Title: Will Coalition Wind Back The Tax Free Threshold. Post by imcrookonit on Nov 5th, 2012 at 7:13am
Prepared as Treasury attempts to come to grips with a suite of Coalition policies yet to be announced, the analysis includes only those to which it has publicly committed. Excluded are policies with a negative but uncertain impact on business, such as winding back the recent increase in the employee tax-free threshold from $6000 to $18,200. :-?

Lifting this tax free threhold, has archived nothing excepted stopping low income earners get there tax back.
so what might be go for the average person is bad for the low income earner. |

Low income earners now pay less tax? The only money they or anyone gets back is when they pay extra. If low income earners were to keep paying the same tax they would get back thousands more. |

What a dumb statement ,people don't have to pay tax until they earn 350 bucks a week AND as proven on here a couple of weeks still keep the low income rebate as well as not having to put in tax returns, FMD the rightards are dumb. As for the thread title, YES phony tony has said he will repeal the price on carbon that in turn means he will take away all that extra money that low Income earners now get as well as asking for the money back that Labor gave families, probably via higher taxes, what else can he do? He claims to be responsible, he can't let everyone keep it if he removes the price on carbon. |

you really have no idea do you? you can only get back what you have overpaid .... lifting the threshold means they pay less ... |

you can only get back what you have overpaid .... it's a refund, not a gift from the government ... its money you have been overcharged ... a bit like if you pay $500 towards your electricity bill and it comes in at $300, the electricity provider should refund $200 .... if you used to earn $15 000, you would have had to pay tax .... now you don't .... |

by the way, what you pay is not returned if you claim it ... claims are taken of your total taxable income , and not tax payable... what is returned is the difference in tax between your original taxable income, and the new figure of taxable income after allowing for claims . eg, taxable income $100 000, tax payable $30 000 ....if you claim $10 000 in deductions then taxable income is reduced to $$90 000 meaning your tax payable is now $28 000 ... if you had paid the $30 000 in tax over the year you would now get a refuind of $2000 . (by the way, the figures I have used are purely as an example, I have not used real tax rates) |

Offsets actually, which is just code for "If you are an australian citizen you get it". Still doesnt change the fact you didnt pay tax until you made about $17,000. |

You may have got it back as a rebate but you still had to do a tax return and wait until you got your refund before you got it back. Now people that earn such a small amount do not have to lodge a tax return at all. |

Well considering the new tax system did not start until July one this year you would have to lodge as per usual this year. ::) why do people that have no freaking idea bother to start threads like this? ::) |

Mine came within 2 days of lodging. They musta been waiting for it hahaha
Anyway i am wondering if abbott or any lib for that matter would remove that threshold if they got in. It was far too low and hadnt been put up in a great many years. It wasnt "compensation" for the carbon price any more than anything else the govt did. The pensioners were due a rise and the school kids "bonus" took away their existing perks. Nobody got anything so if the libs take any of it away ppl will be worse off. SOB |

This qualifies as the stupidest thing I've read on these boards & that's saying something. So you pay tax, the government spends it, then it magically reappears & the government gives it back? Why would the government waste time collecting in the 1st place? Why not just use the magic pudding? Did you go to The Honkonmics School of Money Management? |

stupidest??? I'm not sure of that, but its definately a top-ten candidate. Borgs claim to have flown as a passenger in an F111 with John Howard is probably stupider. |
