There is a little bit of sweet schadenfreude in the plight of the ice-bound Russian ship. The passengers, apparently a group of climate scientists and eco-tourists, were presumably seeking to verify the shrinking south polar ice cap. After being trapped by, wait for it, ice and ignominiously airlifted to safety, they will all return home to affirm their religious beliefs of man-made global warming. Oh, by the way, this was summer in the southern hemisphere.

The Democrat global warming hoax cannot explain the deep freeze the world is now going through and the global warming lunatics stuck in the ice on those ships at the South Pole where it was summer down there.

The world has been warming and cooling for millions of years. Man has nothing to do with the weather. Very sad when people fall prey to such nonsense as is global warming.

This idea of human-induced global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated in human history. In reality, it is nothing but a fraud, a get-rich-quick scheme for climate scientists on government grants and washed-up politicians like Al Gore.

If Al Gore and his ilk were right with these outrageous claims in the 1990s, Miami and New Orleans would be 20 feet under water right now. Why doesn’t anybody ever hold these zealots accountable for their idiotic predictions?

These zealots have done enough damage to our country. Their paranoia has led to our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, which has resulted in funding of Muslim extremists whose top priority in life is to kill us.

A prominent scientist and former NASA researcher challenges the “scientific fact” that manmade carbon emissions are causing global warming. Leslie Woodcock is a professor emeritus of chemical thermodynamics at the University of Manchester in England.  He has stated that “The theory is that CO2 emitted by burning fossil fuel is an unsubstantiated hypothesis.” Many of today’s global warming scientists have a political and commercial interest in perpetuating this false premise. Our government through its research grants has a significant impact on the thinking of these “warming scientists.” He goes on to say, “it’s become almost an industry, as a consequence of this professional misconduct by government advisors around the world.” Interestingly, there are instruments that exist that measure the ocean temperatures around the world (ARGO Buoy System with 3,200 buoys) that do not support the earth warming theory. Additionally, the ERBC satellites data has shown that as the earth’s surface periodically warms, it gives off more heat. This is in direct opposition to the climate change models that predict a runaway condition. The climate change propaganda is a hoax. Do your own research as I have.

Conservatives (i.e. right-wingers) trust proven scientific facts and theory, not artificial intelligence of computers programmed to report imaginary results to support a predetermined agenda.

The IPCC report published in 2007 reported that developing countries would need $100 billion a year to implement green politics. Based on crass science, man-made climate change has grown into an industry of interest groups, lobbyists, litigators, impact assessors, bureaucratic mobs and liberal politicians who take advantage of the gullible for their $100 billion.

IPCC also reported that the Himalayan glaciers would disappear by 2035. The United Kingdom climate scientists squelched any dissent from scientific researchers who disagreed with them. Do we hear any comment from the United Nations on the report by a group of scientists from The Heartland Institute in Chicago The Heartland Institute released a 1,062-page report, which found that higher carbon dioxide concentrations and rising temperatures are causing “no net harm to the global environment or to human health.”

The institute also found that increasing carbon dioxide levels produces a beneficial effect on plants including important food crops and to animals and human health.

The thinking of global warming alarmism is comparable to a crazy guy heading full steam ahead over a cliff while putting all his attention on trying to correct bad radio reception.

There are a number of threats many times more serious than an increase in the plant fertilizer - CO2. Here are some.

(1) The threat of an asteroid. The question is not if, but when this will happen. In the past an asteroid wiped out about 90 percent of life on earth, and another hit could destroy the human race.

(2) A solar flare. Again, the question is not if, but when. In 1859 we were hit by one that knocked out telegraph systems all over America and Europe. We are totally unprepared for another event like this, which would create chaos and destruction.

(3) A magnetic pulse created by an atomic explosion in our atmosphere by a rogue nation would produce similar results.

(4) Nuclear missiles headed our way. This can be overcome by a missile defense envisioned by Reagan.

Future generations will look back on our judgment, and by comparison the flat-earth people of the Middle Ages will look pretty good.

