I don't believe in 'equality', as proposed by leftists and collectivists - which is a philosophy of theft.

I believe in my right to create something.

And i believe in my right to choose to share [or to not share] what i create, with others who have less than i have.

I do not believe in the right of others, who have less than i have, to take [to steal] what i have created.

Poverty does not justify theft.

To live in a world where poverty does justify theft, is to live in a world, filled with confusion and violence.

Poverty does not justify LAWLESSNESS.

Chris Hedges......

"So we have a popular uprising through the Occupy movement where people pour into public spaces to express legitimate grievances--student debt, the next bubble to go down, $1 trillion in debt, which we now saw, courtesy of our Congress, debt rates, you know, interest rates will actually go up in a couple of years, I mean, more than if they'd just taken it from a bank. It's insane. And meanwhile the Federal Reserve is buying $85 billion a month worth of junk bonds and giving money at virtually zero percent interest to Goldman Sachs. I mean, it's insane. The failure to address the mortgage and foreclosure crisis, the failure to address the chronic unemployment, underemployment, which--I mean, half of the country now lives in poverty, including the working poor, or near poverty.

And what is the response? The response is to physically shut down the encampments, suspend unemployment benefits, cut food stamps, close things like Head Start. It's crazy. And that's what happens when you have an elite that is that unplugged, and which our elite is. So they will push and push and push myopically out of ignorance until something erupts. And that's exactly where we're headed."

They can come from 3 obvious places/sources;

Somehow, I don't think so.

The PP is a medal and $10k. Hardly a fortune.

Yes. Joe Kennedy had a very sleazy background. Not only was he a Nazi sympathiser, he was also a bootlegger with close links to organised crime.

There is evidence his Mafia connections helped his son win the Presidency.

What on earth are you trying to say? You're all over the place again.  How do your comments about the Kennedy's detract from what Hedges was saying.  And why's he supposed to give his Pulitzer prize away?  What convoluted confusion led you to that conclusion?

Oh you are a cantankerous old fool aren't you.  The fact that you singled it out and quoted it; took the time and made the effort to comment on it and then even likened it to something worthy of a Pulitzer Prize betrays your true sentiments about my turn of phrase. Me thinks you protest too much.  But relax, its just one of those things that happen every once in a while when the words just fall into place. No big deal. It happens to all of us on occasion, though perhaps not you.  You're too focused on your anger to allow us even the slightest glimpse of a softer side.

This is why unfettered capitalism will fail once again and hopefully for the last time.

A cap of $117,000 for multi billionaires......how ludicrous.

900 wealthiest Americans exempted from paying 2014 Social Security past Jan. 2nd

A small, elite group of US citizens has already met their 2014 financial obligation for Social Security two days into the New Year, and will no longer be required to contribute any of their income to the federal program.

Nearly all working Americans will continue to pay the social security tax through the duration of 2014. The 900 wealthiest, however, have fulfilled their responsibility for the whole year on Thursday by earning $117,000 – the maximum total social security is allowed to take from an individual income each year - on the first and second days of the month.

Democrats successfully raised the cap from $106,800 to its current level in 2009. Unfortunately, for the millions of Americans who rely on the program much of the political discussion in recent years has focused on slashing benefits.

President Obama – who along with the Democratic Party has positioned himself as a protector of the elderly and disabled – recently proposed a change to how Social Security benefits are calculated.

The new measure, known as Chained CPI, would cut $230 billion in benefits over ten years by gradually shaving dollars off a retiree's income as they grow older. Someone who started receiving benefits at age 62, for instance, would lose roughly one month's income by the time they turn 92, when that money would certainly be much more valuable.

And the income from the book sales?

He's written 9 books and apparently some have been best sellers (which means sales of around 5,000 copies a week to qualify).
I doubt any of them were given away, or priced at less than $20. That's a LOT of money.

Clearly you have very little understanding of what socialism is. Its not about charity or about anything you mention in your ignorant tirade (though the unfortunate people you refer to would do much better under a socialist system then the miserable way they are treated today).  Its about winning our communities back from your one dimensional view of life (money) and fairly rewarding those who are the true creators of value in our society (the 99%). by rewarding (on a personal level), the child, friend, employee, neighbour or stranger who si struggling bravely (IN SILENCE ;)), one can do something to make the world a better place.

for politicians to continually only look after the needs of the "squeaky wheel" is what got us to this state of a helpless, weak, and ungrateful society in the first place  ;)

Myself and many others like me have been instrumental in causing change and it's people like us that will be thanked by future generations......for at least trying to give them the same quality of life we have.

You hate Abbott and you hate Newman. You hate everything they stand for and the way they are running things. You have even brought Nazi comparisons into it. Yet, here they are in power. Apparently every day making this place worse and it won't be long before we are a fascist backwards undeveloped hole.

If you and people like you are really causing change, then you seem to be changing everything into the very things you hate. Either that or your keyboard heroics has done fck all.

If Pansi was really causing change that she thinks will lead people of the future to thank her for her work, then things should be changing in her preferable direction. Instead, things are changing in a way that she doesn't want. In other words she has done fck all but cry on the Internet and has archived nothing.

See!!! That wasn't so hard. You just need to take a little time to collect your thoughts and then type them out in an ordered way.  As a consequence your restatement of what you were trying to say is much better. Still wrong you understand but at least its logical.  Unfortunately, for your argument, however, the bit I have highlighted in your post does not accord with the facts (an error you seem to commonly make, if one is to believe the charge that is almost universally made against you. And of course if one is to accept that you are in fact Mr Longy, which again I do not believe is seriously in doubt). As you will see in even mainstream media, they are reporting a noticeable renewed interest in socialism amongst the younger generation. A phenomena which I think we can safely attribute in no small measure to Pansi for concluding each of her posts with the now legendary battle cry "BOTR NOW!!!! "

Pathology:
1. the science or the study of the origin, nature, and course of diseases.
2. the conditions and processes of a disease.
3. any deviation from a healthy, normal, or efficient condition.

