Title: Don't be surprised if Labor wins the next election
Post by TheGreenLight on Jul 26th, 2012 at 12:05pm
I watched 7.30 last night and Julia was very impressive. She demonstrated her clear passion for standing up for the lower and working class, and spoke very well and effectively. When the election approaches, most Australins will come to see that the Coalition have no policies and no vision. All they want is power, and a return to extreme policies like work choices. Meanwhile, Labor and the Greens will stand up for those who do it tough. The choice will be clear. 12 months is a very long time in politics. They have plenty of time.

Yes of course GreenLight, it most certainly is possible. Labor could very well win the 2013 election.    ;)

You think that matters? The majority of voters make decisions based on what they read/view in the media.

And the media want you to think this country's going down the drain - this sells.

It's got to be a first: a government thrown out of office with low unemployment, low interest rates, no big foreign wars. Julia will be thrown out simply because people don't trust her.

Mind you, they don't trust Abbott either, but they see him as the worse of two evils. Personally, I can't remember an election that has been faught on such a fickle agenda - and where the choices are as stark as they are now. I might even vote Labor for the first time - they're pretty much a minority party.

Still, it's hardly an election. The Governor General might as well announce a Liberal government now. Labor have no chance of getting in whatsoever.

Democracy is a myth. Abbott will be the next PM. As far as the corrupt unions and the carbon tax fixes and the shonky Labor spin go, I can't think of a worse path for this country to go in than an Abbott-led government.

Possible path, that is. Fascism and communism are not really on the agenda.

But Abbott is.

I watched 7.30 last night

Along with 5% of Australians.

However I would expect nothing else from you. I will admit her style is changing, but speaking in a more controlled and quiet manner doesn't make swinging voters suddenly show trust.

5% indeed, most of which would be school teachers and public servants.

They don't have a chance ATM
Their chance will come when Liberals release policy.
However that will be as late as possible with the least amount of supporting information possible.

After all you can't have an informed electorate, you might not win.

The Coalitions policies will be fully costed by the newly-established Parliamentary Budget Office.

What the one they refuse to use now or the one they create after gaining office?
Do you think they'll employ any WA accountants?

Quote:
Federal parliament has begun debating the merits of a new independent unit which would cost election promises and policies for all parliamentarians.

But one of the more controversial aspects of the Gillard Government’s bill for a Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) – making all costings immediately public – is being hotly contested, with Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey introducing a private members' bill to keep costings secret during the election period.

Mr Hockey has said the Opposition would not use the PBO unless the rules were changed.

Your blind faith is quite touching if not a little naive.

Sorry Smithy, your news is a bit old. This is more up-to-date:

JOURNALIST:
The government is about to announce, apparently, the Parliamentary Budget Office. Can you give us a sense of what use you would make of that and what limitations you would put on it?

JOE HOCKEY:
We will make use of it. We actually had a large number of proposed amendments to the Parliamentary Budget Office legislation. I thought they were amendments that were very worthwhile and maybe one day Labor will be in opposition and they will really regret they didn't support those amendments, I would suspect. But we will work with the Parliamentary Budget Office through the framework that I've outlined. We will send policies where it is appropriate to the Parliamentary Budget Office and ask them to provide advice on it. We're very keen to find out who the key personnel are and if they are independent and honourable people then we will use that Parliamentary Budget Office as a very positive initiative.

So did he get his PM bill through or not.
Will costing be released or not during the campaign, & if not what's the point of it?

Who determines whether a policy is appropiate?

No, the PM Bill wasn't supported by the Government.

As Mr Hockey said, they will make use the Parliamentary Budget Office to cost their policies.

I'm sure Labor will be putting their policies to the PBO, it would be very silly for the Liberals not to do the same.

You mean that a combined ALP/Greens team will put an end to organisations seeking volunteers and donations? An end to the sight of people selling yellow ribbons on Daffodil Day? An end to the sight of people selling red noses on Red Nose Day to raise funds for SIDS? What a beautiful future awaits us. How can I join the ALP/Greens "We Care for the Struggling, Infirm, Afflicted, Frail AUSTRALIANS?

Maybe the ALP/Greens team could help the people at Bear Cottage. Maybe the team might pay to have guide dogs trained rather than people volunteering their time to train guide dogs. Boy I'm excited.

On what page of the ALP/Greens' manifesto will I find the promise to aid Australian care organisations.

Quote:
how do volunteers help?

Bear Cottage relies heavily on a fabulous team of volunteers to assist with the smooth day to day running of the house. Volunteers complement the professional staff by providing practical support to our children and families during their stay. We ask that our volunteers are flexible and willing to help out wherever a need arisies within the house, this encompasses many diverse areas including:

Working alongside the play therapist & nursing staff with activities for the patients and their siblings such as play, craft, reading stories or taking them on outings
Assisting staff with practical activities such as cooking, cleaning & gardening
Taking visitors on tours of the house
Speaking externally to community groups who support Bear Cottage
Driving families to outings or appointments
    Walking our dog Frankie
    Administrative assistance

Volunteers need to show flexibility and a willingness to help out wherever there is a need.

Find out how to become a volunteer.

I couldn't have said it any better. She was great on 7.30 wasn't she? Passionate, caring and empathic. THAT is the real Julia, not the way that the media makes her out to be. I still have faith that the electorate will wake up to Abbott, and realise how good Julia has been for the country, and will be into the future. She's still in with a chance.

I'd like to think the same  TGL,  :).

