Foreign Minister Bob Carr has dismissed the Peter Slipper scandal as "a temporary federal issue" that is of no interest internationally.

Senator Carr is in the US this week to meet with officials from the Obama administration, as well as senior politicians.

He met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday.

Senator Carr said the current scandal surrounding the former Liberal turned independent MP did not affect talks with US officials.

"No one is remotely interested in that here in the United States," Mr Carr told ABC Television on Wednesday.

He predicted it would be business as usual for the federal government, once the scandal died down.

"This government, I predict, will continue to get its legislation through ... and beyond these temporary federal issues of the day in Canberra, we want to see the big picture, and the big work being done for the future of this nation."

Mr Slipper stood aside as Speaker at the weekend, pending a possible criminal investigation into allegations he misused taxpayer-funded Cabcharge vouchers.

I dont think its muckraking.. if you are talking about that then take a look at what they have printed about Ashbys past...and he is a victim here..

when you put yourself in high places.. then expect the worst when you dont play by the rules..

all I know is if I had a member of my family that was accused of the things this person is accused of.. I would be devastated..

untrustworthy and intimidating using his position to threaten...not nice at all.. and to think hands in the till doesnt matter on top of that.. makes me cringe even more.

I bet if I asked 10 people here in Australia what they think about the Slipper affair, I'd get blank looks, just like when I mentioned the NBN in a packed room. The N what they said. he has been caught stealing money. that concerns me just as it does with Thomson. But labor supporters seem to have a level of integrity and principle so low that ANY crime is ok as long as it supports your political beliefs. Do you wonder why we think labor supporters are such low-lifes? Coz we cant find one that will stand up and say something is WRONG ehn it is not in their political interests to do so. Do ANY of you know what a 'principle' is?

Funny thing to say. Business as usual for this government IS scandal. Every day another lie, another scandal, another cover-up.

Carr may think of himself as "above" it all, but his party is as low as a snake's belly...and constantly proves this fact. Carr was instrumental in bringing down NSW when he was Premier and left like a rat from a sinking ship when he knew the writing was on the wall...and once all the money had been spent. That man may be a clever orator and writer and lover of history....but it was he who threw NSW to the wolves and many of us have long memories. Two weeks notice is all he gave....what a hero....Then went to work for Macquarie Bank. NSW has struggled ever since. It was Carr who brought this great State undone....He is not a man to look up to, for all his "superior" remarks. His "history" in this state will be remembered and his party will pay at the next Federal Election.
