Title: Israels Most Recent Senseless Violence In Gaza
Post by Prevailing on Nov 15th, 2012 at 12:54pm
In the Israeli Governments most recent act of senseless violence and cold blooded murder Palestinian leader leader Ahmed Jabari has been assassinated.  The move appears timed to send a message regarding the Palestinians push for recognition by the UN and is a clear sign of a lack of resolve on Israels part to commit to the road map towards peace.  Israel is also threatening to topple Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.
This conduct is unacceptable and I condemn in the strongest terms this latest act of violence and urge the United Nations to likewise condemn it and call all parties to cease and desist from all violence immediately and without exception...

Israel kills Hamas leader Ahmed Jabari in Gaza strike

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he had talked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to express concern about "an alarming escalation of indiscriminate rocket fire from Gaza into Israel and the targeted killing by Israel of a Hamas military operative in Gaza.''

US President Barack Obama spoke to Netanyahu and Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi today, seeking to de-escalate the Gaza conflict.

Obama reiterated with both leaders that Israel had the right to self-defence following a volley of rocket attacks on its soil by Gaza-based militants and also called on Netanyahu to try to avoid civilian casualties in reprisal strikes.

Today's attack came at a time when Israel seemed to be under fire from all directions. Relations have been deteriorating with Egypt's new Islamist government, Egypt's lawless Sinai desert has become a staging ground for militant attacks on Israel, and the Syrian civil war has begun to spill over Israel's northern border. This week, Israel fired back at Syria - for the first time in nearly 40 years - after stray mortar fire landed in the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights.

With at least 10 Palestinians dead, including two young children, today's offensive was certain to set off a new round of heavy fighting with Gaza militants, who have built up a formidable arsenal of rockets and missiles.

It also threatened to upset Israel's relations with neighboring Egypt and shake up the campaign for Israeli elections in January. In a preliminary response, Egypt recalled its ambassador to Israel in protest.

In a nationwide address, Netanyahu said Israel could no longer stand repeated attacks on its southern towns. Days of rocket fire have heavily disrupted life for some 1 million people in the region, cancelling school and forcing residents to remain indoors.

"If there is a need, the military is prepared to expand the operation. We will continue to do everything to protect our citizens," Netanyahu declared.

The Israeli military said it was ready, if necessary, to send ground troops into Gaza. The defence officials who said a ground operation was likely in the coming days spoke on condition of anonymity because they were discussing sensitive military plans.

"We are at the beginning of the event, and not the end," defence Minister Ehud Barak said, in a joint appearance with the prime minister. "In the long run I believe the operation will help strengthen the power of deterrence and to return quiet to the south." In a sign that the operation was expected to broaden, the military was cleared to call up reserve units.

Residents in both Israel and Gaza braced for prolonged violence. Gazans rushed to stock up on food and fuel. After nightfall, streets were empty as the sounds of Israeli warplanes and explosions of airstrikes could be heard in the distance.

Israel declared a state of emergency in its south and canceled school across the area for the day. Calling it a "special situation," Barak sought permission to call up special reserve units for the operations. Israeli police stepped up patrols around the country, fearing that Hamas could retaliate with bombing attacks far from the reaches of Gaza.

Hamas has in the past staged dozens of suicide bombings against Israelis and while its capabilities to do so today have been curtailed by Israeli and Palestinian crackdowns, it still has a network in the West Bank.

More than 65 rockets landed in southern Israel late Wednesday. One projectile struck a shopping mall in the southern city of Beersheba, causing heavy damage but no casualties, police said.

The Israeli military said 25 rockets were intercepted by the "Iron Dome" rocket-defence system. Israeli media said the rockets had been headed toward Beersheba. Israeli aircraft continued to pound Gaza into the night with some 50 airstrikes, with no reports of casualties.

The deadly attack on Hamas mastermind Ahmed Jabari marked the resumption of Israel's policy of "targeted killings," or assassinations of senior Hamas men. Israel has refrained from such attacks, which have drawn international condemnations, since a fierce three-week offensive in Gaza that ended in January 2009.

The earlier Gaza offensive killed more than 1400 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians. Israel has blamed Hamas for the heavy civilian casualties, accusing the group of using schools and residential neighborhoods as cover. Nonetheless, Israel was harshly criticized internationally for the heavy civilian death toll.

Jabari was the most senior Hamas official to be killed since that war. He had long topped Israel's most-wanted list, blamed for masterminding a string of deadly attacks that including a bold, cross-border kidnapping of an Israeli soldier in 2006. He also was believed to be a key player in Hamas' takeover of Gaza in 2007 from a rival Palestinian faction, the Western-backed Fatah movement.

