Title: Shorten believes he has a mandate
Post by Maqqa on Sep 12th, 2013 at 10:25pm
3 weeks ago - Shorten supported a leader who believes Labor did not have a mandate on the carbon tax

Barely a week after a heavy election lost where the electorate clearly backed the LIBs "abolish the carbon tax" stance - the next ALP leader thinks Labor has a mandate on the carbon tax  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Bill Shorten has declared carbon pricing as a key achievement of the last Labor government in a speech announcing his intention to run for the party's leadership.

"I know that Labor fundamentally believes in putting a price on carbon pollution ... Labor has a mandate for it's views on carbon pricing," he said.

Ultimately caucus would decide matters of policy such as whether it would oppose moves to repeal the carbon tax, he said.
"I do not believe it is good politics or indeed a good vision for Australia to defer to the next generation dealing with the problems of this generation," he said.
"And Labor has a mandate for its views on carbon pricing pollution."

I've never understood this innane "opposition controlled senate must be a rubber stamp for the government" line. If Abbott really had a "mandate", then he would control the senate.

3 weeks ago - Shorten supported a leader who believes Labor did have a mandate on an ETS.

Just like the ETS John Howard wanted - until Abbott knifed his leader and ignored that mandate.

The only "mandate" Abbott will get now might be a quicky from Brough and Pyne's mate Ashby.

Rudd told 3 journalists from the Australian that he intended to remain Labor leader according to a news report I posted yesterday

Emerson's been paying out Rudd

Shorten and Alwaysleazy fancy themselves the next leaders of Labor which would be great because Labor would disappear

It's going to be fun watching Labor retards fight each other

Rudd doesn't seem prepared to vanish whilst the backstabbing  Labor midgets are vying for leader status

Mandates are a political fantasy and have no basis in the Constitution or law.....In 2007 Kevin Rudd clearly won the election with a policy on carbon pricing but Abbott did not recognise his mandate.....Why should the ALP support what they consider bad policy and a Leader who has already rejected a mandate from the people.....Abbott should get no help from the ALP to implement his crap policies!!!

It's hilarious to see and hear them.  They just don't get that the public is glad they're gone and wants to move on now

Instead, Shorten and Albo are posturing while Rudd's claiming he plans to return

Labor is irrelevant.  It seems determined to self-destruct repeatedly

Incredible to me how so many mental cases gravitated to Labor like a heap of iron filings to a magnet

There is all sorts of weird going on with Shorten so much that its hard to know where to start...
The very thought of this science experiment gone wrong representing this country on the international stage is to horrible to contemplate.

Its an interesting strategy, its deliberate the ALP knows the carbon tax is on the nose but I am guessing the ALP will drop it later on if the strategy fails. What this tells me is the ALP doesn't think it will have any chance at the next election and will finally drop this theory after they lose again hoping they can win the election after the next.

If it all falls apart Shorten will not be the leader after the first election.

no one is asking for a rubber stamp.  but labor and the greens are simply obstructionist and oppose the clear will of the people.  But the people have spoken loud and clear and taken away the labor/greens capacity to block the carbon tax repeal.

he won the election with a mandate for his MAJOR policy ie workchoices.  ETS was a minor policy and unless you want to grant a mandate to every policy in a winning election then you have to concede that Worchoices was the mandate for 2007.

One of the most important aspects of a potential leader is trust.

Bill Shorten?

A man who cheated on his wife and said he'd support Gillard right to the moment she looked like she'd lose and then switched camps?

Give me a break. The guy is an immoral, untrustworthy dog.

Albanese on the other hand is a decent bloke.
