Title: Reconciliation week 2012 Post by The tolerator on May 30th, 2012 at 3:28pm
Yes folks, it's that time of year again! Let us celebrate reconciliation day together!

Sounds wonderful. There's lots to see and do, fun for all the family: http://www.reconciliation.org.au/nrw2012/national-reconciliation-week-2012/what-s-on There does seem to be a section missing though - the section that details the events and efforts that would help aborigines to understand whiteys culture. Surely it can't succeed if only one party is making an effort? |

That's right! The boongs should give us the land, dress in breeches, learn English and God's salvation, and stop spearing our sheep. Give up their white-looking children too. And be good about it.
Sorry, I know. Ancient history. It was more than 30 years ago. And the bastards still won't let up on it. |

It doesn't take much effort - for instance I never knew that hip hop was a part of traditional aboriginal culture until I went onto the reconciliation week website.

Exactly. Rap is white music.

Those suggestions are marvellous, but I don't see how they will help aborigines learn about whiteys culture. I am keen to do my bit for reconciliation though - anyone know where I can get any "aboriginal spices" I could use on my gas BBQ? |

Oh. OK thanks for the invaluable input Pansi. It sure is a shock to find this out, but I thank you for being honest with me. It's never easy learning you are afraid of condiments of any sort, but admitting you have a problem is the first step in overcoming this debilitating condition.
What are you doing to celebrate reconciliation week Pansi? Wanna come to my BBQ? |

I don't see cannibalism on the list Honky. Would you be interested in hosting a workshop on not eating white people? This would make a marvellous addition to the program. |

Thank you for your excellent suggestion. I was thinking of running a workshop named "train station etiquette". Everyone knows it's not that aborigines are criminally inclined, it's just that they don't know white people don't like being assaulted for cigarettes or loose change at train and bus stations. By building awareness of this cultural difference, we can break down the walls that divide us. |

Oh HOORAY ;D ;D ;D ;D WE can all get drunk, rape our Kids, bash our women, drain our petrol tanks to sniff & burn our homes. We will then be compensated of course because we are all indigenous on that day & these things are just not our fault. WE are acting out our pain :( |

Title: Re: Reconciliation week 2012 Post by Karnal on May 30th, 2012 at 4:51pm
How about a women's empowerment forum? You could give a presentation on encouraging one's rapist to practice safe sex.
I do think personal responsibility is a vital indigenous issue, don't you? |

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps you could suggest that they hit up the mining companies instead. Been here 200 years. Invented a mine. |

For what would they "hit up" mining companies for? All they need is their kinship with the land. If you took reconciliation seriously, like I do, your awareness would have been raised to a sufficient level for you to know that. |

I'm sorry, Honky. I really must apologize. I can't believe I said something so insensitive. After all, mining companies are made up of real people with real feelings. Look at all the great work they're doing. That coal took years to make. Been here 50 billion years... I do take reconciliation seriously. I fundamentally believe that these boongs should take things in their stride, forgive and forget, and try to make amends with the real Australians. |

I totally agree with Karnal, the Aboriginals have had long enough to assimilate to our way of life. When in Rome do as the Roman's do. If they don't like how we live they can go back to where they came from. From what I can see they don't even try to be white.

That's right! Oh, we tried. We had a comprehensive program of interbreeding and genetic assimilation. Full-blood to half-caste to quarter-caste to octoroon, etc, etc, etc. In a few generations we wouldn't have had to worry about them. But did they listen? No. They kept going on about their culture. Culture? I know, it's ridiculous. Anyway, these people refused to be reasonable. They even started bleeting on about a stolen generation. We were trying to help them! Honky, I really welcome your attempts to reconcile these people before it's too late. Perhaps you could run a white honky-tonk workshop and stop them listening to that awful rap music. |
