It doesn't seem to work.

Image no more than 100px ~ Correct

.jpg format ~ Correct

Chose the image handling's recommendation for forums ~ Correct.

Well, at least you understand the language.  I have no avatar here because I have no idea how to.  Tried and lost it as soon as the stupid bloody buzz words came along.

What do I need*.  A bloody degree in nuclear physics!

Somehow I managed to insert the avatar I've always had ~ a sheer fluke.

The problem is not getting a new avatar from my hard drive to the input address bar in Ozpolitic, but getting an image here from Photobucket.

Well you need to resize your image before you can use it.  First you need to download it to your computer, then you can either use a simple image manipulation program to resize, or you can use an online resource like this one:

http://pixlr.com/

Then get into your profile and upload it. Let me know which stage you have problems with.

I already resized it using Irfanview.

Attach it to your next post, and we'll see if it meets the specs. It should be no larger that 100kb for a start.

Herbert,

Save the avatar you want to your computer ... say the desktop so you can easily find it, then go into your profile and under options/avatar area "browse" for the file and add it. I think you also have to tick the little box.  Your computer information will NOT show up.

Aussie,

You can do the same.  It is not rocket science.  ;)

Thank you, neferti, but ... the whole purpose of image hosting websites is to protect the user from having his confidential folders and files rifled through by snoopy lurkers.

I certainly wouldn't use an avatar or load an attachment from MY computer if I thought someone could snoop.  They can't.

Anyway.  Go to your Photo thing, find the picture you want and copy the link (www. etc) into the avatar area on this site. That should work. Otherwise just do what I suggested.  Nobody can snoop into your computer, it doesn't even show the file name ... check my avatar information ... just says "neferti.jpg" ...

Thanks Neferti, You're a more patient teacher than me.

Herbert, you see that attachment that Neferti resized for Aussie. Right click on it and view image. You'll see that it only gives an address at ozpolitic.

Actually if you take the picture yourself and your camera is st up with your details, JPG files can contain EXIF information, but unless you have your details on your camera, there is little point in removing that.  Your privacy is ok if you just attach it.

(for anybody who is interested:)
http://regex.info/exif.cgi

At that site, you can read the exif data on a jpeg file. Normally it will give you the date and time the picture was taken, the make of the camera, the exposure settings, and if you have a good camera with GPS, the GPS location.

I still cannot get that avatar up.  I've done the view image info stuff, inserted the url in the relevant profile box, hit the update (or whatever button) and.............nada.

Are you quite sure? Have you tested it?

Image hosting sites operate as proxies in order to protect your files from prying eyes.

I did that, and it didn't work. That's why I put up the post.

****************

Post Script: Success at last.

The problem: The image hosting site didn't have the 'http:' set as one of the defaults.
