different, newer targets.   ::)

They said it about the Catholics, the Jews, the Seven Day Adventists, the Mormons, the Germans, the Italians, the Greeks, the Jugoslavs, etc., etc.  I don't doubt some black people camped on the shores of Botany Bay said it about the English when they arrived.    ::)

The reality is, we are all Australians now.  You appear unable to learn from history and are doomed to repeat the mistakes by repeating the hatred and intolerance, Gnads.   ::)

Orangemen are Irish Muslims in disguise....

Footnote:-  My family are Orange and Green - neither side would talk to the other and would literally cross over the street rather than meet.  That's in the past and none of us of this generation give a rat's about it.

An clansman traveled to Ireland and went to a village below the castle on the hill and asked the local butcher about his clansman living up there... the butcher replied:-

"If you want to discuss that godless, apostate bastard - you'll have to speak to the priest!"

I like that godless, apostate bastard.. sounds good...   ;D

Walk around London or just outside Gare du Nord in Paris and tell me how "integrated" they've become....
