David was just fantastic, he seemed to breath the part, but for me the doctor that brought me to the following was Jon Pertwee.

David was the best out of them three.. Matt Smith just ruined it, cant even be bothered watching it with him in it

For me Jon Pertwee was the Doctor.

Tom Baker became the Doctor. (maybe best)

Christopher Eccleston & David Tennant were both excellent.

William Hartnell was the Doctor when I first started watching it.

Me too but I never really got any continuity at that time just an occasional episode.

Your age is showing.

Actually my family didnt have a TV until I was 12. I dont remember who the doctor was when I started watching but I expect it was pertwee. Why else would he be my favorite?

Have you seen the movies? Or the original dr who episode? With the granddaughter and the basement? He wasnt even from gallifrey!

The first doctor i saw was Patrick Troughton, it was a video at a friends place. He was an excellent doctor and set the scene for Jon Pertwee. Tom was Good and i watched him with joy but Smith is plain ordinary.

One of my favourite episodes was one about jumping spiders in a  cave or tunnel. They were so cool. Jumping up @ you just like spiders dont. Hahahaha. Another one was where there were some monsters made out of glad wrap on a hanger they someone off stage would shake now and then to make it rustle. the monsters are better nowadays but I reckon they kept the plots just as good. Storyline is what makes dr who.

I always thought the cheap and nasty monsters made the show. I had a certain honesty about it.

Tom Baker was popular because he seemed more of a Doctor than an Englishman. Davidson was ok, but again English with a cup of tea and cricket.

Personally I would like to see a re-incarnation of the Doctor as a tall raven-haired beauty similar to Cher, Xena, etc. That would bugger the Master over for sure!! ;D

Wonder if Tom Baker is still just wandering through all the Taverns rooting himself silly with all the female fans?

There was a takeoff of dr who done by a uni in england that had joanna lumley as a doctor as well as rowan atkinson. It was called "The curse of the Fatal Death" and was a proper episode length.

As for tom baker there was an aussie guy lived int eh blue mountains that looked like him. He looked so much like him that he started getting around with a scarf like toms. when he died there was some kind of tribute in the paper about him and his likeness to tom baker.

Undecided. Then again, I've only watched 1/2 of the first episode on iview.

Off the cuff... it is bang on trend for Dr Who V.02

I hate Matt Smith with a passion and like there's no tomorrow. I really loathe the new angle on Doctor Who, in which it's now a show for hyperactive six year olds with the attention span of a gnat. >:( No good writing or acting, just 'comedy' schtick and hack showrunning.

I'm a big Peter Davison fan, for the record! I grew up watching him, you see. :D Adric's crap, though. :-[

The new dr who seems to be the same kind of writing as the old dr who IMO. Its just that they have better graphics and monsters now. Its always been quite comedic too. Still I liked tom baker the best myself.

I've got the DVDs of most of the Hartnell episodes and he's pretty good in the role.  With a lesser performance in the lead role, the show probably wouldn't have got past the first series.  What does let the Hartnell episodes down today (aside from being black and white, which puts some people off for some strange reason) is the production values, as it was done on a very limited budget - probably the most obvious example being The Edge of Destruction.