"I would call him the No. 1 terrorist in the Gaza Strip, whose hands are stained with blood," said Brig. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, Israel's chief military spokesman.

Israel and Hamas have largely observed an informal truce for the past four years.

But in recent weeks, the calm has unraveled in a bout of rocket attacks out of Gaza and retaliatory Israeli airstrikes. From Israel's perspective, Hamas escalated tit-for-tat fighting in recent days with a pair of attacks: an explosion in a tunnel along the Israeli border and a missile attack on an Israeli military jeep that seriously wounded four soldiers.

Israeli defence officials warned this week that they were considering resuming the assassination policy.

Even so, the Jabari killing, carried out in broad daylight, was shocking. Hamas officials had brushed off the Israeli threats, illustrated by Jabari's decision to drive in public. Hamas leaders typically go into hiding at times of rising tensions. Over the past two days, the fighting had shown signs of petering out as Egyptian mediators tried to broker a truce.

The Israeli military released a black-and-white video of the airstrike, showing a sedan moving slowly along a road before going up in flames in an explosion so powerful that a large chunk of the vehicle flew high into the air.

Crowds of people and security personnel rushed to the scene of the strike, trying to put out the fire that had engulfed the car and left it a charred shell. Plumes of black smoke wafted into Gaza City's skies following other airstrikes. Ambulance sirens blared as people ran in panic in the streets and militants fired angrily into the air.

The Israeli military also released footage of its strikes against weapons depots and rocket-launching grounds. Barak said these airstrikes hit "terror infrastructure" and launchers used to fire Iranian-made Fajr rockets. The rockets, capable of reaching Tel Aviv, are among Hamas' most powerful weapons.

The military said it hit dozens of medium-range rocket launch sites, many of which are located in residential buildings, military officials said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the operation. The military also said the navy was striking Hamas targets located by the shore. Hamas denied that any of its weapons stores were hit.

Hamas announced a state of emergency in Gaza. It evacuated all its security buildings and deployed its troops away from their locations.

Outside the hospital where Jabari's body was taken, thousands of Gazans chanted "Retaliation!" and "We want you to hit Tel Aviv tonight!"

"I was sitting on my bed with my grandson when suddenly the wall collapsed on both of our heads," said Mahmoud Bana, a 62-year-old man who was slightly wounded along with his 11-year-old grandson. "We don't know what happened but we know it is going to be a few hard days ahead."

In a statement, Hamas' prime minister, Ismail Haniyeh, eulogised Jabari and vowed revenge.

"We mourn our late leader who walked the path of jihad while he knew the end, either victory or martyrdom," Haniyeh said. "There is no fear among our people and our resistance, and we will face this vicious attack."

The airstrike bore many similarities to the start of Israel's previous offensive in December 2008. That operation also began with an air raid on Hamas buildings, and also took place in between American presidential elections and Israeli parliamentary elections.

Hamas accused Netanyahu of launching Wednesday's operation to win votes in the Jan. 22 parliamentary election. But major Israeli parties, including the dovish opposition, all lined up behind Netanyahu.

Still, the region has changed greatly over the past four years. Most critically for Israel, Egypt is now governed by Hamas' ideological counterpart, the Muslim Brotherhood.

Israel and Egypt signed a peace accord in 1979. Relations, never warm, have deteriorated since longtime Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak was ousted in a popular uprising last year. The assassination threatened to further damage those fraying ties.

On its official Facebook page, the Freedom and Justice Party, the Muslim Brotherhood's political arm, called Jabari's assassination a "crime that requires a quick Arab and international response to stem these massacres against the besieged Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."

It accused Israel of trying to "drag the region toward instability."

In Washington, the United States lined up behind Israel. "We support Israel's right to defend itself, and we encourage Israel to continue to take every effort to avoid civilian casualties," said State Department spokesman Mark Toner. He denounced Hamas rocket attacks.

Netanyahu spoke to Obama and thanked him for the support, said a statement from his office.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for calm and urged both sides to respect international humanitarian law.

Israel's use of targeted killings is one of the most contentious policies used against militants.

Advocates say targeted killings are an effective deterrent without the complications associated with a ground operation, chiefly civilian and Israeli troop casualties. Proponents argue they also prevent future attacks by removing their masterminds.

Critics say the killings invite retaliation by militants and encourage them to try to assassinate Israeli leaders. They complain that the strikes amount to extrajudicial killings.

During a wave of suicide bombings against Israel a decade ago, the country employed the tactic to eliminate the upper echelon of Hamas leadership.

During that period, Israeli aircraft assassinated the previous commander of Hamas' military wing, Salah Shehadeh, the movement's founder and spiritual leader, Sheik Ahmed Yassin, his successor, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, and dozens of other Hamas military commanders.