Global-warming Hoax Unraveling — Someone Tell Obama

The global-warming agenda is increasingly being revealed for the scam it is. There was the Climategate scandal of 2009, in which “scientists” at the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit were conspiring to suppress data that contradicted their global-warming agenda; there was the British judge who ruled, in a lawsuit to ban Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth from UK government schools, that the movie contained nine significant errors; there was the revelation that the claim that 97 percent of scientists agreed with the AGW (man-caused global warming) thesis was bunk. Now a mainstream publication, the UK’s Telegraph, has published a scathing denunciation of warmist propaganda.

Citing information from Steven Goddard’s blog Real Science, Christopher Booker writes:

Goddard shows how, in recent years, NOAA’s [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s] US Historical Climatology Network (USHCN) has been “adjusting” its record by replacing real temperatures with data “fabricated” by computer models. They’re lying.

If they were Pinocchio, their collective nose would be the size of our national debt. If they were shepherds, they could be a whole boys’ school that cried wolf. Despite this, Western pseudo-elites are still running around like Chicken Little.

For example, while Iraq becomes an Islamic state, Russia moves on Ukraine, China angles to be the world’s hegemon, and the United States is in moral freefall, Barack Obama gives a commencement speech at the University of California, Irvine, condemning climate-change “deniers” (translation: people in touch with reality). He also recently commended New Zealand prime minister John Key for being a fellow Chicken Little in his “crusade” against climate change, and Obama’s EPA continues to unconstitutionally enforce regulations designed to reduce carbon emissions, even though calling CO2 “carbon” is a lot like calling H2O “hydrogen.”

Of course, Obama and Key have much company in their hen house. Former treasury secretary Hank Paulson, for instance, recently wrote the following in the New York Times (hat tip: Thomas Lifson):

The irony of this is that even if the AGW thesis were correct, there would be little we could do about it. First, China and India — which together boast 36 percent of the world’s population — are rapidly building coal-fired power plants. Any Western reduction in CO2 will be dwarfed by these behemoths’ increases alone. Add to this other CO2-happy developing nations and Russia, and the fruitlessness of the uniquely Western climate-change obsession becomes apparent.

Second, there are scientists who believe that AGW is a reality, but said long ago that it was too late to do anything about it, anyway. So are we cooked? Now the good news.

Whatever the cause, there’s no reason to be afraid of the big bad climate change.

Not if it’s in the direction of rising mercury, that is.

Contrary to the doom-and-gloom rhetoric, it seems a warmer planet’s benefits far outweigh its downsides. Like eating? Note that greater temperatures probably mean more arable land. In addition, higher CO2 levels increase plant yields 30-plus percent across species; this begets better crops. This is why botanists pump the gas into their greenhouses, mind you. It’s why the age of the dinosaurs was one of dense foliage — CO2 levels were five to 10 times what they are today. The gas is not a pollutant. It’s plant food.

Yet more denialist crud.
When will these fools learn to tell the difference between weather and climate? Global Warming leads to wilder swings in weather, and that translates as cold events too!

There was a time when the waters surrounding Florida were 300 feet lower and another when they were 100 feet higher. The Earth was completely or almost completely covered with snow and ice during the Cryogenian period while during another time the snow and ice were virtually gone. There have been four or five major ice ages and numerous minor ones; there are 100,000-year glacial periods followed by 12,000-year interglacials (approximations) and 1,500-year cycles of heating and cooling within them. Climate is no more stable than are people.

Speaking of which, there’s a philosophical point to be made here. The liberal climate alarmists are the first to say that humans are just animals, just part of nature like an amoeba. If this is true, however, wouldn’t we then just be another “natural” factor in naturally occurring climate change?

At most, though, we appear a negligible factor. This raises a question: Why won’t Obama, Gore, Paulson, and the other Chicken Littles fly the coop of climate fear?

One reason is that everyone needs something to give his life meaning, and, absent true faith, an environmental crusade in Gaia’s name perhaps best fits the bill. This means that, for some, leaving the Church of Warmism is like a jihadist leaving Islam. Related to this is that when you’ve devoted a good part of your life and your passion and energy to a cause, it’s hard to admit you’re wrong.

