I got a virus in an email attachment the other week. It was quite interesting to open it up with gedit and see what makes it work. Just as well I use Linux.

If you get an app that you cannot uninstall that even the best uninstallers cannot shift then download the freebie UNLOCKER. After installation, right click the offending app in windows explorer and select unlocker (with a wand icon- not the other one) This  unlocks the attributes. THEN right click again and select unlocker and you get the option of deleting it. Works every time. Atheist bless unlocker!  ::)

If you can't get rid of the malware, just check out one of the reputable anti-virus companies' websites for information on whatever the malware/virus/trojan is called.  Most of them have pretty comprehensive instructions on how to remove the problem manually, although sometimes it involves modifying the registry - if it does, you want to back the registry up first, in case something goes wrong.

IF anyone ever has an issue with malware, then Malwarebytes, anti-malware program is free, and very good.

If you run Avast free virus protection, and malwarebyes, you are 99% good to go, in my experience.
FREE software in a lot of cases is significantly better than stuff people try and charge you for.

I use MalwareBytes, in conjunction with Avira AntiVir free version.

Both work very well.

I tried avast out. It kept putting big advertisements in the middle of my screen and annoying me.

Avira pops one up whenever it updates.

But it only takes one click to get rid of it, and I feel that it's a small
price to pay for such a good piece of FREE software.

I can, and do, live with it. Have done for the last six years or so.

Put your hand in your wallet and buy a decent internet security program.

My brother uses Trend Security, and swears by it.

His wife uses Norton 360, and also swears by it.

Both are full, legal retail licences.

Me, I'm a tight-ass. As part of my IT training, I had to
d/l, test and review (in writing) three free AV programs.

Can't remember what the other two were now, but Avira
won hands-down, and I was so impressed with it that I've
been using it ever since.

It's never let me down (yet).

A new threat? No one is safe from the Flame virus

US President Barack Obama was behind the Stuxnet cyber attack on Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities last year.

Obama accelerated the attacks - codenamed "Olympic Games" - that began during the Bush administration, even after the Stuxnet virus escaped the plant and caused cyber destruction around the world, the New York Times reported.

The Iranian plant was hit with a series of attacks and during the weeks that followed up to 1000 of the 5000 centrifuges Iran had been using to purify uranium were taken out.

After it hit Iran's facilities, the virus leaked and wreaked havoc on hundreds of thousands of computers around the world, including Australia.

Obama asked whether the US should "shut this thing down" during a meeting with the CIA director, Leon E Panetta, and Vice President Joe Biden, but despite the minimal damage to Iran's plants and the huge collateral damage elsewhere, it was decided the attacks should continue.

The attempt was reportedly the first time the US has used cyberweapons instead of military ones to take out infrastructure that allowed countries to wage war.

Obama was only revealed to be the source of the virus after unnamed former US, Israeli and European officials involved in the program came forward.

The cyber attacks remain highly classified.

Forensic investigators from businesses, including anti-virus company Symantec, were involved in dissecting the virus which was 50 times the size of a typical "worm" computer virus. They were unable to determine the source.

Meanwhile, cyber virus experts continue to investigate the origins of another virus with similar traits to Stuxnet, known as "Flame".

Flame was also launched against Iranian officials and then spread around the world. It was only discovered by anti-virus company, Kaspersky Labs, just last week even though it had been mining Middle East government systems for up to five years.

"Flame" is considered the world's most malevolent virus to date.
