Title: Merchant Ivory Post by bogarde73 on Apr 9th, 2014 at 3:12pm
I was listening to this doco on BBC Radio 3 about the legendary filmmakers and, while I knew they had made some of my favourite movies, I didn't realise what a long story it was.
They produced more than 40 films over about 50 years, with the same team involved to the end: Ismael Merchant as Producer, James Ivory as Director and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala as Scriptwriter. The ones I've seen and loved are: Howard's End Room with a View Remains of the Day Feast of July I believe some of them didn't get a major release, which has nothing to do with their quality of course, and are probably hard to find on DVD. They used such great actors of course. One I'd like to see is Maurice with Hugh Grant. Also one that James Mason was in, Autobiography of a Princess. Be interested to hear if anybody has seen others. |

Just an afterthought, I was surprised to see a Passage to India was not one of their movies.
It's just up their street: the book by E M Forster and an Indian theme. |
