Saudi Arabia Plan $109 Billion Solar Energy Project to Reduce Oil Consumption

http://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/Saudi-Arabia-Plan-109-Billion-Solar-Energy-Project-to-Reduce-Oil-Consumption.html

Why can't we do just as well in Australia because we have the technology?

Could be something to do with the size.

Saudi Arabia has an area of approximately 2,250,000 km2 and it has an estimated population of 27 million

The total area of Australia is 7,686,850 km2 with a population of around 22,000,000

We can - or at least we should.

I don't understand your point.

We should & we should also be selling into that deal.
We should be supplying the technology.

I think the Chinese have more expertise in the technology than Australia has.

Good Point- perhaps it is time Australia stretched it's wings in the name of humanity and embraced some sort of cooperative approach!

Obviously, but it would be well within our interests to stretch our selves in this direction given our natural advantages: we are so ripe TO CONSTANTLY EXPERIMENT!!

I like this bit from the first post link-

Quote:
As the largest oil producer in the world it has no fear of running out

Muslims are Gods chosen people, it was Allah who gve the Saudis the oil and he will make sure it never runs out.

The Saudis are sitting on a sea of oil-

Women are not allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia it is a religious thing-

This must be a world's first, finally some innovation from islamic countries-

The world is turning: planes use fossil fuels and that is why the 9-11 attacks were so symbolic!

My point is quite basic -
we should be doing better than towel heads with technology.
Even camel riders are beating us.

We certainly should be doing better. But while the country is absorbed by it's own selfish greed nothing will come of anything. We will simply find ourselves behind the eight ball as per the normal.

Yes - people here have always been more concerned with
property ponzi schemes rather than technology.

Why can't we do just as well in Australia because we have the technology?

That is really surprising, because Saudi Arabia is one of the largest oil producers in the world.
As far as Australia is concerned, it will not even consider to replace the big polluters using brown coal for electricity generation with gas powered power stations, yet huge amount of gas is exported.
Read recently that the Loyang power station will still be one of the cheapest electricity producers, despite the carbon tax.
Some of the coal they use there looks more like mud and dirt; and I,ve seen it with my own eyes, because my nephew worked there as the operator.

In a way you are right, but the biggest problem in Australia, is, there are some very good ideas, but Australia is very badly governed.