The practice set off a wave of criticism from rights groups and foreign governments, particularly the strike that killed Shehadeh - a one-ton bomb that killed 14 other people, most of them children.

Pro-Palestinian groups have attempted, unsuccessfully, to arrest Israeli officials involved in the Shehadeh killing on war crimes charges. While charges have never been filed, fears of arrest have forced a number of Israeli officials to cancel travel to Europe over the years.

With at least 10 Palestinians dead, including two young children,

I would not stay in Palestine, I would get the hell out and let Israel have my land, it's not worth losing your children for. Israel will get what's coming to them in the end. Now we will see more and ever more deaths of innocent people, for what? land! big deal. Go, and let the evil one's have the land.

Hamas says now in 'open war' with Israel, promises 'gates of hell'

The assassination has "opened the gates of hell," the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, were quoted by AFP as saying.

"The occupation committed a dangerous crime and crossed all the red lines, which is considered a declaration of war," he said in a statement. Hamas vowed to "continue the path of resistance."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called for an immediate Arab League meeting in response to Wednesday's attack.

Mosques across Gaza were packed with mourners vowing revenge. The streets outside the hospital where Jabari's body was taken were filled with thousands of angry Palestinians chanting "retaliation" and

"We want you to hit Tel Aviv tonight." Among the mourners outside the Shifa hospital in Gaza City were armed men firing into the air.
Gaza's Health Minister Dr. Mufeed Mkhallalati said a total of 10 people were killed, including Jabari. Fourty five people are reported injured, 10 of them are in critical condition.  An 11-month-old and a 6-year-old girl were among the dead.

Russia calls for end to attacks, violence in Gaza

(Reuters) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called on Wednesday for an end to violence in the Gaza Strip after Israeli air strikes killed the military commander of Hamas's armed wing and six other Palestinians.

Speaking at a news conference after a meeting with Gulf Arab foreign ministers in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Lavrov said: "It is important that attacks and violence (in Gaza) stop."

China repeats support for Palestinian U.N. bid

(Reuters) - China said on Tuesday it supports the Palestinian bid for U.N. observer status, with a vote on the matter at the United Nations later this month.

China has traditionally had close relations with the Palestinians, but in recent years also has had good ties with Israel, especially in the field of defense.

"China understands, respects and supports the Palestinians' request to enter the United Nations," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily briefing.

"China always supports the Palestinian people's just cause of recovering their national and legitimate rights and interests, and will always hold that independent statehood is the lawful right of Palestinian people, and also the basis for a two-state solution."
;)

Washington says it favors eventual statehood for the Palestinians, but wants it to come as a result of negotiations with Israel. The United States can block full recognition of Palestine as a U.N. member at the Security Council, where it has a veto, :-? but the 193-nation U.N. General Assembly can still grant observer status.

U.S.-brokered peace talks have foundered, in part because of continued Jewish settlement-building in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinians, leaving them no choice but to request recognition without waiting for Israel to agree. :(

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday repeated an offer to restart peace talks with Israel after the U.N. vote. :)

Egypt has strongly condemned Israel's military assault on Gaza, calling for an immediate cessation of the air strikes against Hamas's military leadership that claimed the life of the group's operational commander, Ahmed al-Jaabari. 8-)

The country, whose government is dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, which came to power after the fall of Hosni Mubarak, has a long history of mediating between Hamas and Israel. It hosted negotiations for the release of the kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, which involved Jabari.

The Egyptian statement came as the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, also called for an immediate ceasefire. "The secretary general calls for an immediate de-escalation of tensions," the spokesman Martin Nesirky said.

"Both sides should do everything to avoid further escalation, and they must respect their obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of civilians at all times." :'(

The Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, called for an urgent Arab League meeting on the air strikes, according to the Egyptian news agency Mena, which quoted a Palestinian official in Egypt.

"Barakat al-Fara, the Palestinian ambassador in Cairo and the Palestinian representative in the Arab League announced that, based on instructions from President Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian state had asked for an urgent meeting of the Arab League to discuss the Israeli offensive on Gaza Strip," Mena reported.

In recent days, Egypt helped mediate a short-lived ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after some 100 missiles were fired into Gaza over five days. The truce broke down with the air strikes on Wednesday.

A statement from Egypt's foreign ministry said: "Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr condemned the series of air strikes that Israel is currently conducting against Gaza Strip, and which led to the killing of Ahmed al-Jaabari. "He called on Israel to stop its strikes on Gaza Strip immediately."

