They've tried molesting whales and humping trees
They got lucky because of a desperate Gillard trying to hang onto power But what happens post-2013 when the ALP dump the Greens like a carbon emitting t#rd??!! |

There is bipartisan support for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The greens will have no problem finding allies.

Why should more developed countries be allowed to maintain higher levels of pollution?
As the major contributors to the problem shouldn't they carry a larger responsibility for fixing the problem. That's the Australian way, Avram. |

Lets assume for one moment the Greens can prove that humans reducing their carbon emissions will reduce global temperature.
The argument here is - should the human race be accountable for it or is it a nationality (per capita) issue? Can the atmosphere tell the difference between an Asian carbon emission, an American carbon emission, an Indian carbon emission etc. As I see it - a carbon emission is a carbon emission whether it's come from a Ferrari or an Eskimo's butt. If the issue is carbon emissions then why are we fighting over a "per capita argument". If the ship it sinking do we say that only left-handers get to bail out and the rest sits by? Or does everybody bail? Even if you have women and children - they too must bail even though they can only carry smaller buckets. If there are 5 men on board carrying 5L buckets and 200 women and children carrying 500mL buckets - I wonder which group could achieve greater expulsion of water??!! The argument from the less developed countries (weaker) is that they are in their developing phase therefore should be given a fair go in getting to where the developed countries (stronger) are before they look at their emissions. Its like the 200 women and children saying - lets wait until they grow bigger muscles before they should be made to bail water. If urgent global action is needed then everyone should act. Facts are - it's not!!! |

No one is making this assumption. Reducing GHGs will limit the amount of the rise. A significant rise is already locked into the system. Quote:
We can agree that it doesn't matter where in the world the carbon is released into the atmosphere it has the same effect on temperature. Quote:
If we were locked into a closed system with a fixed amount of rations how would you share out the rations. Would those who had been gorging be allowed to gorge at their old rate. I guess if you were a gorger you might be happy with that outcome. I'm not sure the others in the system would agree with you. Quote:
There are plenty of threads that discuss the evidence of global warming. Rather than dilute this thread how about we stick to discussing how we should reduce GHG emissions if that was what we wanted to achieve. |

No -that is not really correct. The USA and EU are responsible for the majority of historical emissions. CO2 remains in the atmosphere for about 100 years. It is these that is causing the problem now. China and India are certainly a problem for the future - but the problem must be addressed now - and China and India are not the ones that caused it. Until those responsible - USA, EU, AUSTRALA etc start to take action - how can anyone expect fo those with a fraction of the per capita emissions to take notice |

So why should people in India and China have less entitlement than us. Why are you happy for the people of India and China to carry most of the load? You are quite happy to make other people pay for your lifestyle. If it's not racism and your inability to empathise with the people of the developing world, perhaps you are motivated by naked self interest. I believe you are a racist, Avram, and that is what blinds you to the position of other people. By the way your last sentence is oxymoronic. Making racist statements about Australians doesn't really help your claim that you are not a racist. And dare I state the elephant in the room. That's rubbish. I will point out some obvious things- 1. The earth is harmed by emissions. China is the worlds worst polluter, they are also building coal power stations at a rate of 3 every week. From the 3 worlds worst polluters who make half of the whole world - only the USA is actively aiming to lower their output. Both China and India are not even trying. 2. A per capita argument classes Falkland Islands as a worse problem than China who pollute one third of the total. Falklands pollute 0.000001% of total. 3. A comment of something being "racist" is the last throw of a dice when no argument is there. 4. I hate to point out but you are from a developed world country and ignoring my USA citizenship, I am born and live in the developing world. It is a bit absurd for you to accuse me of being against the developing world. I look at the problem and want to fix. The problem is the worlds worst polluter is not even trying to reduce when everyone else is. 4. I come from a country which has invested more in new energy than most anyone. I know what is needed. 5. As for racist, I am middle eastern with heritage from east Europe and a people who were persecuted. I think I am not a racist. |

We can put man on the moon with more accuracy than we can predict the behaviours of humans. We can split sub-atomic particles with more accuracy than we can strike at the social problem of world hunger, asylum seekers, wars, inequality etc. My point? This is a firm demonstrable fact that increased violence and lack of restraint directly correlates with breakdown of traditional family units & parental failure to raise children in a properly structured positive environment where they learn the rewards of good behavior and the consequences of bad behavior...The social engineers obviously want to live in a world with no consequences for their actions...so did Adolf Hitler... I am also not anti Government -I am pro constitutional democratic Government and the rule of law. I am anti faceless unelected central planning committees - especially foreign ones dictating the policy of our parliament. The sales of the strategic agricultural asset Cubbie Station to the Chinese Government for instance was ordered by the world bank and the trilateral commission and that is illegal and unacceptable...I challenge the Government to deny publicly they are not acting on foreign orders...and why are they trying to silence dissenters like Barnaby Joice? :) :) |
