Sounds like an interesting child rearing paradigm. Pig out kids, don't share your lollies with your sister, grab more toys, think of yourself. Just the values my parents taught me. ;)

No it's not: survival is the incentive and greed is the strategy for domination!

Fairly well put but it made me smile member The Stunt-free Horse because it's a little one sided.

Greed isn't always used for domination but that part of excessive greed has certainly proven to be a problem here on Earth. Greed could be considered not giving to charity so one can save up for that new boat.

Sprintcyclist to your opening statement I'll share this. Is the survival of life considered as greed to you?

I fight for the well being of the future of the life on this planet. I gave up on my own selfishness to put the world first years ago. My incentive is the well being of the future of the life on the planet. How is that greedy? It most certainly is incentive enough for me and I have gained nothing monetarily out of it.

Greed isn't the only incentive.

Semantics: greed means different things to different people I suppose!

The rampant, untrammelled greed that corporatisation and globalisation
have unleashed on the world since the 1980s should be a capital crime.

Let’s take an inventor, Thomas, who has come up with an idea for a new type of light bulb – one that is more efficient, longer-lasting and brighter than the rest. He has done so to serve his own self-interest, in the hope of making himself rich, and perhaps famous. The by-product will be to benefit society as a whole, by creating jobs for those who will make the bulbs and enhancing the lives (and living rooms) of those who buy them. If there had been no demand for the light bulb, no one would have paid Thomas for it, and the invisible hand would have, in effect, slapped him down for making such a mistake.

Similarly, once Thomas is in business, others may see him making money and attempt to outdo him by devising similar light bulbs that are brighter and better. They too start getting rich. However, the invisible hand never sleeps. Thomas starts undercutting his competitors so as to ensure he keeps selling the most. Delighted customers benefit from even cheaper light bulbs.

Green in a structured yet free system (market capitalist) often benefits the many not the few.. this is why in the west we enjoy so much more than those living under socialist rule.

IMO, it would be unlikely that Thomas would have what it takes to come up with such an invention with greed as the motivation.
More likely that a large company would try to buy and suppress his idea or take the majority of profits for themselves. That's why we need such entities as the ACCC...to keep a handle on the greedy at heart.

If he was greedy, Thomas would immediately apply a patent for his you-bewt light bulb  - to ensure that no one can come up with anything better.