But there’s another reason. Many individuals and companies, such as those producing ethanol, are profiting via doomsday prophesying. For instance, Al Gore — perhaps one of history’s most shameless con-men — “could become [the] world's first carbon billionaire,” reported The Telegraph in 2009. This, not to mention all the climate-change grants governments give malleable scientists for “research.”

What this means is that, despite its unraveling, the climate-change con will be around for a while longer. But driven by a combination of naiveté (gullible followers), envy, and cash, at least we can say that the “green” movement has certainly earned its name.

Arctic Ice Sheet Grows By 920,000 Square Miles In A Year!

Well, it seems global warming skeptics have won another battle in the climate wars. The Arctic ice cap grew by 920,000 square miles since last year.  That’s a 60% increase in just one year.  So, with this development, can we say that Earth is undergoing a period of global cooling?  It’s ironic.  Global cooling is exactly what scientists said about the earth’s temperature in the 1970s.  The hypothesis was basis of the 1975 Newsweek article called “The Cooling World,” where it was suggested that we stock up of food stuffs for the pending shortages worldwide.  It never happened.

Additionally, on the wild weather front, we’ve had the quietest tornado season in sixty years.  Should we be surprised?  No.  Global temperatures have stagnated for the past sixteen years according to the UK Meteorological Office.  Yet, let’s look at the growth in the Arctic ice cap.

There are a few flaws to the article's logic.

Okay, the scientist may get what, perhaps 100 thousand, or may be even 200 thousand a year for doing their research for the government.  But thats nothing compared to billions and billions of profit interest from the world petroleum lobby, and mining lobby.  If anything, at the moment, money is not with the Climate change side, its the other side.   :)

2. The Heartland Institute in Chicago - the same group in the 90s worked with Philip Morris to question the cancerous risk of second hand smoking.   The same organization that accepts donations from big petroleum companies.  This institute is politically and financially biased.   

3. The IPCC report published in 2007 reported that developing countries would need $100 billion a year to implement green politics. Sure 100 billion for the entire world sound a really really big number to us mere mortals yeah?  But if you talk about the vested interest, lobbyists and bureaucratic mobs, then people from climate change denial camp win out straight.

And if you look at ExxonMobil - just one company, its "net" income alone for 2013 was 30 billion dollars - in one year.   So you tell me, where the 'vested interest' or 'money' lie. 

One can equally argue that the vested interest in the denial camp is taking advantage of gullible people 's ignorance, so they will continue to make huge profits at the cost of Earth's environment.

I don't think anyone is really disputing these things, they are not relevant to current discussion. Yes, the climate has changed in the past.

Whatever happened to... Global Cooling  ::)

Evidently some of you have never seen the chart showing that CO2 levels increase FOLLOWING global warming, rather than preceding global warming and causing it. The global warming believers faithfully disregard this and other evidence. We were at the end of a mini-ice age in the mid 1800s, that is why the Earth's climate has been getting warmer WELL before the internal combustion engine was invented.

The idea that AGW could be a hoax is ludicrous in the extreme. That so many people would participate and willfully hide the truth for near no benefit against powerful opponents defies rationality.

You can post all the denialist crud you want, it won't change the science.
The only viable question is whether humanity has contributed to the GW, the fact that it is happening is well established, whatever the cause.
Personally, I find that a moot question, we should be preparing to cope with the changes looming rather than wasting time and resources  attempting to halt the inevitable.

“Global warming” remains in the news, with varying opinions. However, as with any important issue, facts should determine opinions and policy. Credible scientific evidence establishes “global warming” is not occurring, nor is there any man-made threat through consumption of fossil fuels.

I find it absolutely amazing and depressing that there are still people out there believing the climate change hoax.

I think most reasonable people would agree that Al Gore and his movie “An Inconvenient Truth” was the catalyst that got things rolling and gave the movement a lot of energy. In 2007 Al Gore had his day in court. A British court said this: “An Inconvenient Truth” contains at least 11 material falsehoods.”

The 97 percent of scientists agreeing about climate change is a myth; it was based on an anonymous survey of thousands of scientists which was whittled down to about 75. The supposed leading authority on this issue has been The UN’s IPCC.

