BHP has predicted an end to the boom will be apparent in ten years.

Australia needs an NBN and Mr Abbott knows it!!

Why ask - do politicians ever think beyond the next election?

That is the problem, the media let's us down with it's obsession with the current political cycle. I was listening to Richo and Bolt the other night on 2GB and they were discussing Abbott's policy of turning the boats back to Indonesia. Bolt admitted that the Indonesians wouldn't cop this and that it would be a diplomatic impossibility. However, he didn't think Abbott should level with the Australian people before the election because it would make Abbott appear weak. When the commentariat starts praising bad policy and duplicitous posturing for it's political efficacy, we really have a problem.

The NBN will make billionaires, you won't be one of them because you lack an imagination. I'd share some of my own ideas but they haven't been copyrighted.  ;)

Wot's up....the TRUTH hurt huh....Open both your eyes Lefty........The last time Labor got 10 years in power they turned us into a bankrupt Banana Republic (Keating told us so)

Quote:
If this Government cannot get the adjustment, get manufacturing going again, and keep moderate wage outcomes and a sensible economic policy, then Australia is basically done for. We will end up being a third rate economy... a banana republic.
Paul (Grim Reaper) Keating Speaking to John Laws on Radio 2UE, May 14, 1986.

You're the one who shoulda gone to specsavers for your "shortsightedness" comrade.... >:(

I think YOU are the one with your eyes tight shut. The Hawke government took office in 1983. So after THREE years (not ten) Keating made his famous "banana republic" comments.

Incidentally I heard at the time that John Laws had to be taken out and have explained to him the significance of what had just transpired. But that's by the by.

Labor was in office until 1996 - another 10 years after the banana republic statement, Labor had done all the things Keating had demanded. The Labor government DID get "get manufacturing going again, and keep moderate wage outcomes and a sensible economic policy" ... and so we did NOT become a banana republic.

Of course, you being a righty would have trouble understanding any of this. You couldn't even get the first word into your head - "IF".  ::)

so what, neither Hawke nor Keating changed their tack and with their numerous  consecutive ALP budget deficits and tens of billions of dollars in public debt Australia was well on its way to Banana land until the Howard Govt turned it all around.

Only to have it killed off by Rudd & Gillard taxathons and inflexible IR policies.

These days it's not a banana republic but a European quasi-socialist welfare state Labor are hell bent in turning us into.... ;D

Of course, you being a Pinko would have trouble understanding any of this.... ;D

Alright - ten years from now, where does Labor find the money to fund the cash handouts it's giving away from the mining tax? That's assuming Labor doesn't completely kill off mining in this country before then with the carbon and mining taxes.

Abbott will go the way of Cameron when his policies send this country spiralling into recession after recession.
Lets face it..Abbott will last as long as Rudd if he ever becomes PM
