Fiji could host right-to-die clinic

A prominent euthanasia advocate says Fiji is seriously considering his offer to set up a clinic to assist terminally ill Australians to die.

Dr Phillip Nitschke, head of Exit International, has written to Fiji's attorney-general with the proposal, and says his organisation is now hoping to go to Fiji to discuss the details.

He has told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program the facility in Nadi would operate in similar way to the Dignatas clinic in Switzerland, which has assisted in the deaths of about 1,000 foreigners since 1998.

"People who are...terminally ill, would be able to make a much easier journey from countries in the Pacific, such as Australia or New Zealand, to Fiji, where at a particularly clinic they would be able to be given the best of the end-of-life drugs," he said.

"If they wished to take [the drugs], they would, and I suppose if they didn't, they wouldn't.

"It would allow people to have access to a peaceful death in an environment where the process was sanctioned, as opposed to the situation we have here in Australia and some other countries, where such procedures are not possible because of the legality of the issue."

Dr Nitschke says Fiji has asked for more information on his proposal.

He says while the struggling Fijian economy would likely see the benefits from the centre, he does not believe that is the motivation.

"The reality is that it's a very humane process, and a country which shows some compassion and concern for its neighbours, I think would entertain such ideas," he said.

"The fact that Australia can't bring itself to go down this path says more about Australia, so we are hoping that we see attitudes in a country like Fiji that we see in some of the more enlightened countries of Europe, and some of the states of America, where they have chosen to go down this path, because they believe it is humane and passionate."

Only the rich and  Nazi class will be able to afford this...its not as if they will be sending us  untermensch over there...and remember we are the ones Nazi Nitschke - Dr Death wants to Euthanize... ;) ;)

You will find $200 is a lot for people in my situation...we are not the kind that has passports and such...we wont be the ones using the jet set option of leaving this world - enjoy ... :) :)

Also you can sell the computer and all the other items you have around that will not be taken with you.

A Passport is just a little paperwork.

Death and Dignity should be a human right for anyone of sound mind and desire.

And remember its V.E....you cant force anyone to go to Fiji - so only losers like the loons pushing for smoking bans, carbon taxes, dictating our free customs illegally in the parliament ect will be able to go...most of us you want Euthanized do not want it so we wont go...so we will watch you all off and sing you the last farewell and dont ye no come back no more and wish you luck as we wave you goodbye... ;) ;)

So Greenie are you now promoting a country with terrible human rights.

Having to buy 3 seats for your size is your problem
