That was ancient Celtic  in case you didn't know.  I was making a different point. How far back in time should we go to redress any perceived injustices perpetrated by one group against another? - or should we just live with the history in the knowledge that whatever we attempt to do will probably mess things up even further. No amount of apologetic hand wringing will  change anything in that regard.

Don't get me wrong. I've spoken to well two Aboriginal elders, and not surprisingly, they just want to acknowledge the past and move forward.

There's nothing 'wrong' in it so long as they don't expect to bludge on the technical and medical advancements that other societies have worked hard for generations to produce.

If you're going to 'access' every last one of the thousands of inventions, developments, discoveries, technologies, medicines, and transport systems brought to you upon the efforts of another society over many generations and at considerable financial and personal cost, then you have an obligation to make some sort of contribution towards supporting these people who have developed the goodies that are benefiting yourself and your society.

It's the same reason we expect people to get a job and make a contribution, no matter how humble.

We ALL of us have that element of wanting to resist change if change means shifting away from those habits and practices which are familiar to us over a period of many generations.

How many of us would have continued to attend school if we had been free to do other things of a recreational nature ~ fishing, etc. ?

How many of us would have opted out of the working life if Centrelink had been willing to pay our way without any questions asked?

I believe huge numbers would opt our of the rat race if there was a viable alternative that didn't mean living in poverty for ones entire life.

And consider this, TC: Captain Phillip and the 2nd fleet discovered that even those aborigines who lived on the Sydney harbour foreshores experienced such poverty of resources that they would bind their stomachs with vines as a means of reducing the pangs of hunger.

And then, when the convict settlers managed to grow a few fields of vegetables, the local natives would come at night to steal these to keep from starving.

Good stuff, Comrade. For progress to occur in Australia everyone must learn the 1000 odd Aboriginal languages that existed here before the white man's invasion. Only when there are several thousand different languages being spoken in the one area can there be peace, stability, and harmony.