Since the very beginning, their predictions and climate models on temperatures, water levels and ice loss have been wrong. Their scientists have had to apologize for withholding contradictory information, misleading hockey stick graphs and are still in litigation about withheld emails.

The Earth has been around for billions of years, experiencing climate changes big and small, loud and quiet. Yet for some reason, with the miniscule amount of time we have been walking around on this planet, we are still supposed to be responsible for the climate; it defies common sense.

The amount of ingenuity, creativity and flat out brain power it takes to find, extract and produce energy in this country is an amazing feat which should be applauded and admired. The energy companies and the people they have working for them provide us with heat, transportation, defense, electricity and food on our shelves. We have the cleanest water and air we have had in decades and live in the most prosperous and free country ever.

Yet there are some people who just don’t care about the negative effects cap and trade type laws will have on not only us, but the disastrous effects it will have on people in developing and poverty stricken countries. Apparently the smug congratulations and air of superiority they feel with their fellow pseudo-intellectuals and wannabe-hippies is what’s really important in life.

For one, even if the earth was not warming, which it is, fossil fuels create pollution which affects huge numbers of people leading to early deaths via a variety diseases.

Credible basically means believable, you're using it to mean "buyable", as in only those whose "scientific opinions" are readily bought are disputing the science, you really should do basic homework before you accept such tripe as factual.

The ice surrounding the ship doesn't mean that Antarctica's not melting.

FoxNews.com reported that global warming deniers have poked fun at the scientists, highlighting the irony of climate change scientists being trapped in ice.

The hiatus period of 17 years 9 months is the farthest back one can go in the RSS satellite temperature record and still show a zero trend. According to the RSS satellite data, whose value for April 2014 is just in, the global warming trend in the 17 years 9 months since August 1996 is zero. The 212 months without global warming represents more than half the 423-month satellite data record, which began in January 1979. No one now in high school has lived through global warming.

All the global warming models and predictions were WRONG. So the theory is BS, and yet they still try to push it on us.

All science has mistakes miss interpretations and hypothesis involved with it that's why studies never end in most scientific fields that's how we learn more has been learnt through failure than success. However how many that was 2007 seven year later lots more has been learnt about GW since then.

Scientists at two of the world’s leading climate centres - NASA and NOAA - have been caught out manipulating temperature data to overstate the extent of the 20th century "global warming".

The evidence of their tinkering can clearly be seen at Real Science, where blogger Steven Goddard has posted a series of graphs which show "climate change" before and after the adjustments.

When the raw data is used, there is little if any evidence of global warming and some evidence of global cooling. However, once the data has been adjusted - ie fabricated by computer models -  20th century 'global warming' suddenly looks much more dramatic.

This is especially noticeable on the US temperature records. Before 2000, it was generally accepted - even by climate activists like NASA's James Hansen - that the hottest decade in the US was the 1930s.

As Hansen himself said in a 1989 report:

Fact: People believe what they want to believe. The hysteria that has been created over carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and the current and future effects is more hypothesis and theory than truth.

Fact: The earth has always created its own carbon emissions, ex. volcanoes, wild fire, and rotting vegetation just to name a few and does so for its ability to sustain the life upon it. Is too much of a good thing bad? Maybe or maybe not, but probably.

Fact: The world’s population is now at 7.2 billion people, was at 3 billion in 1950 and is projected to be 8 billion in ten years. Of the 7.2 billion, 4.4 percent live in the U.S.A., 19 percent in China and 17.4 percent in India. My point here is the fact that it appears we are the only county, or one of very few countries that is concerned with emissions and climate change. Maybe if we can show them the profit of becoming involved with our emissions credit scam they will get onboard.

Fact: Money talks. If not, I believe it’s a battle we can’t win. As for global warming (climate change ) I’m pretty sure this planet can handle it. She’s been through earthquakes, floods, drought, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift and solar storms. She’s suffered many hits by comets, meteors and asteroids. Oh, and climate change more times than we could ever count. We as temporary inhabitants of this world can only destroy the life upon it including ourselves. Maybe once mother Earth has had her fill of garbage, plastic, alloys and chemicals produced by man, she will just shake us off like a bad case of fleas. It’s time to get busy living or get busy dying. Be good, and live happy.