That Australians, when it comes to the crunch, will make the right decision.

Hopefully they'll have had their fun  :-?  and realise what is the BEST OPTION.

I continue to be appalled at the partisan behaviour of the media. It has muted a little, since its BECOME CLEAR that the Slipper affair,  AND the Thomson affair, are looking more and more like what they are....corrupt and traitorous actions to  bring down this government.

Abbott is complicit and culpable,  and so are way too many other LNP heavyweights.

IT SHOWS SO CLEARLY THE CONTEMPT THE LNP HAVE FOR THE PEOPLE OF AUSTRALIA.

They really think we are stupid.!!
And SADLY ...the morons in QLD who VOTED in the NEWMAN LNP GOVERNMENT seem to prove that THEY ARE RIGHT.

And I suspect, many of those LNP voters are now marching in the streets.
No sympathy from me...... morons.! :(

But Abbott is.

really?? howard was kicked out with a booming economy LOWER unemplyment, no debt, budget surplus and every indicator better than the current govt.

We just go around in circles, voting one lot of failures out to replace them with another lot.

Most voters haven't advanced enough to think beyond the two major parties. They might start to think for themselves when things get really bad, which they will.

Yes I think you are right pansi1951.  Things probably will get worse, before they get better.   Both Labor and Liberal, are not honest about the true level of unemployment.  One also wonders if they have the answers.  Just look at the Liberal states, which are about to sack thousands of public servants.  What about Mr Abbott, he wont or cant even spell out his industrial relations plans.  One wonders why is that?.  Could it be because it may be similar to work choices ( No Choice. )     :(

Yep..Labor will probably lose the next election but they are only half way through their term and anything can happen especially when Abbott has to finally release policies, costings and explain the whole lot in detail.
To say the Libs will get into power no matter what happens over the next year and a half is ignoring this countries political history as well as the histories of the two major parties.

People vote idiots in to the top job..history shows Abbott has an excellent chance of becoming our next PM just as China stops buying our resources and Asia slumps into recession.

The Greens face liquidation at the next election and following DD and the Labor Party will be decapitated in its leadership. The ALP will be finished for up to three decades for implementing the agenda of the big banks and corporations.  Aussies are on the war path - they want to mete out punishment on the Government, High Court action is increasing anyone who suggests that the Greens and ALP do not face immanent political obliteration is being paid to say this.  I believe the Government is locked down in denial and cringing, knowing the day of wrath is approaching, immobilized, paralyzed and incapable of the necessary change and reform Australia needs to rebuild its manufacturing, agriculture and economy.

The irony is they don't get that Nazism was a socialist movement. The left have conveniently tried to was their hands of that part of history.

Nazis was a war on the weak, fat, ugly, Jews, Disabled, gypsies as perceived by ideologues as inferior and unfit for a share in the economy and life - these were to be worked to death or exterminated, it is closely associated with communism and also Market ideology - lets not let them bury the truth behind slogans like socialism - they weren't marching blondes like Lara Bingle or Jennifer Hawkins to the Gas chambers...the Nazis were sacrificing other citizens to give those like them a privileged life.  Nazis were very spiteful elitists - very much like our pollies, corporates and sporting and arts & entertainment elites today... :P :P

Nazism used elements of the far-right racist Völkisch German nationalist movement and the anti-communist Freikorps paramilitary culture which fought against the communists in post-World War I Germany

It would seem the longer the LNP have to wait for an election.... at it's rightful time!, the worse they will appear in the Polls.

7.30  (ABC1) tonight is a significant example.......  where in the past they were plainly anti- carbon tax, and Labor..... tonight they disclosed that a recent Poll --- that EVERYONE counts, for some unknown reasn.. ::)  - shows that NOW 60 % of Aussies believe they are no worse off, or even better off in some cases, than before the tax.
They also interviewed a chap ?? who was asked about the cost of the tax ...ie 23%  --the same old crap of  why should we if no-one else is, ?  - and what possible advantage  does it give us ??etc etc
The talking head. L Sales, or whatever her name is , has been positively rabid in the past....  tried the same old .....   but became I would suggest somewhat chastened by the end.  Boo Hoo
:'( :'( ;D ;D

I was going to post this on the TV thread, but this seemed a better option, as you morons love to quote statistics from 'Polls'.  ;D :D

I'd suggest you check it out.. if you didn't see it. :)

Labor has the same chance of winning the next election as I do of replacing Andrew Strauss as the next captain of England.

I'm a half decent player but I'd rate our chances about the same....

Not necessarily the case.

You saw with the (good) decision of offshoring asylum seekers that when there is consensus - the Greens and their handful of senators become completely and totally irrelevant.

Which is what you would expect from a party that can only convince 1 person in 10 to vote for them.

Balance of power is meaningless if the major parties agree. and here is a clue... 96% of legislation is bipartisan (labor and liberal agree) and surprise, surprise, the greens voted against most of those 96%.  In fact the greens tend to vote ONLY for their own policies which is why they arae so uselss in parliament.

I do get what you are saying.

It's just,... what government could have come out of devastating cyclones in the North, and record flooding over up to 3/4 of the state, without incurring some pretty massive costs. ??  !!

Hmm? I don't deny there were costs... but to believe a super quikkie audit from such a party as Peter Costello stating these dramatic figures, all waste???  ...f-off??    the man has a major vested interest, and it astonishes me that people swallow that  same old garbage over and over.  Do you think the Libs could have done better.??
