if you look at pro-rate rates, WA and NSW are the low states and the rest are around 1 per 100,000

It wasn’t even child porn. It was footage of kids playing sport in.nudist camps.

Perfectly legal in the US, and presumably Canada, where this business operated for years.

But look at the facts. Azov Films sold DVDs of nudist home movies. It also sold "coming of age" feature films, including the 1969 British Academy Award winner, Kes. The site operated legally out of Canada for years.

Now the Mounties found a way to get them.for something and confiscated their mailing lists. They then organized a global sting in countries where this material might be deemed illegal - or not.

The legality of Azov Films content doesn’t matter. Presumably the peds were done for other images on their computers.

I would certainly question films like Kes and Stand By Me and even many nudist photos as being classified as porn, but it wouldn’t surprise me after the Jim Henson prosecution.

The images we’re discussing here do not warrant the death sentences you’re advocating. They wouldn’t even warrant a custodial sentence, if they’re found to be pornographic at all.

Remember, the definition of pornography is its intention to arouse. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think films already classified as PG can be put in that category, do you?

So it looks like Queensland had a few more resources than the other states - hence the higher figures. The other states are obviously relying on the Feds. It also said that more arrests were likely.

Kes - Didn't that win an award back in the 70's?  - and it has been on TV too. Pretty mild if you ask me. It's the British film about a boy who gets into falconry.

True. And it was one of the films for sale on the legal website at the heart of the sting that also sold nudist videos.

Australia has one of the loosest definitions of child pornography in the world. You can be arrested here even for artistic child nudes, as Bill Hensen was.

My guess is Queensland prosecutors believe they can get more convictions than the other states, hence the prosecutions. I have no doubt police would have found other pornographic images on the computers they searched, but if they are just going on the Azov Films purchased, most of the videos would be highly questionable as pornography.

The Toronto Star also said that 160 titles out of the 600 were deemed pornographic. I very much doubt if Kes fell into that 160, and I doubt if any of the others you mentioned would fall into that category either.

I’ve seen Kes - it has a naked shower scene. Oo-er, hang me high.