Before Mike Selmer gets in further over his head, he needs to know that Gary Linford is an MIT graduate with a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Utah. Thanks to Dr. Linford for injecting some real science into this discussion.

But the facts of the AGW debate are very easy to understand. In the early 1970s, the ideologically-driven Stephen Schneider et al. were warning of catastrophic global cooling (the 30 years from the 1940s to the 1970s were cooler than the previous 30 years), only to have to switch sides from catastrophic cooling to catastrophic warming when the global climate again started to grow warmer. This warming period lasted 30 years until the mid-1990s when the global temperature leveled to where it remains today, 18 years later. The AGW hypothetical asserts that global temperature rises as the atmospheric CO2 level increases. This hypothesis is obviously false since CO2 levels continue to increase unabated while global temperature has remained static for 18 years.

Mike, you are on the wrong side of this issue — there is absolutely no (none, zero, nada) empirical evidence to support the AGW hypothesis. If there was, you and yours would tell us about it.

You can’t provide the evidence because it doesn’t exist.

Saucon Valley School Board was not performing proper due diligence when it approved the questionable science book, "Environmental Science," by David Heithaus and Karen Arms.

In The Morning Call article, "Global warming heats up meeting," school board member Bryan Eichfeld objected to the science book on the basis of the teaching method and context presented in the book. In response, the remaining board members could only attack the residency qualifications of Mr. Eichfeld's climate expert, Paul Saunders, rather than argue the validity of the content of the textbook. This is a classic argument by intimidation as described by philosopher Ayn Rand.

In raising objections, Eichfeld invited Bethlehem resident Paul Saunders to speak to the board and present a 14-page paper he wrote dismissing passages in the book.

In the end, Saunders was allowed to speak. "'Environmental Science' does not take a scientific approach ... it has serious misrepresentations of CO2 levels ... and there hasn't been a global warming trend since 1996,'' he said.

When Mr. Eichfeld gave a rational solution to give the students more information, the remaining board members refused to even give the children a choice, and instead they will indoctrinate the children with one-sided politically motivated information. This is not a proper way to educate our youth.

#20 According to the U.S. Geological Survey, "a volume equivalent to two-thirds of the water in Lake Erie" has been permanently drained from the Ogallala Aquifer since 1940, and it is currently being drained at a rate of approximately 800 gallons per minute.

#21 Once upon a time, the Ogallala Aquifer had an average depth of approximately 240 feet, but today the average depth is just 80 feet. In some areas of Texas, the water is already completely gone.

#22 Approximately 40 percent of all rivers and approximately 46 percent of all lakes in the United States have become so polluted that they are are no longer fit for human use.

#23 Because of the high cost and the inefficient use of energy, desalination is not considered to be a widely feasible solution to our water problems at this time...

In his letter of May 19, Gerald Cavanaugh makes one false statement after another. Self-anointed spokesmen for "the Environment" appear to have such a weak case for global energy rationing (the Kyoto Treaty) that they always resort to ridicule, innuendo, name-calling, childish pranks, and outright falsehoods.

Their buddies no doubt spiked the petition with the forged signature of one of the Spice Girls. The global warmers would rather talk about her, or about the 452 American scientists of unknown qualifications who signed an unspecified statement from the Union of Concerned Scientists. They don't like to mention the more than 16,000 American scientists, two-thirds of whom have an advanced degree in science, who signed the following statement:

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan, in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing, or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

The review article distributed with the petition is heavily referenced to primary observational data and the peer-reviewed literature. It was written by four highly competent scientists, two of whom have published extensively in the field of climate change. No funding was received from corporate interests. Skeptics are invited to read for themselves. To date, no valid technical objections have been raised by serious scientists.

Mr. Cavanaugh is right about one thing: there is a grave cause for worry. But that cause is the Kyoto Treaty and the global economic havoc it would wreak, with devastating effects on humankind and other living things.

