It's time to pay the price, says Premier over fine increases

A number of undisclosed fines and penalties will be increased as the state government puts the squeeze on Victorians in an effort to balance the books for Tuesday's budget.   :(

Premier Ted Baillieu today confirmed that fines would rise but would not elaborate on which penalties would be affected.

However traffic fines, public transport offences and penalties for failing to register pets are among those reportedly set to increase.   :(


"We have said that fines will be increased but the detail of that I'm going to leave to the budget," Mr Baillieu said.

Mr Baillieu also denied the move amounted to an additional cost of living pressure.

"Being fined is not a cost of living, it's a penalty. If you don't commit the offence you don't pay the fine," he said.

"We have to address a number of challenges and we believe there is room to increase those penalty units and that's what will be happening."   :(

Good one Mr Baillieu, you have already put car registration up.  Now increases in fines and penalties.  Vote liberal - the government that cares for people.   :(
