Qld to change law to remove job security

Date
    August 23, 2012 -

The Queensland government will push legislation through parliament to kill off a Supreme Court challenge to its reforms of the public service.    :(

The legislation will enshrine in law controversial directives issued last month for public employees.

The directives wipe out the employment-security and contracting clauses in current Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBA) for the state's 200,000 public servants, except police and health workers.    :(

Attorney General Jarrod Bleijie says the clauses are overly restrictive and make reform of the public service difficult and cumbersome.

Together, the public servants' union, and the Queensland Council of Unions launched a legal challenge against the directives last week in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.

Together's Alex Scott says the bid to make them law clearly shows the government knew it would lose in court.

"This as a desperate attempt by a chaotic government to remove ... the role of the judiciary," he told AAP.

"It hamstrings ... the Supreme Court."

Voters, as well as the Liberal National Party's (LNP) major donor Clive Palmer, appear to have turned against the government and its jobs and services purge.    :)

A ReachTel poll of 1200 Queenslanders, commissioned by the public service union, found on average 60 per cent thought the cuts had gone too far.

Only 38 per cent said they would put the LNP as their first preference, and 56 per cent said they were now less likely to vote for the party at the next election.

"These polls are a clear wake-up call for the government," Mr Scott told reporters in Brisbane.    ;)

Mr Scott also confirmed rumours that Mr Palmer had approached the union to donate to its counselling and advice service for public servants whose jobs are cut.

Mr Palmer distanced himself further from the LNP on Thursday after a fortnight of public stoushes, announcing he would no longer seek preselection for the party in the next federal election.

The premier suggested Mr Palmer is the Labor Party's "new best friend" and would start donating to them instead.     ;D

Mr Newman apologised for the anxiety the job cuts was causing to public servants but said they were victims of the Labor Party's excessive hiring.    ::)

"Unfortunately we are the ones who are cleaning up Anna Bligh's mess," he told parliament.

"We get the pooper scooper out every day of the week. We have to make these tough decisions."

The only employment that has government employment-security, is their ability to sign government forms for the dole.

We the people are not the lazy union workers bank, slave, whatever you want to call it.

These sacked public servants should moved to Victoria

Baillieu's "BUNYIP - FORCE 1" are now employing

White hunter, black cat
August 23, 2012

THE cats are back on top of the ladder. No, not the Tom Hawkins variety, but the big wild ones supposedly roaming country Victoria.

They have climbed back up the ladder of government priorities after a mid-season rejection.

That is, the Victorian Government has launched an investigation into whether the mythical big cats exist.

It's an issue that arouses much excitement in country Victoria, with everyone knowing someone who reckons they have seen a big cat.

There have been reported sightings for more than 60 years across the length and breadth of the state, with particular focus on the Grampians and the Gippsland high country.

Legend abounds as to why the big cats -- usually black -- could be out there.

They include the popular theory US servicemen in Australia during World War II had black panthers as mascots of their squadrons. With the war over, they released the panthers before heading home.

(The mind boggles as to how they would have got them here in the first place.)

And then there are tales of cats escaping from zoos, and the most popular theory that domestic cats have developed into super creatures over many generations, killing bigger and bigger wildlife and livestock to survive.

Whatever the origin, there have been enough "sightings" of big cats for Nationals leader Peter Ryan -- then in opposition -- to boldly declare the Coalition would launch an investigation into the existence of the big cats if it won government.

Not quite on the scale of making Victorian teachers the best-paid in the nation, but a promise nonetheless.

Of course, those promises can come back to bite you when you actually win government -- as Ryan and Premier Ted Baillieu know full well.

But, while the teachers' pay promise stole the limelight, the big-cat investigation languished in the bottom draw.

So dead was the big-cat issue, the Government actually declared a month or so ago that the investigation would not go ahead.

But then, bizarrely, Agriculture Minister Peter Walsh has announced the investigation will go ahead.

Bizarrely, because his department has been hit by job cuts and office closures, so you would think this would hardly be a priority.

But Mr Walsh said he had "sufficient departmental resources available" to don the pith helmets and head off on a Burke-and-Wills-type expedition.

Unfortunately, it's not nearly so exciting.

"The study will review existing literature, reports, correspondence and other evidence for the presence of big cats in Victoria, and it includes liaison with relevant community groups and individuals who have reports or records of possible sightings," he told The Weekly Times.

Alas, Peter Ryan won't be leading an expedition into the high country. There'll be no LandCruisers getting bogged, no machetes hacking through thick undergrowth and no tins of baked beans exploding in the campfire.

Just some pen-pushers looking at grainy photos and essays written by (very, very) enthusiastic big-cat experts.

Of course, the Opposition is having kittens (pun intended) over the Government making big cats a priority in a time of austerity and budget cuts.

And you can imagine public servants who have lost their jobs greeting the news in wide-eyed amazement.

As for the investigation, there can only be one definite answer at the end of the inquiry.

It will either be "yes" big cats do exist in country Victoria. Or they don't know.

No amount of research will ever be able to completely discount they are out there.

The moment they do, someone will see another mysterious form run across a road near Jamieson and we'll be back to square one.

The bligh labor government left QLD with a debt of $65 billion and that needs to paid off with a budget of $42 bil.

Newman needs more than a pooper scooper he needs a D11 Dozer to get us out of the sh1t that labor managed to put us in.

It is no fun for the public servants, but what is the solution?

Surely there is someone in the public service who has a better idea on how to fix this right royal bugger up, then present it. Unless you have a better solution, I suggest you shut up and get out of the way.

the lazy union workers

I would think that most union workers would typically work a lot harder than non union people.

And you would be wrong. Very very wrong.

Go to any work site where there is a mix of union and non union and see the difference in production, safety and quality.

The more militant the union the worse the worker.

I have seen as many or more Lazy workers in the private domain as Publlic.

I have worked with unionised workforces who were extremely productive and private groups who were at least 50% lazy and useless.

You need to go back about 20 years to find a militant union but I see than Mr Newman is trying his best to bring them back.

The Dole is not a regular scource of income, therefore it is not recognized as income by financial institutions.

face it people if you want to blame someone for these government job cut, lay the blame squarly at the feet of the former labour govenment of Anna Bligh, that wasted our great country of Queensland money, sold off assets like railway and forestry, but with all that the state was still broke. ie lost the money they had in assests to multi national compananys.

the QR national company will soon be owned by money and consortium from India and be let by Perter Corigan formly with Toll, rember the port strike a few years ago.

Good Morning,

Mr Newman will be handing down is inaugural budget on Tuesday 11 September.

I think it would be best to reserve comments on any job cuts until we see further details.

It pains me to see this happening, but sadly, given the financial mess that Ms Bligh left Queensland in, some tough decisions will be made.

I wish Campbell well and know that he will do a stellar job. He's been very impressive so far. His mother, Jocelyn, was a Federal Liberal Senator for many years.

And a yacht too, with gold taps, not gold plated but  24 carat solid gold.

And after that I hear he is going to buy himself a Gulfstream G6 with seats made out of baby seal fur.

He just needs to fire 200 000 teachers, doctors, nurses, ambos and firies to pay for it all.