Jeff Glendening, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Kansas, was absolutely right about the “harmful practice of meddling in the energy market” (“Stop subsidies,” June 27 Letters to the Editor). He cited credits for “ethanol; for ‘green’ technologies like wind, solar and biodiesel; for nuclear power; for electric vehicles; for hydrogen fuel cells; and for other forms of energy that have been grazing at the taxpayer buffet for years.”

He forgot one. How about the subsidies on oil and gas? With oil exceeding $100 a barrel, the folks in that business hardly need a subsidy.

I’m sure Glendening agrees with me. Or does that shoe fit too tightly for Americans for Prosperity?

Support nuclear

With our Earth running lower and lower on resources, our best option going into the future is in nuclear energy. Now, a lot of people see nuclear energy as “The Big, Bad Wolf” of energy. But one must look at the facts. This type of power is not as dangerous as it seems. There have only been a handful of nuclear power plant meltdowns in history, and the ones that did happen, happened in the mid 20th century before the technology that we have now was even close to being fathomable. The only meltdown that has happened in modern times was the Fukushima, and this was caused by natural disasters and not human error, insufficient technology or the plant being unsafe.

On a different note, the emissions of a nuclear power plant are simply steam and hot water. Both of these are completely safe for the environment and do not contribute towards global warming like coal powerplants. Overall, with these new guidelines being put in place for coal, why not think differently? I believe that if nuclear energy is given proper funding and attention it could solve the energy crisis. Rather than focus on a 30 percent reduction in emissions in 16 years, why not focus on a 100 percent reduction in emissions tomorrow?

In reference to the Sunday column by Paul Krugman, “The GOP’s punishment cure,” neither Krugman, the Democrats nor the Republicans have any understanding about the unemployment problem which the U.S. and all of the nations of the world are facing.

Since Earth is finite, the resources which Earth can provide humanity are finite. Therefore, Earth cannot supply the resources to permit an ever-growing human population to have an ever-growing number of jobs.

The unemployment problem is not caused by the monetary or political philosophy of either party. It is caused by the fact that humanity is attempting to maintain continued economic and population growth on the finite Earth, which is impossible.

Our failure to understand the fact that Earth is finite will lead to wars and the deaths of billions.

Obama is wrong on coal, and America is paying for it

The Obama administration is persisting in its unprecedented attempt to destroy an American industry, coal.

If successful, this will have grave consequences for the cost and reliability of the nation’s electrical supply and the 200,000 middle-class blue-collar workers involved in the industry.

Environmental Protection Agency records show that air quality has improved nationally by an average of 37 percent since 2000, with all categories bettering national standards. Nevertheless, arbitrary limits on power plant emissions have halted new coal plant construction. The Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign is the major player here, bankrolled by Michael Bloomberg and hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer.

Unfortunately, the complex business of power supply cannot be left to misguided visionaries. Coal-fired generation provides nearly half of the country’s base load. Unless 200 nuclear plants magically appear, these coal facilities must be replaced with natural gas at a cost to customers of over $600 billion.

Meanwhile, the renewable fad continues to bump up against reality. Last year California added 2,450 megawatts of non-dispatchable solar and wind, but utilities had to add nearly 4,000 megawatts of natural gas capacity to maintain grid reliability; seven solar plants have been suspended.

Ontario’s struggling attempt to replace coal plants with wind farms has made it “an island of high-priced energy” in North America. The province is losing a billion dollars a year exporting surplus wind power.

Now the Sierra Club is suing to block coal exports from our ports, denying the Third World poor the advantages of affordable energy. Sadly, this pretty much says it all.

It is important to understand that U.S. power plants produce a scant four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, compared to China and India, which together emit more than 20 percent of all GHG emissions.

Shuttering all U.S. coal plants would have a negligible effect on the environment: equivalent to decreasing sea level rise by less than the thickness of three sheets of paper.

That's because the industry has put its money where its mouth is in making investments to use coal more cleanly and efficiently, and U.S. power plants are leading the way in developing clean-coal technologies.

Despite these hard truths, however, the Environmental Protection Agency’s is mandating new carbon regulations that if enacted will cost Americans up to $8.8 billion in 2030.