A peace treaty between Israel and Egypt was signed in 1979 after the 1978 Camp David accords. Since then, the two countries have co-ordinated on security matters.

That relationship, however, has become increasingly tense since the fall of Hosni Mubarak during the Arab spring.

Since the election of the Muslim Brotherhood, an increasingly vociferous public debate over the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel has bubbled to the surface.

Egypt's new, Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi, hails from the Freedom and Justice party (FJP), the political wing of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood group. Since his election, last June, he has strengthened the relationship between Egypt and Hamas, the political front of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood.

The chairman of the Muslim Brotherhood's FJP party, Saad Elkatatny, said: "The Egyptian people revolted against injustice and will not accept an attack on Gaza. The brutal aggression on Gaza proves that Israel has not yet learned that Egypt has changed."

A statement from the FJP added: "The Freedom and Justice party stresses its full condemnation of the Israeli assignation operation against al-Qassam leader Ahmed al-Jaabari." It called for a quick Arab and international reaction. 8-)

"Israel's return to the policy of assignation of leaders from the Palestinian struggle groups shows that the Israeli occupation wants to drag the region towards instability," the FJP statement added.

"But the occupying state has to understand that the changes the Arab region, and especially Egypt, have witnessed will not permit that the Palestinian people be put under the hold of the Israeli offence in the same way as the past." ;)

Even before the latest attacks, the European Union and the Arab League had issued a joint statement of concern over the situation in Gaza after a meeting of foreign ministers from both groups in Cairo on Tuesday expressed "concern at the recent escalation in and around Gaza".

The Foreign Office called on Wednesday for restraint on all sides in the escalating crisis over Gaza, the worst flare-up of violence between Israel and the Palestinian territory since Operation Cast Lead, four years ago. ::)

As news of the killing of Jaabari broke, a spokesman said: "We are aware of reports of the death of the senior Hamas commander Ahmed al-Jaabari. We continue to call on all sides to exercise restraint to prevent a dangerous escalation that would be in no one's interests."

In the US a Pentagon spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Warren, said."We're monitoring the situation closely. We stand by our Israeli partners in their right to defend themselves against terrorism." :P

Israeli operation over Gaza Strip echoes across region

CAIRO - Reuters

Egypt officially requested today a meeting of the U.N. Security Council to discuss what it described as Israeli aggression on Gaza, the Foreign Ministry said, Reuters reported.

Egypt, which in 1979 became the first Arab state to sign a peace treaty with Israel, recalled its ambassador from Israel yesterday after Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip killed Hamas's top military commander.

The peace with Israel has never been warm, even under U.S.-ally Hosni Mubarak, but ties have turned even cooler since the longtime autocrat was ousted last year and Islamists took power.

Egypt's representative to the United Nations called for the meeting in formal letters to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the current head of the council, India's representative, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Egyptian ambassador expressed Egypt's "serious alarm at the Israeli aggression on Gaza" and described the attack as a violation of international law.

He called for urgent international action, particularly from the council, "to confront this serious situation which threatens international peace and security."

Egypt's Foreign Minister Kamel Amr has called on the United States to intervene and end "Israeli aggression" on the Gaza Strip, state media reported today.

Amr "requested that the United States immediately intervene to stop Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people in Gaza", MENA news agency reported, adding that Amr spoke to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by telephone.

Iran condemns Israel's Gaza strikes as 'terrorism'

Iran condemned today as "organised terrorism" an offensive by Israel against Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.
8-)
"Iran considers the criminal act of Israeli military forces in killing civilians as organised terrorism and strongly condemns it," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

The spokesman also criticised what he called "the silence of international organizations claiming to defend human rights," following the strikes.

Israel killed the military commander of Hamas on Wednesday in an air strike on Gaza and threatened an invasion of the enclave.

Hamas retaliated today by firing dozens of rockets into southern Israel, killing three people.

Gillard condemns attacks on Israel

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has condemned the attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip, saying the rocket attacks will not help the Palestinian campaign for self-determination.

In a statement, Ms Gillard said Australia was gravely concerned by the escalating conflict.

''The government condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip and calls on Hamas to cease these immediately,'' Ms Gillard said.

''Australia supports Israel's right to defend itself against these indiscriminate attacks. Such attacks on Israel's civilian population are utterly unacceptable.''

She urged both Israel and Hamas to exercise restraint, and said any escalation in the attacks by Hamas ''will not serve the interests of the Palestinian people or their cause for self-determination and statehood''.

''The government of Australia will work earnestly with other countries to end further attacks from Gaza and to encourage a de-escalation of this conflict,'' she said.

''We encourage regional countries, particularly Egypt, to support efforts to restore peace.

