Title: The golden years of radio
Post by bogarde73 on May 7th, 2013 at 2:27pm
It is said that the golden years of radio were the 1940s and 1950s.
Wrong. These are the golden years of radio.
Why? The internet.
Today we have access via podcast to an absolute wealth of audio material from broadcasters all over the world. You are only limited by your language skills and of course your time.
For example, from the BBC, Australia's ABC, NPR in the USA, Deutsche Welle in Germany, Voice of Russia & more you have access to news & views, interviews, docos, panel discussions and all kinds of things that were not possible even a few years ago.
But wait, there's more. Not only can you have today's programs and archived material downloaded on to your whatever, but you can even have an increasing amount of the material that was produced in those golden years of yesterday.
More & more sites are appearing giving free access to programs produced from the 1930s onwards. Fascinating material from a social history perspective and loads of entertainment.
I can't tear myself away.

Nobody seems interested in this. Beats me why.
Yesterday I listened to the "Jack Benny Show" from 1950. Such a funny guy.
What interests me too is 1. people don't change much over time and 2. you get an idea of how people lived back then.

Jack Benny was good.

You don't hear him much nowadays.

Spike Jones was another.

Might go looking for some of those sites.

Thanks for that, Bogarde.

I've bookmarked it, and will have a bit of a listen later
when I can get to do so without distractions.

Will do.

Weekend is probably when I'll be able to relax and enjoy.