It seems that the only sacrifices being offered will come at the unwilling expense of American industry, American workers and American families.

Even in the face of mounting dissatisfaction with his climate agenda stateside and a cold shoulder from his fellow world leaders, Obama is marching ahead.

He's wholly ignored the industry’s $118 billion investment, so far, and another $27 billion through 2016, to reduce emissions at U.S. power plants.

Likewise, his EPA's proposed New Source Performance Standards, released last year, place a de facto ban on the construction of new cutting-edge clean-coal plants; jeopardizing America's leadership in developing Carbon Capture and Storage technology and ceding an estimated $1 trillion in economic benefits resulting from the technology to countries like China.

Meanwhile, the demand for coal continues to grow globally, particularly among burgeoning economic powers.

China’s percent of world coal consumption is expected to increase from 47 percent in 2010 to 57 percent in 2025, and its economic and industrial activity has been synchronous with this growth.

And Germany, which quickly reversed its path after a costly experiment with over-reliance on renewable fuel sources, is now building new coal power plants to restore affordable, reliable electricity to the country.

Both China’s and Germany’s leaders recognize the great potential of low-cost energy from coal in fueling their future growth, and both are leading the way in developing technologies that will harness this potential — all while achieving clean energy leadership and protecting their economic interests.

The American people have spoken time and again about their priorities: creating jobs, rebuilding our economy, creating a meaningful legacy for the future.

A higher percentage of people are living “outside the workforce” than any time in the past 50 years. The president has done a lot. Remember the stimulus? Think Solyndra. Remember his tax policy? Huge drag on the economy. Remember Obamacare? (I bet you do!) Extra huge drag on the economy. Remember his energy policy? Another drag on the economy. Remember environmental policy? Yep.

An objective person might believe that we would have been significantly better off if President Obama had gone on vacation in 2009 and kept his Blackberry in his pocket.

Doing nothing is better than doing all the wrong things. Better for everybody!

PS... The people who are still trying to convince you that this is all George Bush’s fault count on you being stupid! Don’t be.

The most major factors now driving Global Economy are -
a) Demographics - primarily via the rapid Aging & slowing Growth of the Population.

c) Climate Change - primarily via Global Warming, But also via some areas becoming less wet (causing more severe droughts) and other areas becoming more wet (causing more sever floods), all of which is driving Agriculture towards lower Food Production & some areas towards a lack of Drinking water to support their growing Population.

A combination of "all of the above", plus the "obsessive compulsive disorder" of ALL POLITICIANS to look after their own interests NOW & those of "their supporters", to the detriment what is good for the longer term interests of the entire Public, ha seen Global Debt spiral beyond redemption.

Fact 5 -    
These factors have actually been lining up for quite some time and the combined logical/likely outcome are now pretty much set in concrete, so whilst the final outcomes MAY be realigned "a little", IF REAL ACTIONS ARE TAKEN, it seems unlikely that the Political arena (in general) is actually going to take actions that are remotely likely to change the real direction of events.

So, I suggest we relax & enjoy ourselves, whilst that is possible AND WE AWAIT FOR THE STRETCHING RUBBER BAND TO FINALLY BREAK AND WE WILL THEN START TO REALISE WHAT HAS ACTUALLY HAPPENED & WHAT WILL HAPPEN!

M.A. Khan, M.D., Pawtucket: In response to James Jones’s June 29 letter (“If only Gore had won”): I also have often wondered what actions Al Gore would have taken if he was the president during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on our country, with al-Qaida cells proliferating in the United States and Iraqi President Saddam Hussein having already kicked out all U.N. inspectors under the Clinton-Gore administration.

Mr. Jones does not need a time machine to know the answers. All he needs to do is to look at what our country and the world is going through under President Obama.

By the way, after having lived for nearly the past eight decades in four different countries, I have personally not experienced any significant changes in our overall global climate. We still have our four seasons, some days colder or hotter than others, storms, rains, floods, and earthquakes, some worse than others.

And finally, Mr. Jones’s heroes, the likes of Jimmy Carter, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Gore, Joseph Biden and Barack Obama are plenty rich enough and getting richer.