''The only way forward is a two-state solution based on direct negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.''

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact they are an occupied peoples who have been locked in Nazi style ghettos for over half a century with all freedoms and hopes removed.
Perhaps it is the constant bombing, shooting, maiming, torturing of Palestinians that has lead them to have to defend themselves.

Indonesian Officials Condemn Israel, But One Goes to Visit

While some Indonesian officials condemned Israel’s strike on Palestinians in Gaza, others are enjoying Israeli hospitality in Tel Aviv this week.

Mahfudz Shiddiq, head of House of Representatives Commission I, which oversees foreign affairs, said the world must isolate Israel for its attacks on Palestinians in Gaza. 8-)

Israel launched a military operation on Wednesday that resulted in the death of Hamas’s top military commander, followed by an onslaught of air strikes and shelling by tanks and naval gunboats. Eleven Palestinians, including two children and seven militants, have been killed and more than 100 wounded since the Israeli operation in Gaza began.

Hamas launched a rocket attack on Thursday in a revenge attack that killed three Israelis. “Like Indonesia, all Islamic countries must cut their ties with Israel, and not just withdraw their envoys,” Mahfudz said. “The Israeli imperialist regime must be isolated.” 8-)

He asked Indonesia, which has the highest Muslim population of any country, and other Association of Southeast Asian Nations members to bring the attacks on Palestinians to the UN Security Council and International Criminal Court. “Remember what Sukarno [Indonesia’s first president] said: all forms of occupation must end,” Mahfudz said, adding that the US should stop supporting Israel. ;)

He said that if US was sincere in its belief in the value of upholding human rights, the country should reject any form of Israeli occupation in Palestine. ::)

Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa on Friday issued a statement calling on all parties to refrain from actions that would further aggravate the situation and lead to more civilian casualties.

Indonesia called on all parties to go back to the negotiating table and seek a final solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
:(

"Indonesia believes that a sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in accordance with the principle of a two-state solution is the final solution to resolve the conflict," Marty said.

While officials in Jakarta have been eager to condemn Israel and the violence, a media outlet reported that an Indonesian official is a guest of the Israeli government in Tel Aviv.

Haaretz.com reported on Thursday that a representative of Indonesia’s highest security council, which is responsible for building the nation’s cyber protection and warfare infrastructure, has been attending an Israeli homeland security conference this week.

The Indonesian official, a guest of Ramzi Gabbay, chairman of the Israeli Export Institute, an arm of the Israeli Ministry of Industry and Trade, roamed the conference without a badge, though other attendees had them, the website reported.

According to Haaretz, Gabbay has been working on forging alliances between Israel and Indonesia, and a delegation from Indonesia is expected to visit Israel soon.

While Israel and Indonesia have never had diplomatic relations, trade between the two countries reached $750 million in 2008 and $450 million in 2009.

In 2009, the two nations established the Israel-Indonesia Chamber of Commerce, under the auspices of the Israel-Asia Chamber of Commerce.

The Israel-Indonesia chamber is headed by Emanuel Shahaf, a former Israeli diplomat and chief executive of the firm Technology Asia Consulting, according to Haaretz.

The current ties between Israel and Indonesia have been the brainchild of Abdurrahman Wahid, who was the president of Indonesia from 1999 to 2001 and earlier served Gus Dur served with the Jerusalem-based Simon Peres Peace Institute.

USA Strongly Defends Israels Violence And aggression Against Peace loving Palestinians...

Quote:
UNITED NATIONS: Arab nations demanded the UN Security Council condemn Israel’s deadly attacks on Gaza at an emergency meeting late Wednesday, but the United States strongly defended Israel’s military strikes. :-?

Egypt and other Arab states called for the emergency meeting after Israel staged more than 20 air strikes on the besieged Palestinian territory, killing Hamas military commander Ahmed Jaabari.

The 15-nation council did not condemn either side after the 90 minute meeting. Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s UN envoy and Security Council president, said: “All the statements that I heard resonated with one message — that the violence has to stop, there has to be de-escalation.” :(

Arab nations wanted the council “to condemn that barbaric attack” by Israel and “send a strong message to call for a cessation of hostilities,” said Sudan’s UN envoy Daffa-Alla Elhag Ali Osman, chairman of the Arab bloc at the UN. ::)

The United States strongly defended the actions of its key Middle East ally however. :(

Highlighting Israel’s claim that at least 768 rockets have been fired from Gaza this year,

US ambassador Susan Rice told the council: “Israel, like any nation, has the right to defend itself against such vicious attacks.”

