That's my favourite version. The silence of the scream is emphasised by the figure leaning over the railing; he looks relaxed, not like he heard his friend screaming. In the other versions the two distant figures are upright, I think.
Wouldn't pay $119mil for it though. |

The thing is yeah its a good painting i guess it has atmosphere. Its not worth millions imo. Ive have seen much better painting go for like 50 bucks cause they werent done by a famous person. It is possible that his 10 year old did it too. Its not THAT good. I reckon the atmosphere in it was fluked. Its never cool to say these things about famous "art" though is it.

I saw a painting of a tractor once. Not sure if I liked it.

I think that's harsh Annie. While the composition and conceptualising are way beyond a kid; I reckon Munch would scream a lot louder at that price tag. I myself have a matched pair of oil paintings. One of a young woman sitting forlornly in a chair and the other an old lady in the same chair. If I had the courage of my convictions I wouldn't part with them at any price, but I paid a dollar each for them in an op shop because they didn't like them - 'too depressing'. What I paid is probably not far off their worth. They're signed but I've found nobody who recognises the artist. Of course monetary value bears no relationship to 'real' value in anything. Easiest money I ever made was working as a real estate agent. But I didn't/couldn't stick at it for more than a year. I felt like a conman. |

I love the scream.
I would probably go $250.00 for it. |

I can relate to that :D but how much would we pay if we had a few hundred million collecting dust I wonder? I'd like to think I'd collect contermporary work I guess. |

"The packed sales room erupted into applause and cheering when the hammer went down."
How much was paid for that? There were a lot of people, maybe 1/2 million each? |

I'd preferr the original of Gary Larson's weiner dog version, The Howl. (A wonder Ginsberg didn't sue him.)

Have you ever painted? Not that it matters. You insult because I dont like as much something that you like. I like it kinda but I dont know if I want it on my wall. My dad had a copy on his wall. Just because its famous doesnt mean its good. Everyone likes different things in art. SOB |

Yes, you're right. That was uncalled for.
Forgive me? |

Title: Re: Crazy Art People Post by chimera on May 4th, 2012 at 10:50am
Munch had anxiety syndrome and his sister had depression as a mental patient. The price is consistent with that provenance.

We are cool mate. I actually agree with you mostly (not entirely) on other things. There was another painting on my dads wall that i did like. I tried to google it but since I dont remember the name of it I cant find it. It was of a scene with a couple women in hats - I think it was a picnic. It was another famous painting. SOB |

Here is another one that was on my dads wall though that I would look @ for ages when I was young. Reminds me (now) of the place we went for my stepmothers wake. SOB |

That trumpet player would be really annoying in a park situation like that. The only thing worse would be if he was playing the bagpipes. Then again, it could be a bong and pot was yet to be made illegal.
The spooky monkey is just weird. |

My great grandfather had Tom Roberts paint 4 family portraits. When my father took one to NSW Art Gallery for re-touching repairs, they pinched it with its heavy gilt frame, and gave us a cheap copy back. Good week's work eh.
