That is, they call our rescue authority to claim they are in distress. This forces a response by our Navy and/or Customs vessels in the area to head to them. All the people smuggling boat has to do is then wait and they will be transferred to one of our vessels or they will be followed to Christmas Island because they know that our government will not turn any boats around. It's clear that people smugglers have this government wrapped around their pinky finger - that's how weak Gillard and Bowen are.

If I were the PM, I'd order the Navy to tow the boat back to Indonesian waters and leave them with enough fuel to reach Indonesia but not enough to reach Christmas Island. They'd soon get the message we're not a soft touch, just as they did under Howard. The problem is that the people smugglers know that Australia is lead by a pathetic, weak woman mascarading as the PM.

And what would you then do as your Patrol Boat started to take the boat in tow and the crew/passengers scuttled it?      What would you also do if an Indonesian Navy ship refused to allow your Patrol Boat to enter Indonesian waters?
