Title: Unesco decision a victory for all Australians !
Post by fractalign on Jun 25th, 2014 at 12:34pm
At last common sense has prevailed. It took just seven minutes for Unesco to reject Abbott's bid to wind back of Tasmania's world heritage listed forests.

The fact that it took seven minutes shows how generous the body was. If it had been me I would have rejected it straight away.

While the forests may be saved, the same can not be said for Australia's international reputation. Once again our PM has made our nation an international laughing stock. I am not sure if he deliberately sets out to trash our reputation or he just can't help it.

One thing is certain than any other PM in living memory. The longer he stays leader, the worse this country will suffer.

With the next Federal election over two years away there is still time for the Coalition to turn the tide of unpopularity they have suffered under his leadership.

There are two options for the Coalition, they either encourage him to step aside or one of them challenges him for the top job.
As his credibility continues to plummet this could become a very real possibility.

My worry is that the other party members will put the loyalty to the man ahead of their loyalty to the party and indeed the nation. If they do indeed choose to remain silent then they will have proven, just like Labor last year , that they are not longer fit to govern.

With Labor washed up and the Coalition looking to go down the same path if it does not address the Leadership problem, we are witnessing the the death of the the two party system.

So if Tony Abbott is still PM at next election I urge all fair minded Australians to put Lay-bore and the Coa-liers last on the ballot box.

Like I said from the outset, the chances of the UN backing the removal was low.

They had just approved it, if they changed it back it would appear to be political games and would weaken the system considerably.

We are lucky the previous government did their best at protecting their legislation from mavericks like Abbott.

The forests have won this time.

Next test is to see if Carbon pricing was made Abbott-proof.

I think Abbott has given Australians reason to feel proud again after 6 years of the most laughable government ever seen in any Western country.

For 6 long years Canberra was Toyland with a couple of buffoons at the controls.

There was even the unedifying spectacle of the prime minister dragging her latest boyfriend off to official functions overseas where much tittering behind hands at this gauche lack of protocol was the common reaction.

After 6 insufferable years the nightmare for the Australian people finally came to a merciful end when the adults took over, with Abbott in charge.

I certainly don't feel that way, I went from being told why can't my nation be more like Australia (Mostly in terms of the NBN and carbon pricing) to why did you guys elect that idiot.

All this decision does is to ensure that unemployment rates in Tasmania will remain among the highest in the country...

Australians don't have the opportunity to elect the bureaucrats in UNESCO

The decision is an affront to, and erosion of, Australian sovereignty.

Even if the the UN had reversed it, it wouldn't have helped. What caused the industry decline in the first place? Basically it was global and local opposition to the practices. Attempting to log that area would have set the protesters off again (regardless of the laws) and the boycotts.

There is little value in throwing out the deal made, it isn't going to reverse the decline of the industry.

Yes, lets boycott timber products (which are renewable) and solely utilise plastic/steel products that do not break down in landfills and are created with the use of toxic chemicals. Good idea! ::)

No it isn't. UNESCO determine what is considered world heritage, Australia recognises via domestic legislation that was implemented by duly elected representatives.

There is zero erosion of sovereignty.

I hate to say it but Australia's sovereignty is being bartered away anyway through one sided free trade deals, so this will be of little consequence to that out come.

I don't usually support a foreign entity passing a judgment on an Australian issue but in this case the majority of Australians were not in agreement with our PM on this issue.

You ain't seen nothin' yet.

This is just Abbott-Lite. This is just the warm-up for his second term. That's when he's going to bring out the Big Guns. No more romancing the public with softy-softly-catchee-monkey.

The second term is when he's going to take no prisoners.

Be afraid ... Be VERY afraid.

Second term ;D. Not unless he gets some runs on the board.

The way his credibility is going at the moment  I am starting to wonder if he will even last until the next election, let alone be re elected to another term.

Don't for one minute think his own party is not thinking the same thing. If his approval rating sinks any lower I will have to scrape it off the bottom of my shoes !

I wonder what he has up his sleeve for his Second Coming.

My guess is he's going to make Torquemada look like a pussy-cat. If anyone can get blood out of a stone it'll be Abbott.

He hasn't finished with us yet ... no sirree. He done got a lot more pain in the pipeline for us miserable Sinners.

He'll have us wearing sack-cloth and pouring ashes on our heads, and beating our own backs with birch-rods before he's done with us, Yes Ma'am!

Ain't gonna be no mercy 'til we Repent our wicked ways.

I have no doubt he will make life a living hell for us if he sees a second term but at there moment I am wondering if that will even happen.

What he has planned for those on any kind of welfare benefit is a jihad.

If you've got two hands to roll your wheel-chair to a factory machine that stamps toothpicks out of timber sheeting... then he'll have you working piece-work, a dollar a bucket.