Is there someone here who thinks being rich is to be sick in some way? Rhetorical question.

So it's logical to wreck the great barrier reef or to pollute our water supply through CSG fracturing for short term gain, that mostly feathers the pockets of nations other than our own?

It's logical to be the nation that almost holds the record for flora and fauna distinction?

It's logical to ruin your own planet beyond repair?

It's logical to arrest five men for having ice creams with their families?

Thankfully, the end of growth and capitalism might be our saving grace.

but crazy leftards arent going to fix any of these things.
with their crazy big government, big spending denticare, gonski, disability care, social welfare and massive public service spends, they HAVE to have economic growth , even more so than a small government, small immigration, small business conservative government.

that zany guy rudd said so himself....he believes in a BIG australia, 40 million or so,  milne and those zany greens want open borders and lots and lots of new mouths to feed, requiring even more growth and population expansion.

if you want to save the reef, if you want to save the environment  then get rid of this monster that is canberra and all its ludicrous waste(and lust for growth and power) and we can become a sustainable vibrant rural decentralised nation.

i have plenty of time for true greens who live in the bush sustainably. i have a zero tolerance policy for urban trendy green and socialist hypocrites who want all the trappings of the capitalist system and then want to expand the roles and responsibilities of government.  if you cant see that these two ideas are pulling in opposite directions , you are truly lost.

as an example, one socialist anna bligh approved more new coal leases than any previous premier of qld and started work on 3 new ports to haul coal thru the barrier reef. why?. because the stupid bitch ran up 90 billion in debt on socialist garbage and lost the triple A rating and had to find a new source of income.

small government, small social welfare spend and we can leave a smaller footprint....you MUST agree with this???

Now, now, aquascoot, calm down your allowing your emotions to affect your logic. And it shows when you just assert things without a shred of reasoning to explain how you arrive at your conclusions.

How will this work? You don't explain it, you just assert it. It's like some old drunk whose had a belly full and goes off expecting nothing more then his rage to make his case. Its useless to everybody, let alone those who are trying to find genuine solutions to the mess the world has gotten itself in.

aquascoot wrote on Jan 9th, 2014 at 7:02am:

OH for goodness sake. How? Tell us!!! Don't just assert it. Tell us how you get to that conclusion. You do know govts can do more then 1 thing at a time. You can have an education policy at the same time that you have a defence (orwellian for war) policy.  Of course what you're really saying is that the govt can't protect the environment while it does other things that are low on your priorities. Saying we cant have environmental protection and do gonski and disability care at the same time is like saying we cant protect the environment AND spend billions fighting a war in Afghanistan and Iraq or we cant protect the environment AND give YOU tax cuts, tax exceptions and a lower tax rate then everyone else. So do you understand aquascoot.  All you're doing is asserting that you have different priorities to us and then claiming that we're "really lost" if we cant see how implementing your priorities and protecting the environment "are pulling in the opposite direction". (Oh and just as an aside when the polls showed over and over that a huge majority of Australian's wanted a resources tax to help fund government programs it was your side of politics went troppo). But if my guessing at what you're trying to say is incorrect why don't you go ahead and fill in the gaps and explain how you get from your assertions to your conclusion.

Here, let me show you how.  (1) Unregulated capitalism is a system of economic activity that runs in the opposite direction of environmental protection (That was Spartacus' assertion and now comes Spartacus' reasons, the bit you always miss out). Capitalism produces and uses up resources for profit instead of for what the community needs and what is in the interests of the community.  Therefore Capitalism (and especially unregulated capitalism) will happily frac and happily risk transporting oil through the Great Barrier reef because this does make profits even though it is not in the medium to short term interests of the environment and thereby the community. There, you starting to follow how logical argument (instead of emotions" flows.  Lets try another example shall we. (2) Unregulated capitalism runs in the opposite direction of environmental protection because history has shown over and over and over that capitalism will do everything it can to maximize profits even if that means not telling the world that their nuclear power plant is leaking 300 tons of radioactive water into the sea every day; even if that mean taking short cuts and spilling unfathomable amounts of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and rendering it a dead zone. And this is just as much a problem with small business and farmers (who are less visible) as it is with big business. Clearly more regulation not less regulation is whats needed from an environmental point of view.  Lets tray another shall we. (3) Unregulated capitalism runs in the opposite direction of environmental protection because the nature of capitalism is to encourage more and more consumerism which leads to the burning of more and more fossil fuel, more and more depletion and pollution of the waterways and the land, lower quality, less durable throw away goods and more and more global warming (just to mention a very few of the detrimental impacts. And its getting worse. Why? Because capitalism says if you dont grow bigger this year then you did last year you're a failure.  The recipe for self destruction. See how its done.

Oh and just one last thing; anna bligh a socialist?  You really have lost it.  Clearly your definition of socialism is anything that falls in your ever growing list of things that you happen not to like and are are opposed to.

as an example, one socialist anna bligh approved more new coal leases than any previous premier of qld and started work on 3 new ports to haul coal thru the barrier reef. why?. because the stupid bitch ran up 90 billion in debt on socialist garbage and lost the triple A rating and had to find a new source of income.

small government, small social welfare spend and we can leave a smaller footprint....you MUST agree with this???

Hockey loves big govt! Direct action and all dat brah  :-?
