Dunno if this is new, but it seems very reminiscent.  Cods will be very annoyed and no doubt demanding that the Government resign.

interesting dilemma. If we are talking about Geoff Shaw, Napthine needs his independant vote to get his legislation through.  If Geoff Goes - bye bye Libs.   ;D

Of course we are talking about Geoff Shaw!  It is in the embedded link in the OP.

:)

This is one for cods, because we know just how appalled she was that the Gillard ALP Government clung to power with the vote of Thomson who was in exactly the same position as Shaw now finds himself.

I do not recall calling for the resignation  of the gillard govt btw...perhaps you also could refrain from the lies on that score.

has Shaw been supported for over 12 months???... considered innocent until proven.... I believe is the great labor go???...

I am sure you are the only ones interested..

my major concern was WIDOWS FUNDS that disappeared up someone elses bank account..

something lefties showed not one iota of interest in...

when he gets charged with 176 chgs whilst sitting on the benches let us know aussie...

btw in all seriousness...I am disgusted with what goes on and seems to be allowed to go..... its never ending.

Yes, they need his vote to remain in government.

This is eerily similar to the recent Craig Thomson business. The numbers are similarly tight - 43-43 + Speaker + Shaw. The imperilled MP has resigned from their party. The imperilled MP has been charged with criminal offences. Sound familiar?

For the Liberals, this could get very ugly, very quickly.

The worst-case scenario is that the Liberals will not even make it to the fixed-term election that is due in 14 months. Frankston has a margin of only 1.71% and can easily fall to Labor in a by-election.

Will the liberal Party think twice before endorsing nutty Evangelical Christians in the future?

Prolly Shaw was in the wrong party - he would have been better suited to the Rise Up Australia Party.

WTF are you on?

1. Brumby wasn't unelected.
2. Brumby was a disrespectful imbecile.
3. Bailleiu was seen as do nothing because he never spoke to the media. But Bailleiu was actually good in my books. It's a shame for once a politician just wants to do their job, and still that's not good enough.

Here is another article on this festering fiasco.

Victorian Independent MP Geoff Shaw charged over use of taxpayer-funded car

I quote the last two paragraphs of the article below:

Quote:
If found guilty of obtaining financial advantage by deception, Shaw could face up to 10 years in jail.

If convicted, Mr Shaw would no longer be able to hold his seat.

The Victorian Government is doomed.

Baillieu was pathetic because he refused to be accountable. He went to ground whenever there was a scandal big or small and gave the Opposition a clear run to denounce the latest wrongdoing. His satisfaction rating dived faster than an anvil pushed off a cliff and his government's rating dived with it, plunging from 57-43 to 45-55 in a little more than a year (Newspoll).

The Coalition are polling better with Napthine as leader but they have not done better than 51-49 in any Newspoll for two years. This is lower than their 2010 election result of 51.6-48.4.

True it is a matter of opinion whether brumby was a smug prick or not.  But the election result in Victoria was not one of "it's time." it was more because of people's dislike of brumby.  So I'd say the matter of opinion is more swayed towards him being a prick.  And good riddance to him.

Labor had been in power for more than 11 years. Not many governments in Australia go for more than 11 years.

Bimonthly Newspoll has put Labor at 51-49. This Newspoll is an aggregate of the last two months, so the latest developments in the Shaw affair have little bearing on this poll.

Also, margin of error, blah blah blah.

More details here: Newspoll: 51-49 to Labor in Victoria (Crikey - Poll Bludger)
