Was wondering what happened myself. Considered that maybe debaterelate was one of the sites that had a server attack in recent weeks, and couldn't be restarted. Considered that perhaps I got somehow banned. But I would say that poo happens.

Imagine, twenty kids brutally murdered in one rampage in Connecticut and the legislators go into a frenzy while 806 young people and children have been killed in Chicago alone in the last six years. Where's the outrage? Almost 3500 dead since Sandy Hook, where's the reportage?

Though I will admit that Chicago has bigger problems than mere gun control.

Also interesting to note the incidence of gun crimes in this country since the Weapons Act was passed. Seems like Sydney and the Gold Coast are slow getting the news.

Just maybe, banning guns is an easier, and more publicly satiating, solution than fixing fractured societies.

The reason I occasionally need to delete is ecause when I make an 'edit' ~ and click the button to submit it ~ a double post is created.

Well, as so happens, my great-great grandfather was German, with a fairly obvious German name. It was a matter of a snake bite that changed the course of my family's history. My great-great grandfather succumbed to the snake bite venom, leaving behind a family and widow. My other great-great grandfather (of Welsh extraction) came along, married my great-great grandmother and adopted the children. He then bestowed upon them his last name of .... Welsh origin.... and so onwards my great grandfather pursued the family line having his own family (with my grandfather as one of his sons). Had my great grandfather not had a new daddy with a new last name, it's quite possible that granddad and great granddad (of Welsh origin last name, but German extraction) would have been harassed during WW1 and WW2 by the local yokels. I couldn't imagine them Anglicising their last name just to appear more Aussie to avoid harassment during two world wars, had snake anti-venom been readily available in the 1880s. Though perhaps, WW2 might have changed things for them to hurry up and assimilate.

I've spent the last two years trying to link my great grandfather to where he was born and lived in Germany, but no luck so far.

He lived and worked for a while on Burntisland in Scotland. His son married my Devonshire grandmother ... and around 1922 he traveled to Shanghai to take up a job opportunity. My grandmother followed him there two years later. After that he disappears from the records.

Bit of a mystery.

He was a tailor like his father. It's possible they were Jews, but I've seen no evidence of this.

Let's hope you appreciate the host's generosity in allowing you to promote the attempted resurrection of D&R. I doubt the owner of the original D&R would have allowed the same to be done for another board.

If you manage to get it up and running again - just leave the former members with a sense of decency and/or humour here and take the others back with you. 

I don't think I'll bother going back. Too much effort and I have too much to do anyway.

Understandable Mantra, especially given Members are being kept in the dark about who is moderating. Dunno why it has to be a secret, unless there is a potential problem from the old D&R past.

I am new here so I just assumed Herbert ( his post are excellent) and some of the other poster who came here from D+R were usual poster here. I find many of the nicks who have come from that board interesting and resonable posters. I hope they come back to this board often and post their views.

In defense of this board having a waiting period for posting links I have to say I have been a moderator of boards before and you would not believe how many morons will pop in just to post a link to their car dealerships, porn, etc. So I can see the logic behind having to show that you are truly interested in being a poster here before you can post a link.


To all you D+R posters I hope you can find some time to remember this board. You have to admit it was nice of this boards moderators to allow y'all the opportunity to fine each other here. Many aussie boards I have been a member of will not allow other boards links to displays but this one showed y'all kindness.

BTW if y'all would be so kind as to drag that stupid chimp and that sob thingy to y'alls site I'd be much obliged..lol You can keep them both forever as far as I'm concerned. ;D

I also look with wry amusement the rules about ad hom.  I say wry amusement cos Bwian has demonstrated he does not know when an accusation of ad hom is appropriate, to be fair and blunt, he does not have a smacking clue what an ad hom is.  I have tried to educate him, but as anyone who has dealt with the bullshitting fool knows he is resistant to learning. 

Time will tell, however I believe it will turn into a site of likeminded liars and hypocrites, talking to themselves.

At a rough guess I'd say, because Herb doesn't hate  White America, the Jews, Christians, White Britain, White Australians, White heterosexual men, etc. etc.

Also he should have shown more tolerance / acceptance of muslim terrorists, because it's not their fault, nor is islamic terrorism in any way connected with islam and the qur'an.

I`m afraid Herb's ideas quiet simply are the antithesis of the ideology exhibited by the present d&r admin. (IMHO)

Unlike Aussie, I will not p.iss on Brian's carpet, but I doubt I'll hang around. In 8 years of modding, I never dumped a post that was "racist" or "biggotted".

The only time I hit "delete" was a post of MarsBarKids, and that was an accident - I meant to hit "quote", and I apologised.

Brian is not only dumping stuff, but he is deleting it.

As I've said, with every right comes a responsibility.  I'd prefer not to see any rules imposed but anarchy simply doesn't work and absolute freedom of speech has its own problems.   Something even the supposed absolute bastion of the right acknowledges in its Supreme Court judgements.

We've see what the old D&R looked like and IMHO it was pretty ugly place.   It scared off any potential new recruits and it had simply become place where those who couldn't act in a responsible, adult way had free reign for their petty sniping.

Now, it is your choice, either you can give the new rules a chance or you won't.  If you don't, I will be both sorry to see you go and be sorry that you wouldn't rise to the challenge they offer.  Surely even you could discuss issues without resorting to unnecessary, offensive comments?

I would like to give Brian's version of a board a fair go. There are plenty of other boards where one can vent ones more aggressive instincts.

I want to see Datalife posting at D&R with sympathetic and brotherly regard for Brian's various sensitivities.

I want to see a reconciliation between the two. Perhaps we could even witness a mutual 'Sorry Day' between them before too long.