“There is no justification for the violence that Hamas and other terrorist organizations are employing against the people of Israel. We call on those responsible to stop these cowardly acts immediately.”Rice, a frontrunner to become the next US secretary of state, said the rocket attacks were harming efforts to end the Middle East conflict and create a Palestinian state.

“Hamas claims to have the best interests of the Palestinian people at heart, yet it continues to engage in violence that does nothing but set back the Palestinian cause.

“Attacking Israel on a near daily basis does nothing to help Palestinians in Gaza nor to move the Palestinian people any closer to achieving self determination and independence,” Rice said.

Britain’s UN envoy Mark Lyall Grant also condemned rocket attacks into Israel but called on Israel “to act in a way that de-escalates tensions.”Only the Palestinian and Israeli ambassadors were allowed to address the meeting on top of the council envoys.

Palestinian envoy Riyad Mansour told the council that a child of 11 months, two other children and a pregnant 19-year-old woman were among at least nine dead from the attacks.

“Death, destruction, trauma and terror are being rained upon our people before the eyes of the world,” Mansour said. :(

“The international community must act to bring an end to Israel’s illegal policies and practices against the Palestinian people,” he added.
>:(

Mansour said the attacks were linked to the Palestinian application for observer status at the United Nations, which is due to be voted on by the UN General Assembly on November 29.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that the military operation could be expanded and the country’s UN ambassador Ron Prosor said:

“The goal of Israel’s operation is clearly defined — to remove a strategic threat to Israeli citizens.”

He told the council that Israel will not play “Russian roulette with the lives of our citizens.”

“Hamas has turned Gaza into a haven and a breeding ground for global terrorist organizations,” Prosor declared.

The Palestinian envoy said that if the council could not halt Israel’s attacks, the Palestinian Authority would come back and demand a formal condemnation of Israel.

He said this could include proposing a resolution, which the United States would almost certainly veto. The US administration uses its powers as a permanent member of the UN council to block any resolution condemning Israel.

Three Israelis killed as Hamas rockets rain down while 19 die in Gaza attacks

ISRAELI aircraft pummelled the rocket arsenals of Gaza militants on Friday and signaled a ground invasion might be growing near as troops, tanks and armored personnel carriers massed near Israel's southern border with the Palestinian territory.

Fighting between the two sides escalated sharply with a first-ever militant attack on the Tel Aviv area, menacing Israel's heartland.

No casualties were reported, but three people died in the country's rocket-scarred south when a projectile slammed into an apartment building.

The death toll in the densely populated Palestinian territory climbed to 19, including five children according to Palestinian health officials, as waves of Israeli fighter planes and drones sent missiles hurtling down on suspected weapons stores and rocket-launching sites.

Three Israelis dead as violence rages

Israel and Hamas had largely observed an informal truce since Israel's devastating incursion into Gaza four years ago, but rocket fire and Israeli airstrikes on militant operations didn't halt entirely.

Troops massing on the border

At least 12 trucks were seen transporting tanks and armored personnel carriers toward Gaza late Thursday, and buses carrying soldiers headed toward the border area.

Israeli TV stations said a Gaza operation was expected on Friday, though military officials said no decision had been made.

"We will continue the attacks and we will increase the attacks, and I believe we will obtain our objectives," said Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, Israel's military chief.

An Israeli ground offensive could be costly to both sides. In the last Gaza war, Israel devastated large areas of the territory, setting back Hamas' fighting capabilities but also paying the price of increasing diplomatic isolation because of a civilian death toll numbering in the hundreds.

Peace offering

Israel has agreed to halt a massive aerial campaign on the Gaza Strip during a visit Friday by Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil provided militants also hold their fire, an Israeli official said.

"Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu has agreed to an Egyptian request to cease fire during the visit to Gaza this morning by the Egyptian prime minister, a visit that is supposed to last some three hours," the senior official told AFP.

"In our response forwarded to the Egyptians, Israel has said that the IDF (Israeli military) will cease fire on the condition that during that period there won't be hostile fire from Gaza into Israel."

Israeli war planes carried out multiple new air strikes on the Gaza Strip, including several hits on Gaza City, early Friday, the third day of an intensive operation against Gaza militants, AFP reporters and Hamas security sources said.

Israel under fire

The Israeli Defence Force said more than 300 rockets had been fired at Israel in the past few days, with one rocket hitting the central city Rishon Lezion, about 60 km from the Gaza Strip.

The IDF said three people were killed when a rocket landed on their home.

The trail of an Israeli missile launched from the Iron Dome defence missile system is seen along the Gaza border in response to a rocket launched from the nearby Palestinian Gaza Strip on November 15, 2012. Israel will take "whatever action is necessary" to defend its citizens from Palestinian rocket attacks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said as the military pressed a massive operation in Gaza. AFP / Jack Guez

Palestinian deaths from relentless air strikes rose to 19 overnight Thursday.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard joined  a growing chorus of world leaders condemning the rocket attacks and urging both sides to show restraint.

