Public servants to rally over Queensland Government job cuts

PUBLIC servants plan to step up their industrial action against the Newman Government after it was revealed 2000 jobs would be slashed from Queensland Rail.    :o

A major rally has been planned for outside State Parliament on July 16 to protest job cuts in what is expected to be a precursor to wider industrial action.

The Courier-Mail revealed yesterday the Government was considering slashing 2200 jobs from Queensland Rail, one in five positions at Translink, and 500 jobs were to go at the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.    :(

Similar reductions were being considered in other departments in addition to the about 3000 positions already abolished.

Together Queensland state secretary Alex Scott said the rally would be held after work on July 16, to send "a clear message" to Premier Campbell Newman.    ;)

"This week we've seen the end of permanency in the public sector," said Mr Scott, referring to a directive that allows heads of department to retrench excess staff if they cannot be relocated to another position after four months.

"While these job cuts are out of control, we need to make sure we continue to have a system of frank and fearless advice to government ministers independently of the political government."

Mr Scott said industrial action was likely in late August or September.

Transport Minister Scott Emerson yesterday revealed Queensland Rail executives initially suggested the State Government look at getting rid of train guards.  :(

As reported yesterday, the Government is now targeting the "bloated executive" of Queensland Rail along with hundreds of positions not related to service delivery.

While Mr Emerson would not rule anything out in relation to the jobs of train guards, he said executive managers were told to look "a bit closer to home".

They wasted the great state of Queensland money, by glorifying the unions and the workers of the State.

now Campbell Newman is the one that has to try to fix it and take us back to the great state we once were.

I haven't sacked anyone. I do want to see us not go down the path of greece and other failed states and live within our means. This may seem a totally alien concept to you lefties but this is what normal / good governments do.

Unless these public servants are totally unemployable they should find work easy enough; just like the rest of us have to, when we become unemployed.

An extra tax burden on business so women on up to 150K will not suffer any salary loss to have a kid.

Re-instating the non means testing of the 30% healthcare rebate

The issuing of tax revenue to companies to reduce CO2 output, with no benchmarks of achievement required to qualify or retain said funding.

Maybe you should write what you mean.

All Queensland public servants are paid out of the Queensland budget, have less, pay less; save more. This is how a budget works.

If your glorious labor party didn't go on a mindless spending spree, borrowing millions of dollars and p1ssing it all away, then we would not be having this conversation now would we?

Life and employment is the same for everyone, why do the public servants believe they are deserving of cradle to grave employment at the cost of the taxpayer, when the taxpayer does not have that privilege.


This is the fault of the blight government and NO-ONE else.

It is not blighes fault that newman has decided to sack them. He has choices. He could choose not to fund a new railway for  palmer - that would save a lot wouldn't it? There are other options i am sure rather than putting loads of low paid workers on the dole so you can pay them a couple dollars less (but not stop paying them)

It is not worse for them than it is for you or I, so when I see them crying rivers next time I'm unemployed I'll remember to do the same for them.

Greece's problem is not excess public spending, its its inability to collect enough tax (revenue).   Ditto italy.

Howard would have quite happily run up deficits in the boom times if costello didnt stop him.  Being right wing  does not mean you run surpluses.

You understand first of all that in Australia over more than the last 50 years that more Labor governments have produced a surplus than Liberal?

Second it is these cretinous infrastructure projects which helps to produce the productivity levels leading to the growth which result in a surplus position.

The first EVER surplus in Australian History was delivered by PJ Keating a Labor Treasurer, what happened to the liberals for the 90 odd years before him?

Yet in my area all schools are VERY happy with their allocation, in fact I believe the National figure is a 97% happy, 3% unhappy, about the average in any crowd, there's no pleasing some.

Although Queensland is renowned for its tropical rainforests and golden beaches washed by warm ocean waves, the Bligh government had wanted the state to be a centre of excellence for snow ski-jumping.

Mr Dickson said Labor had approved the development of the 36m high, 10m wide behemoth - complete with hydraulics and purpose-built lift - at the Sleeman Sports Complex, using the centre's new 50m swimming pool as a landing area.

What a load of cobblers. What we need is more migrants because they create jobs. Don't take any notice of the productivity commission because it wouldn't know sh!t from clay. Let's flood the country with job-creating migrants and let's ignore the growing numbers of unemployed or underemployed.

ummm, the water grid in SEQ, billions spent for zero need and then millions spent to not be able to pay our doctors and nurses. We had to get special trainers just to maintain our herd of white elephants.

As for doing all that research, yeah .... that's not going to happen. My care factor is way too low for that.

Just believe that labor were grossly incompetent and totally buggered our state and now Newman has to do the hard yards to get it back in order. Getting slaughtered in the election didn't happen because the were great administrators.
