Title: LABOR to lose because of Carbon Tax, Boat People Post by red baron on Mar 11th, 2013 at 11:39am
I predict that LABOR will lose the next Federal Election because of these two leading issues.
The Carbon Tax is an invasive tax which has cost the whole Nation plenty and achieved nothing. The average working person does not want to hear the same tired old arguments, over how it reduces Carbon pollution the average punter thinks that is a crock. I totally agree. Whilst I applaud Governments for reducing carbon emissions this intrusive tax, is not the way to do it and only causes our country to be uncompetitive and without any real impact on carbon emmissions here. The Carbon Tax is a big fat balloon that the Liberals will quickly put a needle in. And deservedly so. The other main one, are the boats up north that continue and continue to arrive uninvited to our shores. If other peoples want to emigrate here, apply to an Australian Embassy and get in the queue just like countless thousands of migrants have had to do. Don't turn up on our doorstep with your hands out. I am totally convinced, the majority of Australians do no want this. And further, they will tell Labor so come September. |

True, but the main issue is trust. JuLiar killed off a first term, demokratically elected PM.
And the Labor brand is completely on the nose - in NSW, anyway. Craig Thomson, Eddie Obeid, the whole greasy lot of them. Surely people aren't stupid enough to believe Tony Abbott will single-handedly stop the boats, fix the budget or even axe the tax. They're merely voting for him because he's not Labor and he's just saying he'll do all these things. No one's really warming to Abbott, but I predict he'll get an easy ride on boat-stopping and the budget. He'll come in, blame it all on Labor, and continue promising, spending and taking in refugees as normal. All Abbott has to do is appear to be trustworthy. If I was him I'd be promising as little as possible and keeping mum - which is pretty-much what he's doing anyway. That, and let the rest of the attack-dogs do the dog-whistling about behaviour protocols and all the rest - none of it to be implemented as policy. None of it - direct action, the Pacific Solution, running a surplus - how can they? They're not workable solutions, and they contradict each other. Direct action is too expensive, there's no cost-cutting plan, and the Pacific Solution is dead in the water. The people will vote for Abbott merely for saying these things, but he won't be doing any of them. Abbott will continue to blame Labor for most of his first term, just as he's done in opposition. At some point, he'll need to find his groove. No one knows what that will be - especially Abbott. |

The carbon tax is in the nature of a large anchor, the lines of which are tied firmly round the ankles of Julia Gillard.
The issue of boat people is not simply to do with them coming but more to do with where they are coming from. We assimilated thousands of Vietnamese boat people without any of this aggro. The issue now is inescapably that the vast majority are opposed to middle eastern immigration and the fact that some of it is illegal makes it a convenient hook to hang the anti-Labor hat on. |

Or do you think they can all sit in camps in Jordon forever? And thats even before the mass exodus of reffos begin streaming out of Afghanistan the minute the west pulls out. Im interested to know what plans Tony has to fix the worlds refugee problem and the millions of asylum seekers washing around the globe looking for sanctuary. |

As I've said before - it's time for Australia to withdraw from the UN Refugee Convention.
Or, at least we need a referendum on it (yeah, like that's ever going to happen). The 1951 UN Refugee Convention is well past it's use by date. It was drawn up to help the many people (mainly Europeans) who were displaced by World War 2. Not the current flood of Middle Eastern country shoppers. |

O.K. alevine today CS.R. shed 152 jobs and closed its glass making factory at Ingleburn. A big factor in this was the burgeoning strain of the Carbon Tax. They will now import their glass from countries that don't have this sh.tty tax and in the meantime they will save 27 million dollars by doing so.
Unless you've been watching the news with your eyes closed and tissues stuck in your ears you would have noted just how many of our manufacturing industries have folded. The freaking useless Carbon Tax was the last straw for many of these traditional companies. If you want more examples find them yourself, I'm not doing your bloody homework for you. |