"The Government condemns the repeated rocket and mortar attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip and calls on Hamas to cease these immediately,'' she said.

"Australia supports Israel's right to defend itself against these indiscriminate attacks. Such attacks on Israel's civilian population are utterly unacceptable."

Getting too close to peace for Israeli's comfort?

The last thing Israel wants is peace, it's not on their agenda for any time soon.

Long-term peace was within reach before Israeli attack

Israel has chosen to attack Gaza in order to avoid reaching a longer-term peace settlement that was being negotiated with the help of Hamas’ military leader Ahmen Jabari, who was assassinated in an Israeli attack Wednesday, says Israeli activist.

Israeli peace activist Gershon Baskin spoke to RT confirming that Ahmen Jabari was involved in peace settlement negotiations with Israel and was due to send Hamas’ version of a peace draft to Baskin on Wednesday evening before he was killed.

RT: So you're saying that a draft of a permanent truce agreement already existed. What went wrong then?

Gershon Baskin: It was initially drafted 8 months ago. It was presented to the Israelis, Hamas, Egyptian intelligence and the UN for deliberation. Both Israelis and Hamas decided not to agree. Over the last months the ceasefires got shorter and shorter and the intensity of the fighting increased. And I decided together with my counterpart in Hamas, we were instrumental in negotiating a prisoner exchange deal that led to freedom of Gilad Shaid, the Israeli soldier held in captivity by Mr. Jabari, we decided to push forward. My Hamas counterpart wrote a new version of the draft and he was presenting it to Hamas leaders. In fact on Wednesday morning he was presenting it to Ahmed Jabari himself. I was supposed to receive later that evening the copy of the draft in Arabic for me to deliver to the Israelis who were waiting for it along with Egyptian intelligence.

RT: What is Israel's endgame here? What are they hoping to achieve?

GB: I don’t know how you define an end game at this point. They stated that the aim is to create deterrence. How do you determine that you created enough deterrence? Is it when you have killed enough people? Destroyed enough of the infrastructure? Destroyed enough buildings? I don’t know how you define it. What we have here is a bigger chance of escalation for a ground operation. We have to recall that Hamas rockets that they shoot into Israel are what we call a statistical weapon. They usually fall into open space, but they can fall onto a school bus, supermarket, apartment building and we can have major casualties. And if it does happen we will have a ground operation.

Unfortunately evidence and reality suggests otherwise.
How can peace even be possible when it continues to illegally and militarily occupy Palestinian lands, force millions of innocent people into Nazi style ghettos, kill, torture and completely ruin the lives of an entire society consisting of millions of innocent people.
Lie to yourself if you want but do not lie to others.

why all the false flag attacks

to ancient fire gods here

this is their ancient religion

http://carm.org/christianity/miscellaneous-topics/moloch-ancient-pagan-god-child-sacrifice

Moloch, the ancient pagan God of child sacrifice.

Moloch was one of the false gods that Israel would worship during its periods of apostasy.  This false deity is associated with Ammon in 1 Kings 11:7, "Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable idol of Moab, on the mountain which is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the detestable idol of the sons of Ammon."

One of the practices of the cult that worshipped Moloch was to sacrifice their children.   Of course, this was forbidden by God's word: Lev. 18:21 says, "Neither shall you give any of your offspring to offer them to Molech, nor shall you profane the name of your God; I am the Lord."  (See also Lev. 18:21; 20:2-5; 2 Kings. 23:10; Jer. 32:35).

In some passages the reference is clearly to a deity to whom human sacrifice was made, particularly in the Valley of Hinnom on the SW of the Jerusalem hill (2 Ki. 23:10; Je. 32:35) at a site known as Topheth (‘fire pit’ in Syriac).1

The ancients would heat this idol up with fire until it was glowing, then they would take their newborn babies, place them on the arms of the idol, and watch them burn to death.  I can't help but compare today's abortion massacre to the sacrifice of children by these ancient pagans.  In both, innocent life is destroyed for the gain of the parent.

this is their religion

Quote:
The incursion and bombardment of Gaza is not about destroying Hamas. It is not about stopping rocket fire into Israel, it is not about achieving peace.

The Israeli decision to rain death and destruction on Gaza, to use lethal weapons of the modern battlefield on a largely defenseless civilian population, is the final phase in a decades-long campaign to ethnically-cleanse Palestinians.

