Title: Why is this Australia's best kept secret?
Post by Herbert on Nov 17th, 2013 at 7:17pm
We are looking at Australia becoming the second biggest oil producer in the world ... so why is the media so quiet about it?

And ... what's the betting that Australia will give the majority share to overseas countries that will leave us with peanuts?

Bonanza

this is an old story that for some reason pops up every year .... I don't think there is any truth to it.

No, its true. The shale oil is there in vast quantities. The isssue is that the cost of extracting it is enormous and currently uneconomical.

Nice try, but incorrect, Ian.

Lots of overseas investors would make it highly viable as a profitable concern.

But .. very sadly ... HERE's a short article explaining why (as usual) Australians wouldn't benefit a nickel from the whole deal even if it was up and running as the second largest oil deposit after sordid Arabia.

Especially as the simian wants to repeal the “Mining Tax” that would ensure the country would benefit from it, perhaps setting up a huge sovereign wealth fund to benefit the country even after the oil ran out.

But maybe we should move away from fossil fuels to clean energy sources, eh?

I'm all for nuclear power generators. All our energy needs can easily and cheaply be supplied by nuclear rods heating water into steam to drive generators.

We've got the uranium deposits at Rum Jungle.

But then again, we have enough suitable valleys in water-shed areas to supply all of the nation's energy needs through hydro-electricity dams.

The problem always is that the idiots who run Australia allow the Greens to dictate policy on these matters.

Rum Jungle? Petty cash compared to Olympic Dam, “the largest known single deposit of uranium in the world.” (Wikki)

But, yeah a Gen 3/4 breeder reactor, cooled by seawater yet high enough not to get hit by a tsunami and in a tectonically stable area—the SA craton would be good, near Pt Augusta for infrastructure reasons.

You're speakin' my language now, George.

Once again we find Australia exporting yet another useful commodity (uranium) to a score of countries around the world who are benefiting from their nuclear power reactors while we ourselves sit on our arse in terror of the environmentalists and their socialist bedmates.

'The Clever Country?' Hardly.

This country's policies have for far too long been at the behest of a small shrill crowd of bearded academics, Gaia worshippers, homosexual lawyers and lobbyists, Leftwing activists, media opinion-makers, professional alarmists, and Muslims (they're in there somewhere).  8-)

The Australian continent has the most stable land on the entire planet.

Before the end of his second term in office I hope Action Hero Abbott will initiate the development of nuclear power in this country.

Where does Menzies, Holt. . .Howard sit in the above list. Hmmm you left jellybacks out.

Correct!

Bob Hawk wanted Australia to be a nuclear waste dumping ground for the rest of the world ~ but without nuclear energy for ourselves.

"The Clever Country?"

I actually agree there's probably a good money-earner there ~ but not go nuclear ourselves?

Unfortunately he makes a bit of an ass of himself with the Global Warming/Climate Change nonsense.

Quote:
With the nuclear power industry expanding rapidly around the world due to climate change and Australia supplying that industry with uranium exports for decades ahead, Mr Hawke said the issue arose from Australia's global obligations.

Quote:
FORMER prime minister Bob Hawke has called for Australia to assess a nuclear waste industry as a moral, financial and environmental response to climate change.

Quote:
"There is a responsibility to deal with global warming and consider what role Australia should play," Mr Hawke told The Australian.

It's sad to see Hawke talking gibberish like this in his fading years.