Consensus no replacement for science

Margaret Snyder wrote an excellent Your View, "Science gets corrupted when scientists can't raise questions."

Many of us have been trying for some time to get folks to take a step back and realize how much questionable information is out there.

Information without the burden of proof, accepted as fact and used as a basis for conducting one's life, can be harmful. So much of what we once thought was true has turned out to be fabricated for political or financial gain. This would be the case with the idea that man caused climate change.

Snyder reminds us of the scientific method, which many scientists and some well-meaning but misguided folks want to replace with consensus. Prove a hypothesis by trying to disprove it, rather than reaching a conclusion first just to keep the funding flowing.

The Environmental Protection Agency, at the behest of President Barack Obama, is causing financial harm to this country. Referencing unsettled science as a basis for regulating how we produce energy is despicable and is destroying a multitude of present and future jobs. How much more harm can the intellectually lazy cause in the remaining 2 1/2 years?

    Earlier this year, global warming was blamed for the ‘irreversible retreat’ of west Antarctic glaciers.
    But now scientists claim that warming of the planet is in fact behind a paradoxical growth in South Pole sea ice.
    The comments come as Antarctica’s sea ice set a record this week, reaching 815,448 square miles (1,312,000 square km) of ice above its normal range.
    Scientists believe the shift is caused by water melting from beneath the Antarctic ice shelves and re-freezing back on the surface.
    ‘The primary reason for this is the nature of the circulation of the Southern Ocean — water heated in high southern latitudes is carried equatorward, to be replaced by colder waters upwelling from below, which inhibits ice loss,’ Mark Serreze, director of the National Snow and Ice Data Centre, told Harold Ambler at Talking About the Weather.
    However, as reported in a separate blog post by Mr Ambler, Nasa scientist Walt Meier said that growing Antarctic sea ice coverage is less significant a measure than declining Arctic sea ice coverage when assessing climate change.
    Last year, a team from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute found that the fresh water melting from the Antarctic ice sheets had a relatively low density compared to the denser salty seawater.
    This means that the water accumulates and freezes in the top layer of the ocean during the summer months.
    Surrounded by North America, Greenland and Eurasia, the Arctic ice cap floats on the ocean, not land. It has lost a large amount of its older, thicker sea ice over the last 30 years, making it more vulnerable to the warming trend.

Global warming is a complete fraud and a huge scam and swindle. There is no global warming and never has been.

Since 1998 (16 years), there has been no global warming based on a best fit to the NASA satellite global temperature data. But did you know that from 1978, when satellite measurements were first made until 1998 (20 years) there also was no global warming? That’s 36 years of the last 36 years with no global warming, none.

Ah, but what happened in 1998? In 1998, the Microwave Sounding Unit which measures temperature from space was replaced by the Advanced MSU. The two averages, 1978-1998 and 1998 to 2014 are suddenly separated by 0.49 degrees F. Global warming is a calibration error between the two machines. It isn’t real at all. You might notice that the difference is 0.49 degrees F not 1 degree as commonly reported.

Government data: US in decade-long cooling period

New government data suggests that the average temperature in the United States has cooled by approximately 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit during the last decade.

The statistics come courtesy of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which for nearly a decade has been collecting weather data from 114 different stations administered by the US Climate Reference Network, or USCRN, across the country. Combined, the weather stations are among the most state-of-the-art and advanced in the nation.

Global warming (i.e, the warming since 1977) is over. The minute increase of anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere (0.008%) was not the cause of the warming—it was a continuation of natural cycles that occurred over the past 500 years.

There has been no global warming

It is well-known that there has been no measurable global warming for nearly 18 years, a fact not disputed by even the most ardent believers in the role of carbon dioxide, whose atmospheric concentration has continued to rise as the global temperature stays flat.

Many climate scientists have recently achieved popularity, some would say notoriety, by linking nonexistent global warming to national security threats, drought, floods, sea level rise and then proposing exorbitantly expensive solutions to mitigate these imaginary effects.

Politicians friendly to the environmental left have responded with regulatory and wealth-transferring schemes that neither the developed nor undeveloped world can afford.