Israel uses sophisticated attack jets and naval vessels to bomb densely-crowded refugee camps, schools, apartment blocks, mosques, and slums to attack a population that has no air force, no air defense, no navy, no heavy weapons, no artillery units, no mechanized armor, no command in control, no army… and calls it a war. It is not a war, it is murder.

When Israelis in the occupied territories now claim that they have to defend themselves, they are defending themselves in the sense that any military occupier has to defend itself against the population they are crushing. You can't defend yourself when you're militarily occupying someone else's land. That's not defense. Call it what you like, it's not defense.

Considering how restrictive Zionism can be over Jews its amazing that anyone can break free from their propaganda and conditioning.
There are huge numbers of Jews, Rabbis, Israelis and everyone else who oppose Israel and that number is growing every second. With the internet it is becoming harder for the Zionist scum to lie so blatantly like they need to.

That's true. I saw a video of the good jews getting arrested when the IDF was tearing down the houses of the Palestinians. There's a fairly big leftist thinking following that detest what the fanatics are doing to the Palestinians. They are the real fair dinkum rabbi's that live true to their teachings, they hate the war and the hatred. I think if you asked most Israeli's they'd opt for peace and to give the Palestinians back at least a good hunk of their land.

A good start will be to go with the  original United Nations agreement that formed the state of israel in 1947...The borders are clearly marked.

But now the borders are something like this...(Green = Palestinian land)

But yet the Israelis say the they are the victims.

Avram,
That's a simpletons explanation.
The Jews were well armed & prepared - that in itself means that both sides took up arms.

Its not just the physical restrictions but the psychological ones.
Anyone who exposes Israel for what it is is labeled anti Semitic and many other things, that's one thing if your not a jew but if you are one you risk a lot to speak the truth.
But as the number of people who expose Israel grows the growth will become exponential (if it hasn't already) One person exposing can help possibly dozens to do the same..The more who speak the truth, the easier it is for others to as well.
People who say protesting is pointless forget that change doesn't happen over night.

You don't understand?
You complain that the borders has moved and we don't have UN states borders of 1947.
The reason why is that immediately just 1 day after the UN sets up the states, the Arabs attacked and tried to remove all the Jewish state.

The Arabs have attacked every time when the borders move.

If the Arabs had not attacked they would have the 1947 borders they want.
It is their own fault.

Danny Danon: Send African migrants to Australia

Quote:
Likud MK and Australian MP discuss "humane solution" for thousands of 'Muslim infiltrators' in Israel: Send them to live down under.

MK Danny Danon (Likud) asked Australian MP Michael Danby on Wednesday to propose, in parliament in Canberra, sending African migrants from Israel to Australia.

Danon and Danby discussed the issue during the Australian politician’s visit to Israel for the World Jewish Congress’s International Conference of Jewish Parliamentarians.

“The arrival of thousands of Muslim infiltrators to Israeli territory is a clear threat to the state’s Jewish identity,” Danon told The Jerusalem Post.

“The refugees’ place is not among us, and the initiative to transfer them to Australia is the right and just solution.

“On the one hand, it treats the refugees and migrants in a humane way. On the other hand, it does not threaten Israel’s future and our goal to maintain a clear and solid Jewish majority,” he explained.

Danon said Danby enthusiastically agreed to present the idea to the Australian Parliament.

Danby was not available for comment, however, as he was in-flight on his way back to Australia.

According to the Knesset’s Research and Information Center, there were 35,638 migrants in Israel as of May.

Fewer than 1 percent are recognized by the UN as refugees.

Some 61% of the migrants – 21,748 people – are Eritrean, however, and categorized as members of a “temporary humanitarian protection group” by the UN, because they cannot be returned safely to their home country due to internal strife.

“Since Australia has a policy of accepting refugees and groups under protection, I would appreciate it if you could promote a solution in which Australia would accept those who seeking refuge,” Danon wrote in a letter to the MP from Melbourne following their meeting.

Of course it's different. They were split up, but unlike Israelis, the people that resided in the area still live there today.

Blah blah anti-semitism blah blah.

Its just a word. Devoid of any real meaning - its not even a real word. The word semite is what israelis AND palestinians fall under. However you ppl seem to think it means the religion jewish which is even sillier. Why should anyone be insulted about not liking a religion? What do you call ppl that dont like muslims?

The Palestinians bomb Israel to provoke a reaction. Inevitably the Israelis, with superior weaponry and expertise, kill far more Arabs than the Palestinians kill Jews.

If the Israelis were to follow Jesus' teachings and turn the other bum cheek, the rockets would soon stop.

Quote:
But the children of the kingdom [Jews] shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. - Matt 8:12

Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. - Matt 25:41

Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. - Matt 10:34
