Honesty is the best policy: Turnbull swipes at Abbott and 'deficit of trust'
MALCOLM TURNBULL has decried the state of political discourse in Australia, saying it had deteriorated to such an extent that the nation suffered "a deficit of trust" and there was an urgent need for honesty in politics. In comments that are bound to be construed as critical of the style of Tony Abbott, Mr Turnbull cited his own keen area of interest, the science of climate change, as a victim of what passed these days for political debate. Delivering a lecture in Perth last night, Mr Turnbull said it was an inescapable fact that greenhouse gases caused the earth to warm. "Politicians and shock jocks, scientists and coal barons, all of them can argue for as long as they like, but they cannot change the physical reality," he said. "I won't linger on climate change – the hopeless, confused, hyper-partisan nature of the debate is too well known to rehearse. Tony Abbott and the faithful have no problem denying science and ignoring experts when the evidence does not support their bullshit.....One must ask the question who will Tony Abbott listen to if he becomes PM.....I suspect the door will be wide open for the Christian lobby and big business but closed to science and reality.....Abbott will be a complete disaster and Turnbull knows it!!!

Well, if we want to talk about DIShonesty then we should of course remember the words from Temporary Tony himself:
"Sometimes in the heat of discussion you go a little bit further than you would if it was an absolutely calm, considered, prepared, scripted remark." or to rephrase for you cods (because I know you have trouble remembering to the end of such a long sentence), Tony says: "I don't think twice about lying through my teeth" |

Here's an idea Shane,
Instead of Turnbull leaving the party he has been a member of since the 70's (probably longer than Tone) Why don't you & Tone & the rest of you piss poor imitations of the GOP bugger off & form your own CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE Party? That would leave the LIBERAL PARTY to funnily enough LIBERALS, not parasitic conservatives who know they'd have no hope on their own. |

Direct action is not always funded by taxation.
I can tell you this from experience. There is a hydro facility outside of Haifa that was built by the Government to improve energy delivery away from traditional source. It was not funded from taxes. |

Title: Re: Turnbull swipes at Abbott Post by Avram Horowitz on Sep 6th, 2012 at 12:32pm
what about grants?
Funded private investment? All of this can come from before the facility is operational? Toyota part funded the hydro facility in Haifa to use water for energy. None of this came from taxes. I think a tax on people for climate action is absurd - from any political party. It is not the people who should pay for any of this. |

We have looked at this tax in the university economics classes and the costs to pay for the penalizing of the larger companies will be passed on to the consumer in Australia. So they pay no tax $$ but they will eventually be paying for this change. The average aussie in the street will pay for the climate action plan. That is not in doubt. I am saying that this should not happen - no $$ from direct action and no $$ from added cost because of a penalty to providers. There are other ways and it is lazy to not look at them. |

Title: Re: Turnbull swipes at Abbott Post by Avram Horowitz on Sep 6th, 2012 at 12:41pm
Yes they are.
The carbon tax penalizing the polluters will be passed to the consumer in increased prices and the australian consumer will pay for their penalty this way. So both of your political parties are having your everyday person pay for the cost of climate change - one by passing the costs in bills and living. The other - if they choose direct action by tax - in taxes. However look this way - if they choose direct action by tax - if they dont increase your taxes you see no difference. But with your current Government plan - you are paying more on top? Yes? |

True the consumer will pay but has the choice, as the market will decide if companies that just pass on the full increase continue to be patronized or if companies that change practice to mitigate costs & therefore are cheaper will win. I know who I'm backing. Also whilst the consumer might not notice a cost funded by tax they will sure notice when services currently funded by that money disappear or cost more. |

Title: Re: Turnbull swipes at Abbott Post by Avram Horowitz on Sep 6th, 2012 at 12:48pm
how does the consumer have the choice when all electricity companies will increase their cost?
When the price of gas will increase across the companies? They dont have a choice when all of them increase do they? Be honest, costs will increase as a result of your Government's scheme. I have the scheme in the workbook in front of me from our economics discussions in university - it will cost the australian consumer. Now if you do direct action - you only see the increase if they increase tax. If they don't you are not worse than when you began - they simply make room in the budget cutting elsewhere yes? |

Title: Re: Turnbull swipes at Abbott Post by Avram Horowitz on Sep 6th, 2012 at 2:14pm
You need to be strong.
You need to say - this is why we should not pay. There should be private investment. If there is to be taxes to fund - then take from other areas which do not harm your country or the citizens. I don't have a Aussie political view on your parties, it is not my say - but i do have a view on climate change. It should be the world's worst polluters who must take the most action and then other countries work to provide private investment. I just gave you one example of the Hydro plant funded by Toyota. I know several others, my uncle's company is a major investor in a wind power generation funded by investment, USA grants and from Government land lease. No tax, no price increase. Just energy. You are taking the easy option and hitting the taxpayer in both your ideas. |

I am with shane regarding paid maternity leave as well.. we give this generation enough..they are worse than any welfare group they really are.. maybe if you didnt agree with the messiah on everything that comes our of her mouth... you would have a different perspective as well.. just because someone us on here or Turnbull doesnt agree with everything that Abbott does.. doesnt mean we dont want him as the Leader.. Abbott doesnt need his boots licked every morning. like some do.I am sure he would prefer honesty to lies and back stabbing. |

I don't think I've ever denied that I am a arrogant son of a bitch, in fact I wear it as a badge of honour. I have very little time for fools, which probably explains my low tolerance for most politicians today, especially Abbott & his bunch of deceitful clowns. Sometime I go overboard but as you know personally I will admit my mistake & apologize to those i have upset or offended. Don't bother with the usual comeback to the deceitful clown remark, I know it, I acknowledge it, but Abbott is lying to you, you know & fail to acknowledge it. |
