Abbott 'deceitful' on carbon tax: Combet.    :(

    by: Joe Kelly
    From: The Australian
    June 10, 2012

Greg Combet

Climate Change minister Greg Combet says forecast impact of the carbon tax would be less than expected, because modelling could not replace real world experience.

GREG Combet will hold Tony Abbott to account after the carbon tax implementation, should the Opposition leader's predictions of economic catastrophe not eventuate.   :)

Mr Combet said the average carbon price in the trade exposed emissions intensive sectors of the economy was only $1.30 a tonne, once government assistance had been factored in.

Attacking Mr Abbott's fear campaign against the carbon tax as "gutless" and "deceitful", Mr Combet said his predictions of economic catastrophe would not eventuate.

"I'm looking forward to post July 1," he said. "Because we're going to take it right up to Tony Abbott and hold him to account for every lie and piece of deceit and every bit of misrepresentation he's engaged in."

Mr Combet said that the fundamentals of the economy were strong enough to justify the introduction of a carbon price and that millions of households would be better off under the government's compensation package.
The most influential people in Sport

The introduction of a carbon price was a fundamental "question of belief" for the Labor party, with Mr Combet suggesting the party should not walk away from the reform in opposition.

"You run into problems when you walk away from what you stand for," he said.

Mr Combet acknowledged that the government had a "lot of work to do" in arguing its case for the carbon price before the next election, but expected to win over the electorate through the force of its case.

"We plan on winning the next election," he said. "Argue to the community, tell them the facts, argue what you're standing for and bring them along, explain the values that underpin it, why you're doing it - and you can win support."    :)

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says he's being realistic, not gloomy, in talking down the economy.

This week delivered a trifecta of good economic news: the national accounts showed the economy speeding along at an annual rate of 4.3 per cent; the biggest monthly jump in full-time employment in 18 months; and a 25-basis-point cash rate cut.

But Mr Abbott denies he is talking down the economy unnecessarily.

"I think I've been absolutely realistic,'' Mr Abbott told the Ten Network.

He said the Opposition was right to pan the carbon and mining taxes.

"Australia's relative economic strength owes far more to the reforms of previous government than it does to the spending spree of the current one,'' he said.

Mr Abbott said the Reserve Bank was not super optimistic otherwise it would not have cut the official cash rate.

Combad seems to be shaking in his boots. Why?

63% rejects the carbon tax
57% wants the carbon tax repealed

This means he'll be the fall guy for if/when the ALP loses government.

While he was parachuted into the safe seat of Charleston at 63% - he will be held accountable for the Carbon Tax as will Gillard!!!

Suck that up Combad!!!

The Greens and the ALP will be held to account for 30 years of treason against the people of Australia and selling out our country by stealth to international banks and and world Government.  You are finished in Australia ALP and Greens and so are your policies.  We will hold Abbott to account to repeal the treasonous policies to cede our nation to global Government through climate change and privatization and we will hold him to account to crack down on you.

well the truth of the matter is this:

it doesnt matter what happens because even if NOTHING eventuated, you'd still be relying on Gillard and Co to advertise the message. And have you ever seen a govt that is worse at advertising is successes and policies? they are truly awful at it.

oh i forget. it is you. you believe in democracy when the people's opinion lines up with yours and the rest of the time it is this crap. What longloser can't comprehend is that even if 99% of people believe in a stupid idea, that doesn't make it any less stupid.

Thats the point Tnoy has been running around like a chook with its head cut off squarking about the impact the carbon price will have in true chicken little the sky is falling fashion.

Now that the implimentation is getting close he has changed the story to the Boa Constricter (ho ho ho) He has shown that he does in fact understand that he had been BS ing and that the voters are about to find him out.

The 57% is based on his beliefs which his own minister do not believe nor does he himself, the interest lies in finding what will happen to this support when they find out that the world does not end next month as predicted by Chicken Little Abbnott.

Because as has been discussed - in countless other threads - the carbon tax IS NECESSARY and because removing it WILL DO MORE HARM THAN LEAVING IT IN.

The alcho's in labor are drunk with stupidity.

After the reruns, ask the question. Do you really believe these idiots.

NO! Why is it you righties can't think beyond a thought bubble? It's necessary because Australia gets its income largely from digging up coal and flogging it off overseas.

What happens when other countries move to alternative energies? And make no mistake, they are. What are we going to flog when nobody wants our coal? We'll fast become a third world country that's what. Unless we've get something else up our collective sleeve. We've got money now. We need to use it now to get ourselves in the lead on this.

The carbon tax is NECESSARY because (i) it provides the funds needed for the research and (ii) it tilts the market so as to give incentives for people to move to those technologies when they are developed.

Clear?

the only reason Abbott was pushing so hard for an early election is because he knows that 12 months from now, he will have been proven a liar time and time again ..... as for Mr Gump who likes quoting the % ...what % of the population was opposed to the GST immediately before and after it's introduction? and Howard STILL won the next election ... run forrest run

I read something a while back about the underground water we have. Sometime during howards reign there was a project near alice springs to tap into this water. Apparently the pressure is really high and it can be used as a source of energy. Unfortunately the project was scrapped like most innovative projects.

Also we have a LOT of desert. Why not set up solar panels? Apparently Las Vegas is mostly powered by solar panels. We could do it too. in fact i think i read somewhere that some australians invented some cool new solar panels that are smaller and more powerful which we sold to america. We could use those (buy them back haha).

If we start researching and funding these projects now we might have a chance when the coal industry dies.

why is it stupid?

because 1% believes it's stupid?

facts are facts and you don't have it to back you

therefore your thoughts are just personal bias

Because as has been discussed - in countless other threads - the carbon tax IS NECESSARY and because removing it WILL DO MORE HARM THAN LEAVING IT IN.

Necessary? For what? Lowering GLOBAL temperature?  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Clear?

SOB

the problem is that your argument makes takes profits away from the liberal party funds (mining magnates) therefore the libs will do anything to prevent this ... down go profits, down go political donations .....  Abbotts plan is genius .. he plans on giving our tax money to mining companies, and pretend he's reducing emmissions when in fact all he does is subsidies the mining industry and take funds away from hospitals etc ... why do you think Palmer and Rhinefart love him? .... imagine what they can do with the extra funds... a new private plane, another holiday home etc .. the possibilities are endless they'll put a solar panel on the roof and say its research ....

Not sure if it's the one you mean but Origin Energy has a 50/50 partnership with the US semiconductor manufacturer Micron Technology in a venture called Transform Solar. Transform has patented a new solar cell design developed here in Australia which is supposed to be more efficient.

That's the kind of thing we need. Developing new technologies that can be flogged world-wide. We need to get beyond just digging another hole in the backyard.