Have you got the press release that states it was the Carbon tax? Manufacturing is folding primarily due to our inability to sell the value of an Australian product vs. the value of an Asian product and the difference in our currencies (ie, the cost of manufacturing and then exporting it due to the current Aussie Dollar is TOO HIGH). I'm all for the reserve bank entering the currency wars. I think it's a necessity. It's criminal to sit by and watch other countries fight tooth and nail to reduce their currency while ours remains this inflated. As for homework - you're the one suggesting the carbon tax has added too much cost. DO YOUR HOMEWORK and OFFER EXAMPLES to SUSTAIN YOUR ARGUMENT. Otherwise don't post unfounded crap. |

one of the reasons there is so much strife in Logan... no income for kiwis and Islanders for 2 yrs.. yet they let them in... it is the responsibility of govt to put in place measures to deal with an influx,, where ever they're from. The worst thing gillard ever did was giving legitimacy to the xenophobic opinion. The worst thing tony ever did was open his mouth before thinking. Sloganeering has to stop. If you are being bigoted and/or xenophobic in your opinion then don't expect a person to give it legitimacy because of fear of offending. And it isn't about being PC either; it's very simply what it is; a xenophobic argument that can of course be made given free speech, but don't expect for it to be accepted without it being called out for what it is. And I've noticed it quite often from you Mistie. You like to pull the shutters down all the time by attemping to suggest it is somehow wrong to call someone xenophobic, for being xenophobic. Similar to how you like to call out Godwins law one too many times, to avoid having to answer a very legitimate point. |

Heard something most disturbing on this very subject this very night. It seems Labor has had another dastardly idea for helping them in an election. Letters will be addressed not to "voters" but "persons" to enter their name on the electoral roll. Now, is that to allow the non-eligible to vote, e.g. boatpeople? |

My main beef with these terms - xenophobia, racism etc - is that they aren't arguments or 'academic' in any shape or form. They are, as you even state yourself, labels and slogans. These terms in no way refute someone's position on 'boat people' or refugees' or other races. They are designed to denigrate (and refute, but the leftists don't actually realise they don't refute a position); they possess connotations and denotions on lynching, gassing, etc. By labelling your opponent with such terms is to align him with such atrocities. Guilt by association. |

jeez you are a reactionary old dude aren't you...
oooh conspircay to secretly help Labor..!! wake up to youself .. hmmm OK forget that... you are too old in the brain to even be able to grasp new thoughts... you go by your memories... sadly there r people that will take up your idea... fearful, narrow-minded idiots I'd call you. Hey... let me give you an example... I have an older Kiwi couple as dear friends.. but I was astonished to hear.... that a doz or so yrs ago, when they had shifted here... a letter arrived in the mail box... not addressed to them.. from the Electoral Commission, .. saying the people at the address ( not them) should be enrolled to vote. So they DID, and then, subsequently voted in a Fed election. When they finally figured it out they rang the EC ,, and were told.. oh no... you can't vote,,, but not to worry.. your vote would have had no impact on the outcome,, so forget it... but don't vote again, unless you are Aus citizens... !! |

Where's the dishonesty? Labor actually DID introduce a carbon dioxide tax, despite promising not to do so. Labor actually has had not so much an increase as a FLOOD of illegal immigrants since Rudd scrapped the Pacific Solution - more than 30,000 since 2008 and counting. Lets not forget the debt, not helped by Swan handing out money left, right and centre through carbon dioxide tax compo, stimulus packages that were rorted to no end and increasing the tax-free threshold to $18k in a move that will severely cut into revenue the government could have received. So where is the dishonesty in that??? |

I'd say so, OS. It would seem that Labor are now so desperate they're targeting the 5000-odd non-citizens held in detention to vote for them. The boat people will flee from the detention centres or community placements to vote on election day, only to be told they're non-citizens and can't vote. Dastardly! Another cunning plot from the ALP. |

Lets remember Gilliards dishonest spins back in 2010, especially in the end when she called the carbon tax at that forum, carbon pricing and that she would seek a CONSENSUS before implementing such a policy. |

O-I/ACI glass will lose over 500,000,000 units to glass production in China this year alone. 2 reasons, the high Oz $ and high energy costs of production, made worse by the carbon tax. Oh, i don't have any press releases for you, i only know this becuase i work with these people that supply our glass, and they fear for their industry and jobs. |
